Never thought of that technique, just did it instinctly, maybe you need more muting in your left hand for clear results.

You need to slightly incline the pick and scrape with the wide edge of it. Then mute the strings swiftly with your left hand just after the scrape by putting down the other fingers. Or you can slide up over the fretboard just after the scrape. Also attempt to do the scrapes near the 4th fret. Cannot say it is obligated but it is an optimal position for it. I have seen many people do so. It took some time for me to understand it either.
I hope that I explained it correctly. It is not my mother tongue. Good luck!
