I'd love to see more "discoveries" of older or more obscure games, like Heavy Metal Thunder! I'd never heard of it, and now I'm a little obsessed with the video clips I'm finding, not to mention the soundtrack. More cool finds like this, preferably with a little historical context to go along with it, would be most welcome follow-ups to the "News" section. Some fun water-cooler conversation fodder, for sure.

6:30 Sony confirmed there is an internal drive support still "Thankfully, as IGN reports, Sony confirmed it managed to retain the option to upgrade the available internal storage in the new design. At the same time, the amount of storage the PS5 Slim ships with has been increased from the 825GB found in the original consoles to 1TB. With that change, it means you could potentially upgrade the smaller console to have a maximum of 9TB of storage space available."
I still wish the internal ssd was replaceable like series x. Or the release a firmware update in the future that the OS can be installed on the slotted m.2. I know it'll take a long time, but those soldered drives aren't going to last forever
@@EhEhEhEINSTEIN The PS5 has been out for 3 years and I never heard of that issue . The empty ssd slot takes 10 min to install and supports 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and 8TB . I just load 6 games and delete and reinstall after that . I have fast internet and can reinstall a digital game from PS Store in 10 mins. Let PS store save my games I'm not buying a extra $200 ssd card I,m buying more games instead

@Crashed131963 I'm the exact opposite. I don't have home wifi so I don't like to delete games. I never liked deleting them when I had home wifi either. And if you drive breaks and you don't use cloud storage, or if it is no longer supported for legacy systems then thats a problem. And of digital stores for old games are closed then thats another problem if you can't re-download those games similar to Wii eshop games
Took my little daughter to GameStop and we played the first level together. It was her first time playing a Mario game so it was priceless. I’ll be picking the game up when it’s released.

So glad John mentioned The Warriors. It's something of a hidden gem of its time. The gameplay is absolutely brilliant and it combines that sort of open-world idea from the GTAs of the time with a solid 3D beat'em up style of gameplay. The story itself is super well-done. It serves as both a prequel and an adaptation of the movie, as the story starts quite some time before the start of the movie's events and even shows how the Warriors gang started and such. It eventually catches up to the movie's events and you get to play through all that crazy running from all the gangs of NYC through the night. It had a free battle mode that was pure chaos and hilarity (especially the levels that took place on rooftops!) and also a secret side-scroller mode that was quite funny (if a bit difficult).
Jon, you never need to apologize for talking about what you love. Your reviews and analysis of crazy 90’s Japanese games are a large part of why I subscribe to DF Retro. ❤ Man, I really miss those innovative Square days with games like Vagrant Story and Einhänder.
I think he might've just felt sorry for rambling for an extensive time in a compiled discussion session instead of a dedicated time for his Japanese game nostalgia. It's like you're in a work meeting, and in the middle of it, your co-worker started going into fine-details of a work problem they had recently and the entire team is waiting for him to finish. It's work related for sure but most of the time the boss would step in and say something like "let's set up a separate meeting for that". I love John's passion and love for games and enjoy his great knowledge and experience of the game history. Just wanted to share another perspective of this though. :)
@@Chasm9 I remember having a great time on a 6800 GT OC'ed to around Ultra levels. That being said back then I wasn't as demanding when it comes to the framerate and was probably playing at 1024*768 or so without AA (it didn't do much against shimmering and crawling anyways...)... 🤪
@@Gaboou yeah, back when AA cost 10-50% of performance. But that's MSAA. I actually googled the bench results and it really was like that - CoR EfBB was crazy demanding game. When 7800 GTX in Doom 3 got 110+ fps, in CoR it barely got 60 fps in 1280x1024 maxed out. The results show that 2x of them in SLI were necessary if you wanted to play with everything tweaked to the max. 😅 It was in the category with Quake 4 and F.E.A.R, Far Cry as one of the most demanding games of 2004-2005. You must've tweaked the settings if you got a playable frame rate with 6800GT. But anyway.... those were fun times, indeed.
@@Chasm9 Yeah, those were the days... 🥲 Back then I was convinced that 24 FPS was enough, hahaha - so that might explain it... 😂 My friend with a measly Radeon 9600 SE or so (with just a 64-bit wide memory bus, IIRC) was barely able to play the game at all though... 😵 Oh, and I also wasn't using the soft shadows, even though they were gorgeous - they were just too demanding!!! 😭
34:27 60 was the initial goal they just fell short since they even printed 60 frames on the physical copies that they needed to put stickers over at retail saying it was 30.
The thing with ReBAR on/off is that it is doing more than just that. From what I understand, it also moves parts of the memory management from the GPU driver to WDDM. And in many cases Nvidia's "legacy code" is simply faster than the one in the windows video memory manager. In the future with WDDM/DX12U getting additional features that only work with ReBAR activated, this will probably change.
9:00 Regarding the longevity question, PS3 Super Slim had a function to transfer its OS from the internal memory to user replaceable hard rive. That would be a much better solution than havingto throw away 1TB Gen 4 SSD to be able to replace and expand storage.
As a multiplatform player, this is how I prioritize what platform I buy a game on: • Xbox is my default. • PC I use for any exclusive it gets that I like, as well as for 3rd party games Sony blocked from Microsoft. (And also for my most favorite games that I want to just play again as well.) • PlayStation is for Sony exclusives. • And Nintendo Switch is for, primarily, PlatinumGames Bayonetta 1&2 and Astral Chain.
Count me in for the “super hyped for RoboCop: Rogue City” club. Poor Robo hasn’t had a good game in 30 years and since the first RoboCop is my favorite film, I’m super excited for the game. I’ve got it pre-ordered for my PS5. The Devs did say on Twitter that they focused on the PC demo because of a Steam event that was happening around that time and that they could either do a console demo, or they could tighten up the game and continue to work on bug fixes before release. Personally, I’m glad they made the latter choice. I was going to get the game regardless, and the better it is before release, the happier I’ll be.
And hopefully dbrand comes to the rescue once again to deuglify it lol. Their plates for PS5 don't make it look like a mid tower PC next to my Xbox and actual mid tower PC but they do enhance it's visual appeal
I expect Redfall will just be left at this point. My guess would be they essentially had to do the 60FPS update since it was on the box. Otherwise they might get sued. Probably some token support, but since it ISN’T actually a live service game, there’s just not the chance for them to squeeze more money out of it. This is just an attempt to garner a little ❤goodwill back before their next project
I played the Robocop demo on a R5 3600 and a 3060ti and it ran pretty well at 1080p max detail, apart from a couple of traversal stutters. It really feels like a remake of 20 year old game that doesn't exists, in a good way.
Just done the Robocop demo on a GTX 1070 ti (and intel 4770K) in 1080P and it runs very well with most settings on high and some on epic. Obviously don't have any fancy anti-aliasing option but TAA does his job well enough. Pleasantly surprised that an Unreal 5 title runs this well on my aging (aged?) setup.
The 1070ti is surprisingly powerful. A lot more powerful than the vast majority of systems keep in mind the average steam gamer has a 1650 or 1650 super so wayyyy weaker. Honestly except for the most demanding games I’d expect any triple a pc game to run at 50-60 maybe more fps 1080p low some medium no upscalling. And like fsr 2.0 1440p balanced or performance medium.
@@SimonVaIe tbf the 1650 and 1060 still sit on place 2 and 3 of the steam hw survey respectively. the 3060 in place 1 also isn't much stronger in rasterized performance compared to a 1070Ti which is closer to a 1080 than a 1070 non Ti.
My favorite surprisingly great movie tie in game is the Peter Jackson King Kong game. The FPS sections are really, really tense, almost every enemy feels like a huge threat and your ammo is incredibly limited, more often then not you have to rely on spears, setting traps, or getting the creatures to eat and prey on one another. The 3d action sections where you play as kong don't leave as much of an impression, but are still cool.

The communications director Thomas Puha at the studio speaking with IGN has explained some of the issues they have had developing Alan Wake 2 for the Xbox Series S. "Series S, the CPU is pretty much the same as on Series X,” Puha said. "But the GPU is an issue. It really is. And then, having less memory is a pretty big problem. And we often get, ‘okay, you make PC games, surely you know how to scale.’ Well, memory is not a problem on PC. It really isn’t. And that’s one of the struggles when you talk about resolution and framerate. It’s just not enough to drop the resolution heavily. That’s what we’re doing on the S and we’re really, really working hard to make sure the visual quality still holds up. People accept that on a weaker PC the visuals are not going to be as good and your framerate’s not going to be as good. There’s a massive difference on Series S and Series X GPU. And sure, people can mention this game did this so well and all that, and every game is different, and every developer is different. But you can’t have the best of both worlds. You gotta choose where you’re gonna focus. The Series S is $250 and X and PS5 are $500-600. Obviously there’s a massive difference between the power you are getting, right? It’s a lot easier to scale on the PC because of memory, and it’s not like there’s one super PC and one weaker PC. There are like 300 PC configurations in-between, and trust me that’s a massive struggle, but we’ve shipped a lot of PC games so we’re a bit better about that. We’ve really worked hard on getting S to run at a solid 30 and tried to maintain a good visual quality. But if you want to see the game at its best in full next-gen glory, it’s going to be on the machines that have the hardware grunt to enable that." Alan Wake 2 on Series S has only 30fps mode meanwhile Series X and PS5 have 60fps mode. Xbox Series Potato, the generation backholder.
At the end of the day, we have to keep in mind that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be less powerful than the Xbox Series S. I'm sure Nintendo's console will get a version of all future and current games on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles regardless of the lower specs.
@@QuietRiot-ci5duthis tells me you don't play the switch versions a lot. Those ports have been so barebones that it's an insult to the PS5/ Series X version costing the same as the Nintendo version.
The original Star Wars arcade with wireframe vector graphics and the full sit-in cabinet is my favorite film to game adaptation. The game graphics and music were amazing for the time and still great today!🤩

Even if Redfall was 100% technically flawless, with 120FPS and excellent ray tracing... it still would just be a generic and shallow online looter shooter. That's the core problem, the whole design and structure of the game. The technical flaws was just the icing on the top.
Glad to hear the CPU issue is more a software/development side of things & not an indication we all need to the best CPU's to push through crappy performance. Act 3 of Baldur's Gate has been such a thorn in my side that is had me contemplating this exact issue. I know there's still a lot that can be done to fix it from the devs, but it's been months at this point & I'm tired of waiting! 😅
Looking at the prices of the consoles and games on them, I am glad Valve are a private company, there's not investors turning the company inside outside making a horrific monster
I will not accept this PS5 chassis slander. May be a controversial opinion but I think it's one of the best looking console designs to date. To me it's only second to the Xbox 360 Slim edition (the black one from 2010 or so).

Thank god for that. I want an easy and affordable way to get more performance than Series X and PS5 but without the issues that so many current PC ports seem to have.
@@Feanaro5503 possibly, i doubt they would sell the ps5pro higher than 700usd. It would be great if it would come with the disc drive and the vertical stand, as that would be an extra 100usd buying separately.
The slim was for sure real, makes all sense, same performance and less power consumption and small size console. Now the PRO changes everything for developers
I would love to see the Tony Hawks 3&4 remaster get made. They already had an amazing engine with the 1&2 remasters. We could probably see results in 2-3 years if Microsoft found the Vicarious Visions team and extracted them from Blizzard. That could also end in the Tony Hawks Underground 1&2 remasters and then once they’ve had experience porting all the good games, they could possibly make a reboot of the series.
That BF 2042 example just says to me that digital games are just too effin expensive outside the launch window. Its the same on Steam. I've got 5-6 y/o old games on my wishlist that never go on sale and are like 60 euros still. That's just crazy to me. You almost never had that during the 360 or PS2 era unless it was some super low print RPG.
PS2 games would drop to a solid £20 after a year for the PS2 Essentials or whatever it was called back then, that's why the PS2 was Sony finest hour personally. Great games, a huge variety of genres and pricing was spot on £40 new within 8 months to a year down to £20-25.
@@dnakatomiuk yep, and you would see them at clearance bins for like 10 euros after 2-3 years. That's just not happening in the digital space. For example: Dirt 5, 3 year old, 55 euros. Dragon Age II, 12 year old game, 30 euros. FFXV, 7 year old game, 35 euros. Like come on dude. The base price for these should be cut by 50% and then 50% during sales.
Good catch up. Interested in Robocop and I had forgotten about the Demo, it's still up on Steam so grabbing now. Mario Wonder. Fully agree with John. Dislike the design and odd feeling of controlling Mario in the previous 2D games with the "New" tag in the title. Very much have my eye on Wonder and finally I can blow dust off my Switch as was underwhelmed by Tears Of The Kingdom. Currently,really enjoying Lords Of The Fallen. It's running well for me and looks outstanding, especially the amount of environmental detail and texture work..but the game feels great to play.. I did hear Alex use a 4080/4090 comparison in terms of why buy the 80 when you get the full deal for a few pounds more.. When I got my 4080 it was £1000, the 4090 was £1800 and I would need to get a higher wattage Power Supply. Close to £2000 Vs £1000...and to be fair, the 4080 has been amazing for me. Exceeded my expectations.
Is a 30 percent reduction in size and approximately 20 percent reduction in weight not slim? That's a similar reduction to the PS3 slim. Of course it's still a big boy, but a less big boy.

Here in USA, it is reported that Best Buy is doing away with DVD and Blu-ray discs. Could be the start of the death of video games discs...I hope you guys talk about this or mention it on the next DF weekly.
The range of game discs my local Best buy has is weird. New PS5 releases have been hard to find (I never saw RE4 or FF16), but they have a bunch of PS4 games still on shelves.

The stand is basically reverting to the state of the PS4 and earlier Sony consoles, which they often displayed vertically in ads, but didnt include the stand to do so, and it was an extra. A bit weird, but we were fine with it for decades. The new stand looks like a huge improvement too, and apparently it will work with the old models, so i personally will grab one probably, as the original stand is..., not amazing.
So im 41 and original RoboCop is imo one of the best 80s movie ever.. so I played the RoboCop demo and when u enter the highrise building and the theme song kicked in it honestly gave me goosebumps.. i cant wait to play the full game
Nobody ever brings up playing 4k UHD movies when it comes to discussing the disc drive. Am I the only person who wanted the disc version for this feature? The benefit of cheap games is a plus to me; honestly hadn't really considered that until they discussed it 15 minutes in.

ROBOCOP maybe the best movie of all time. This might be the first time i per-order a game and i got to get Alex Murphy Edition, just for the blue armor. Dam they got me! But it is a shame the Alex Murphy Edition doesn't come with the 6000 SUX, with reclining leather seats, cruise control, a Blaupunkt and gets really shitty mileage. I hear that car goes really fast. I guess we can't have it all.
I expanded the storage of my console as soon as I got it, and I install everything to the second drive, which I hope will help the stock SSD last longer. Just the OS is running off it.

Everyone is talking about the digital PS5 can be upgraded to include the disc drive. To me the bigger impact is, that the disc drive is now easy replaceable. One of the biggest pain points of old console hardware was always the disc drive. Now looking in the future, it will be easily replaceable by the average joe.
You are being a bit facetious comparing the sale price of items on physical to their non-sale price on digital. 2042 hasn't gotten down to $7, but it has gotten down to $18 when on sale on XBN. The digital version of Ass Creed: Odyssey is regularly on sale for $12 for the vanilla game or $20 for the version with all the DLC. That's not to say there are some publishers, like Bandai Namco, where that issue does come up as they very often do not drop the digital MSRP when the physical MSRP drops. Like Dark Souls 3: Fires Faded edition (includes DLC) has had an MSRP of $20 for a long time, but the equivalent Dark Souls 3 Deluxe MSRP is still $85 on digital. So when that version is on sale, it often isn't as cheap as the normal cost of the physical edition. Then there is also the issue of Game Pass and PS+ Extra, you may be able to play some of those games (like Ass Creed: Odyssey which is currently a part of PS+ Extra) without needing to purchase a disc or physical copy. I'm sure there are many gamers in which they could purchase a digital console, PS+ Extra, purchase a few of their multiplayer mainstays digitally, and then be happy with what's available on extra/premium, particularly if they did not own a PS4.
I played the RoboCop demo on an i7 and 3080 and it ran smooth as butter. Great demo and I hope the full release holds up. And speaking of the game boy RoboCop game, if you never heard it, the menu screen song slaps.

Redfall launched with an UE4 version that supports dynamic TAAU, TSR and FSR 2.2. Yet it took them 5 months to bring 60 fps to consoles. Just 2 consoles, not even 3. Good times.
14:00 the biggest problem with this argument about the price,is that it's not true outside the Anglosphere/Europe/Japan market. besides some very successful AAA titles most games are next to impossible to find, games older than 5 years are basically nonexistent.
I bought a PS5 disk edition, almost every dame I've purchased has been physical editions through Facebook marketplace. I've already paid for the upcharge multiple times over. Not to even mention deals from other retailers or things like gamefly
I have a 13th gen intel laptop i9 and can‘t deactivate the e-cores on a 4400€ machine, it‘s so frustrating. I really feel the stuttering quite frequently even though I increased the powerlimit and undervolted the cpu. The cpu is constantly power limited. The temperatures are fine but my i9-13950hx or whatever (24c, 16 of which are e-cores), rtx 4080(mobile) machine runs less smooth than my old i7-7700hq (quadcore mobile i7) with a 1060 6gb in some games. Tbh it feels like the e-cores are just for cinebench purposes cause the cpu draws way more power than amd chips in idle anyway.
Another benefit to owning discs is if you sell your console at a later time, you can bundle it with games, which gives you either more money or a more attractive sale to a buyer
Yes I threw in RDR2 when I sold my ps4. Also in Canada PS store wants $79 digidal to buy Witchers 3 Wild hunt. I see used game disc of that game in bargain Bins for $20 everywhere . Same with Jedi Fallen Order, $59 Canadian from PS Store and $15 used in a disc bargain Bin.

It serves as both a prequel and an adaptation of the movie, as the story starts quite some time before the start of the movie's events and even shows how the Warriors gang started and such. It eventually catches up to the movie's events and you get to play through all that crazy running from all the gangs of NYC through the night.
It had a free battle mode that was pure chaos and hilarity (especially the levels that took place on rooftops!) and also a secret side-scroller mode that was quite funny (if a bit difficult).
Once was warriors was better, cook me some f#$king eggs!

When will we get a vagrant story remake or remaster? That's a game I've tried to play several times but the graphics really don't hold up well

I think he might've just felt sorry for rambling for an extensive time in a compiled discussion session instead of a dedicated time for his Japanese game nostalgia. It's like you're in a work meeting, and in the middle of it, your co-worker started going into fine-details of a work problem they had recently and the entire team is waiting for him to finish. It's work related for sure but most of the time the boss would step in and say something like "let's set up a separate meeting for that".
I love John's passion and love for games and enjoy his great knowledge and experience of the game history. Just wanted to share another perspective of this though. :)

It melted GPUs. I remember only 7800GTX released a year later in 2005 could handle a relatively stable 60 fps with AA (in 1280x1024!).

That being said back then I wasn't as demanding when it comes to the framerate and was probably playing at 1024*768 or so without AA (it didn't do much against shimmering and crawling anyways...)... 🤪
@@Gaboou yeah, back when AA cost 10-50% of performance. But that's MSAA. I actually googled the bench results and it really was like that - CoR EfBB was crazy demanding game. When 7800 GTX in Doom 3 got 110+ fps, in CoR it barely got 60 fps in 1280x1024 maxed out. The results show that 2x of them in SLI were necessary if you wanted to play with everything tweaked to the max. 😅 It was in the category with Quake 4 and F.E.A.R, Far Cry as one of the most demanding games of 2004-2005. You must've tweaked the settings if you got a playable frame rate with 6800GT. But anyway.... those were fun times, indeed.

I played it on PC when it released, it was amazing. I think I had a 6600 GT and the game looked great. The OG Xbox version is fine, too.
I bought a physical copy of Final Fantasy 16 for $30 from someone selling their copy. Instead of the $70 on the PS Store, pretty happy with that!
34:27 60 was the initial goal they just fell short since they even printed 60 frames on the physical copies that they needed to put stickers over at retail saying it was 30.
The thing with ReBAR on/off is that it is doing more than just that. From what I understand, it also moves parts of the memory management from the GPU driver to WDDM. And in many cases Nvidia's "legacy code" is simply faster than the one in the windows video memory manager. In the future with WDDM/DX12U getting additional features that only work with ReBAR activated, this will probably change.
9:00 Regarding the longevity question, PS3 Super Slim had a function to transfer its OS from the internal memory to user replaceable hard rive. That would be a much better solution than havingto throw away 1TB Gen 4 SSD to be able to replace and expand storage.
As a multiplatform player, this is how I prioritize what platform I buy a game on:
• Xbox is my default.
• PC I use for any exclusive it gets that I like, as well as for 3rd party games Sony blocked from Microsoft. (And also for my most favorite games that I want to just play again as well.)
• PlayStation is for Sony exclusives.
• And Nintendo Switch is for, primarily, PlatinumGames Bayonetta 1&2 and Astral Chain.

I played the demo and it was shockingly awesome. Really nice weight behind the weapons and the visuals are amazing even on my old RX 5700XT.
Count me in for the “super hyped for RoboCop: Rogue City” club. Poor Robo hasn’t had a good game in 30 years and since the first RoboCop is my favorite film, I’m super excited for the game. I’ve got it pre-ordered for my PS5.
The Devs did say on Twitter that they focused on the PC demo because of a Steam event that was happening around that time and that they could either do a console demo, or they could tighten up the game and continue to work on bug fixes before release. Personally, I’m glad they made the latter choice. I was going to get the game regardless, and the better it is before release, the happier I’ll be.

I expect Redfall will just be left at this point. My guess would be they essentially had to do the 60FPS update since it was on the box. Otherwise they might get sued. I played the Robocop demo on a R5 3600 and a 3060ti and it ran pretty well at 1080p max detail, apart from a couple of traversal stutters. It really feels like a remake of 20 year old game that doesn't exists, in a good way.
It was kind of hilarious to play because it was such a throwback.
I just wish Robocop's handgun sounded more authentic and had the signature muzzle flash.

Just done the Robocop demo on a GTX 1070 ti (and intel 4770K) in 1080P and it runs very well with most settings on high and some on epic. Obviously don't have any fancy anti-aliasing option but TAA does his job well enough. Pleasantly surprised that an Unreal 5 title runs this well on my aging (aged?) setup.
The 1070ti is surprisingly powerful. A lot more powerful than the vast majority of systems keep in mind the average steam gamer has a 1650 or 1650 super so wayyyy weaker.
Honestly except for the most demanding games I’d expect any triple a pc game to run at 50-60 maybe more fps 1080p low some medium no upscalling. And like fsr 2.0 1440p balanced or performance medium.

@@SimonVaIe tbf the 1650 and 1060 still sit on place 2 and 3 of the steam hw survey respectively. the 3060 in place 1 also isn't much stronger in rasterized performance compared to a 1070Ti which is closer to a 1080 than a 1070 non Ti.
My favorite surprisingly great movie tie in game is the Peter Jackson King Kong game. The FPS sections are really, really tense, almost every enemy feels like a huge threat and your ammo is incredibly limited, more often then not you have to rely on spears, setting traps, or getting the creatures to eat and prey on one another. The 3d action sections where you play as kong don't leave as much of an impression, but are still cool.

The communications director Thomas Puha at the studio speaking with IGN has explained some of the issues they have had developing Alan Wake 2 for the Xbox Series S.
"Series S, the CPU is pretty much the same as on Series X,” Puha said. "But the GPU is an issue. It really is. And then, having less memory is a pretty big problem. And we often get, ‘okay, you make PC games, surely you know how to scale.’ Well, memory is not a problem on PC. It really isn’t. And that’s one of the struggles when you talk about resolution and framerate. It’s just not enough to drop the resolution heavily. That’s what we’re doing on the S and we’re really, really working hard to make sure the visual quality still holds up.
People accept that on a weaker PC the visuals are not going to be as good and your framerate’s not going to be as good. There’s a massive difference on Series S and Series X GPU. And sure, people can mention this game did this so well and all that, and every game is different, and every developer is different. But you can’t have the best of both worlds. You gotta choose where you’re gonna focus.
The Series S is $250 and X and PS5 are $500-600. Obviously there’s a massive difference between the power you are getting, right? It’s a lot easier to scale on the PC because of memory, and it’s not like there’s one super PC and one weaker PC. There are like 300 PC configurations in-between, and trust me that’s a massive struggle, but we’ve shipped a lot of PC games so we’re a bit better about that.
We’ve really worked hard on getting S to run at a solid 30 and tried to maintain a good visual quality. But if you want to see the game at its best in full next-gen glory, it’s going to be on the machines that have the hardware grunt to enable that."
Alan Wake 2 on Series S has only 30fps mode meanwhile Series X and PS5 have 60fps mode.

At the end of the day, we have to keep in mind that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be less powerful than the Xbox Series S. I'm sure Nintendo's console will get a version of all future and current games on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles regardless of the lower specs.

I think this is a TH-cam glitch. The timeline chapters are there and they work on some browsers and not others. No idea why this is happening.
Even if Redfall was 100% technically flawless, with 120FPS and excellent ray tracing... it still would just be a generic and shallow online looter shooter. That's the core problem, the whole design and structure of the game. The technical flaws was just the icing on the top.
Glad to hear the CPU issue is more a software/development side of things & not an indication we all need to the best CPU's to push through crappy performance.

I would love to see the Tony Hawks 3&4 remaster get made. They already had an amazing engine with the 1&2 remasters.
We could probably see results in 2-3 years if Microsoft found the Vicarious Visions team and extracted them from Blizzard. That could also end in the Tony Hawks Underground 1&2 remasters and then once they’ve had experience porting all the good games, they could possibly make a reboot of the series.
Robocop is made by the same team that made the excellent Terminator Resistance. If you haven’t played it, you definitely should.
That BF 2042 example just says to me that digital games are just too effin expensive outside the launch window. Its the same on Steam. I've got 5-6 y/o old games on my wishlist that never go on sale and are like 60 euros still. That's just crazy to me. You almost never had that during the 360 or PS2 era unless it was some super low print RPG.
PS2 games would drop to a solid £20 after a year for the PS2 Essentials or whatever it was called back then, that's why the PS2 was Sony finest hour personally. Great games, a huge variety of genres and pricing was spot on £40 new within 8 months to a year down to £20-25.

Currently,really enjoying Lords Of The Fallen. It's running well for me and looks outstanding, especially the amount of environmental detail and texture work..but the game feels great to play..

When I got my 4080 it was £1000, the 4090 was £1800 and I would need to get a higher wattage Power Supply. Close to £2000 Vs £1000...and to be fair, the 4080 has been amazing for me. Exceeded my expectations.
Is a 30 percent reduction in size and approximately 20 percent reduction in weight not slim? That's a similar reduction to the PS3 slim. Of course it's still a big boy, but a less big boy.

Here in USA, it is reported that Best Buy is doing away with DVD and Blu-ray discs. Could be the start of the death of video games discs...I hope you guys talk about this or mention it on the next DF weekly.
The range of game discs my local Best buy has is weird. New PS5 releases have been hard to find (I never saw RE4 or FF16), but they have a bunch of PS4 games still on shelves.
Walmart is pulling out of physical games next year, too.

The stand is basically reverting to the state of the PS4 and earlier Sony consoles, which they often displayed vertically in ads, but didnt include the stand to do so, and it was an extra. A bit weird, but we were fine with it for decades. The new stand looks like a huge improvement too, and apparently it will work with the old models, so i personally will grab one probably, as the original stand is..., not amazing.

I’d love it if someone mods in the Terminator music to the Robocop game after its release. (For those who don’t know, the original Robocop trailer used the Terminator music… go watch it if you don’t believe me! :-) )
Everyone is talking about the digital PS5 can be upgraded to include the disc drive. To me the bigger impact is, that the disc drive is now easy replaceable. One of the biggest pain points of old console hardware was always the disc drive. Now looking in the future, it will be easily replaceable by the average joe.

You are being a bit facetious comparing the sale price of items on physical to their non-sale price on digital. 2042 hasn't gotten down to $7, but it has gotten down to $18 when on sale on XBN. The digital version of Ass Creed: Odyssey is regularly on sale for $12 for the vanilla game or $20 for the version with all the DLC. That's not to say there are some publishers, like Bandai Namco, where that issue does come up as they very often do not drop the digital MSRP when the physical MSRP drops. Like Dark Souls 3: Fires Faded edition (includes DLC) has had an MSRP of $20 for a long time, but the equivalent Dark Souls 3 Deluxe MSRP is still $85 on digital. So when that version is on sale, it often isn't as cheap as the normal cost of the physical edition.
Then there is also the issue of Game Pass and PS+ Extra, you may be able to play some of those games (like Ass Creed: Odyssey which is currently a part of PS+ Extra) without needing to purchase a disc or physical copy. I'm sure there are many gamers in which they could purchase a digital console, PS+ Extra, purchase a few of their multiplayer mainstays digitally, and then be happy with what's available on extra/premium, particularly if they did not own a PS4.
I played the RoboCop demo on an i7 and 3080 and it ran smooth as butter. Great demo and I hope the full release holds up. And speaking of the game boy RoboCop game, if you never heard it, the menu screen song slaps.

Redfall launched with an UE4 version that supports dynamic TAAU, TSR and FSR 2.2. Yet it took them 5 months to bring 60 fps to consoles. Just 2 consoles, not even 3. Good times.
14:00 the biggest problem with this argument about the price,is that it's not true outside the Anglosphere/Europe/Japan market. besides some very successful AAA titles most games are next to impossible to find, games older than 5 years are basically nonexistent.

I bought a PS5 disk edition, almost every dame I've purchased has been physical editions through Facebook marketplace. I've already paid for the upcharge multiple times over. Not to even mention deals from other retailers or things like gamefly
I have a 13th gen intel laptop i9 and can‘t deactivate the e-cores on a 4400€ machine, it‘s so frustrating. I really feel the stuttering quite frequently even though I increased the powerlimit and undervolted the cpu. The cpu is constantly power limited. The temperatures are fine but my i9-13950hx or whatever (24c, 16 of which are e-cores), rtx 4080(mobile) machine runs less smooth than my old i7-7700hq (quadcore mobile i7) with a 1060 6gb in some games.
Tbh it feels like the e-cores are just for cinebench purposes cause the cpu draws way more power than amd chips in idle anyway.
