OH MY GOD! I REMEMBER THIS! My mom and I were at home watching it when it was broadcast. I was 9 years old. I remember it because the picture of the moon with the horn in its month that flashed on the screen has stuck in my head for all these years. I never in a million years thought that I would ever see this again. Thank you to whoever saved it and thank you for uploading it. ❤
This is awesome. 1979 was my birth year and I've been looking at the New Year's videos available on TH-cam. This might be my favorite. You can tell they are all having a blast, young and old. 1979 Chicago looks awesome.
Would go back to 1979 in a second! I always enjoyed visiting good old Uncle Dick and Aunt Lucille, not to mention my Great Grandmother Inga and Great Aunt Emma in CHI town....1977-1981 was magical. What a place for a kid to discover and enjoy before too much commercialism.! The Sears and Hancock Towers, The Art institute, Navy pier, Sox park and their "South Side Hitmen", Wrigley and "Kong" Kingman, Soldier Field and "Sweetness", Cheap Trick on WLUP, and a Circus or Bulls at Chicago Stadium.
Thank you so much for this...and the recording that followed! This is a welcome new addition to my NYE viewing pleasure! (ABC means nothing since DC passed.) Thanks for everything you share with us!
4:16 Kathleen Freeman was EVERYWHERE! I gotta respect that woman. Such a great character actress with an amazingly long career. When I saw her in an episode of "Martin" with Martin Lawrence, I really started appreciating her career that much more for the sheer range of genres she worked in.
@@FuzzyMemoriesTV She caught hell for leaving Cheers and somehow got vilified. Watch Night Shift. And, by the way, I never saw Troop Beverly Hills but just found the animated opening and I love at least that much of it.

These were the best of times! Darn shame we can't have fun like this anymore 😷🦠🧼💉

I was 4 this year but I still love the nostalgia
Ah, State and Randolph. The Times Square of Chicago. (And believe me, I've seen vintage pics from the '60's and into the '70's. ;-) )
Nice to watch a show I actually worked on.
Me and my buddy discovered van halen II that night..at 14 yrs old
That snowstorm exposed mayor bilandic’s utter incompetence.
"That's why I like the folks here, 'cause we all drink beer." New lyrics for "My Kind of Town"-!
Big news....$75 refunds for the non-attendees. Fascinating Kup! LOL
Warner Saunders??? Woww!!!! I thought that was Mr. T!🤣🤣🤣🤣
The song at the end ❤️
wont ever be a happy ny like this again ~ 4 sho
I find Chicago-style New Year's Eve too thick and so messy I have to eat it with a fork.
5:10 Hollywood took our sweet innocent Shelly Long and twisted her heart and soul. Thanks a lot.
Sadly, you are completely right. Happy New Year from a Chicago natiave now living outside of the DC swamp.
What, just because she made "Troop Beverly Hills"? 😄

I wasn't born yet 🤯
How many of these people are still alive?
Probably not many. Someone might look at these comments one day in 50 years and ask the same question about us lol
Of course Shelly Long is talking about the beautiful furniture in front of one of the ugliest couches I've ever seen.
Talking all over peoples dinner plates? How rude. The most unprofessional interview I've ever seen.
