- Another one for the folks at Pit Boss, although the tech support said they didn't have time to watch the last one and then kept me chatting answering questions for longer than it would have taken to watch the video and seen what I was trying to show them!
Have you ever had a hopper fire during shutdown? I have had several on my Brunswick.
A hopper fire, meaning it burned back through the auger or pellets in the hopper caught from the heat of the cabinet? No. That sounds pretty dangerous. I'd think that would take out the plastic window on the hopper. What did Pit Boss say?

@Lord Beowulf I'm talking about the pellets burning back up through the auger and into the hopper during the shutdown mode. I've had it happen numerous times and they can't figure out why. On my first Brunswick I had it on and was going to cook but had a pet emergency so I put it in shutdown mode and ran out the door. When I came back 2 hours later the hopper was on fire. I had it half full. Could've caught my deck on fire. They gave me the parts to fix it but still kept happening. Eventually they sent me a whole new unit and this one is doing the same damned thing. I'm about ready to count my loss and push it to the curb.
@@frogbg661 Wow, that's really scary, especially given where I have my unit. Is there something preventing the air from going out through the cabinet and flue? It seems like for it to burn back through the auger (as opposed to maybe smoldering back through it) there would have to be considerable air flow back through the auger and pellets. What are you using for pellets? Surely the wouldn't have any sort of accelerant, etc. on them that would promote them burning under non-ideal conditions. Definitely something I'll keep an eye on though!
Thanks,
Beo
@Lord Beowulf I mainly use pit boss pellets and I have learned to not put too many pellets in the hopper. I have also learned to keep an eye on it until it completely shuts down and fire is out.
Did you ever get this fixed? I am having the exact same problem
