I purposely used British in my comment because that particular idiom is not reserved for use only by Scots. I have heard it used by the English, the Welsh, and the Scottish.

He and Marion Cotillard were both superb. They also did the accent really well (as a Scot I feel authorised to say!), which is doubly impressive for Cotillard given English is her second language and she speaks it with a strong French accent.

OfficialCDJ I find while Stephen is lovely, his audience does not often inspire me with faith in people.
I actually felt that this was a great time to get this off my chest once and for all: I feel that Stephen is smart. But he has to play this constant game of not alienating his audience every night. Like, he gets and loves the British dryness and the asides and all that, but why do I get the feeling that he dumbs stuff down for his audience? Maybe not the literal in house audience, but for the public. It feels as though he’s always trying to keep them on board, which I guess is his job..... Sometimes he “slips up” and has the conversation he’d like to have, but why do I feel that mostly he doesnt? Okay. I’ve said it.
