Funny! This is a postproduction from Alan Douglas! Jimi never recorded this piece in this kind! Douglas put serveral original recordings/outtakes and cutted it together to one piece. He added some studio cats of the scene, you can hear them playing drums, bass and the second guitar, which wasnt Jimi.But the feeling is quite nice.
Why was this album so overlooked? Midnight Lightning raw, live and in the studio. Fantastic recording! I understand that it’s overdubbed and postmortem. But great Players.

Searched for years for the M.L. version of het Gypsy Boy. Finally spent like $30 to get Midnight Lightning on CD. Now it is again available on YT. Get it while you can, before ''Janie'' and her lawyers take it down!.

Probably not this particular version. When people mention Machine Gun, they're usually referring to the legendary New Year's 1970 performance at the Filmore East.
Allen Douglas did a fantastic job with Crash Landing, Midnight lightning and Nine to the universe, suppressing this material did Hendrix fans a huge disservice, these three albums should be re-released and celebrated
Nine to the Universe is TOO significant (Hendrix pioneering some of the first Fusion) to be kept from us. One day Jamie ''Hendrix'' and her ''estate'' will get out of the way and it will again be available. I loved the Hey Gypsy Boy version on Midnight Lightning and ALL of the Douglas produced albums were important (esp.at that point in time, when we were starving for Hendrix material), but yeah, Nine to the Universe is (almost certainly) NOT manipulated and must be made available. I had it on vinyl within a couple weeks of its release (about '79, IIRC).
Reminds me of opening nights laying in weeds & mud in frequent rainstorms, trying to sleep and not drown😢all the while hoping Cha r less didn't sneak in and give an explosive wake up call. This song always got my blood all jacked up& Gung ho like a good Marine should be . Then Into a fire fight. Just trying,almost competing,who coul kill the most bodies.old men & women , children, anyone.then return to my camp,shower,over and over,but guilt doesn't wash off.then lay in my bunk,listening to this song,over& over,with my machine gun pointed down my throat, crying me heart,praying for 😢strength not to pull the trigger. Grew up thinking he was going to go and was ready to play GI Joe in real life. He was at Camp Lejeune and ultimately succumbed to the water there. Some gave all, all gave some. I saulte you sir. It was an Alan Douglas money project. He actually said I have guitarist you couldn’t tell from Jimi. But Midnight Lightning. And Crash Landing gave birth to great tunes such as Somewhere. Titled Somewhere over the rainbow on Crash Landing. Thay coulda just released original recording in the first place. Woulda been so much better!
