I think face is a bit odd if youre not covered, but I don’t see the problem with hands. I know a lot of people with some tiny tattoos on their fingers and I think they looks cool.
If I were to get a tattoo (a pretty big if) I'd probably put some small magic-esque designs on my hands because it just looks cool. That and probably a kitsune somewhere. But, I have shit pain tolerance so probably never going to happen
Many professional companies don’t hire people with tattoos on hands face or neck. Arms, legs, stomach, everything else is fine. But if you want to limit yourself professionally go ahead and get a hand tattoo but don’t complain when you don’t have the best job

I thought arm tattoos are usually a go to for first timers? My first tattoo is on my wrist and its small and pretty cute. Had it for 5 years now, no complaints.

I always remembered my right by thinking that it's the hand I use to eat from.
People also have to take into consideration everybody has a different pain tolerance and some places you're not allowed to work with face or hand tattoos
I work in Health and Social Care and I know staff who work in patient-facing roles that have hand tattoos and no-one bats an eye. If you're unsure just talk to your Manager, least then you'll have an answer
i think it’s fair to guide an inexperienced customer away from face and neck tats but others they should listen to the customer. i was persuaded to get a tattoo in an “easy to cover spot” instead of on my hand/arm like i wanted and now im just gonna get it covered up years later bc it’s not what i wanted and i wish i hadnt listened to the artist.

I've had a hand tattoo for 20 years. I recently added to it and the artist still asked if I was sure about it. My arms are tatted, my leg,my back. It's just what they do. I have had visible tattoos most of my adult life and I know the reactions I get. You can't just go full into tattoos in a place you can't cover without being prepared to defend it. People will judge you, they will ask, they will say some weird things about it.
It's something serious to consider. Hands and faces are one of the most body parts you cannot cover forever if you have something permanent etched to it. Imagine regretting it afterwards and my god its one of the most higher pain zones. As with everything non-permanent or permanent, always ease into things first. Informed decisions are always the better ones.
I remember when my coworker that was 18 got his first tattoo of his sons name on his neck, I was just thinking “of all places to start why there” but now I see it as a way for him to commit to his son and his future. And we’ll damn.. when I first saw and heard his baby cry.. it felt so wholesome and like a little Angel was inside our work. I can only hope him and his family the best. Truly good people with good intentions, I really respect that.
As someone with face and finger tattoos without being covered, I don't regret getting them as much as not waiting to find the right artist do them.

I myself got my first tattoo on my hand and they advised me the exact same thing, so I told them no, I don’t want to just get a tattoo. I want a piece done in this part of my body because it’s designed for that part of the body. I don’t just want to get a tattoo. This advice only works if you merely want something that you don’t know where or what, you simply want to get tattooed
I feel like it depends what they get because there is a big difference between a small heart on your finger or a few lines on your ears vs a big tattoo on your forehead
Face is maybe a bit scary, but as far as hands go, should be fine. I work in two different professional research enviornments, one as a clerical assistant and the other as a research assistant. I have two tats, one is fairly noticeable on my forearm, but is small and tasteful. Almost all the ladies in my office also have tattoos and our new full time male hire does as well (sleeves I think). i think workplaces dont care as much as they did in the past about tattoos so hand tattoos should be acceptable. Maybe its a pain tolerance thing tho.
i was getting tattooed one day and there was this other client at the studio, she was getting her PALM tattooed and it was her first one mind you, the artist tried to convince her like “what about your arms? maybe your forearm or shoulder? but NO she was fully determined to get it on her palm. she got a huge gray cloud with an eye in the middle and a lightning bolt like this ⚡️. i hope she’s okay with her decision but i don’t think it was a good one

Truthfully, my first tattoo I want to get is on the back of my left hand. Though I have plenty of other tattoos I wanna get other places, so if a tattoo artist doesn't want to give me a tattoo there, then I know I have others they could do.
If any workplace wouldn't hire me because I have visible tattoos, than I also don't want to work for them, lol. Don't let the society decide what you do with your body!
I have basically my whole calf tattooed on one leg, one on my forearm and one on my hand that goes down on my finger… I want to get full sleeves but I’m not that rich 😂
There are a few tattoos that Ive wanted for a long time. One on my hand and one behind my ear, I'd hope the artist i chose won't talk me out of it because I'm not as covered as they think I should be.
Did they end up talking you out of it? If you tried? I’m trying to get a nice hand pierce done this week
My very first tattoo was a star on my finger at 18. The guy doing it warned me it would get blurry and look like shit in a few years, but ultimately let me make the decision. I totally respect him for that. I love informed consent! I love my shitty star tattoo.

Honestly had a nice tatt artist advise me against finger tattoos when i qas 18; I'm 35 now and so thankful i took their advice!

I think that would be fine considering you would have a full sleeve. It’s more about just understanding that being that visibly tattooed can have a negative impact on your life/career since some ppl still have certain ideas about heavily visibly tattooed ppl.

I have 5 tattoos so far, and one is a crescent moon shaped dream catcher behind my right ear. Its my favorite one and didn't hurt as much as I thought it would.
I have 1 on my throat, (like where a trach goes if you need one), didn't hurt nearly as much as I thought but then again it's just black ink and a pretty simple design so I'm sure that helped lol

For me I only have 2 tattoos so far but I have wanted to get a hand tattoo done for a while but any artist I have asked has denied it, I’m not a massive fan of the idea of being covered and it’s just annoying, why are hands seen as such a no no spot?

One of the first tattoos I want to get is a heart on my knuckle (which I know is going to hurt real badly) but I’m not too worried because I can just use a bandaid or something to cover it up if need be (it’s actually the only tattoo my mom’s right with me getting for that very reason lol)

My mom’s only tattoos are on her hands! She’s got a scar coverup of the left hand, with rose petals. The right hand has a rainbow going from her inner wrist, around the thumb, and up her pinky. She’s 62 and never regrets them, and doesn’t want any more tattoos
If I ever went to someone who told me where or when I could have a specific tattoo, I would just not give them my business.

I agree, don't go for the hand first, I kinda ruined how my sleeve could've looked. We made it work, but it just causes complications with future tattoos.
Face tats are odd but hand tattoos, like small ones i see no issue with. Probably the most harmless in my opinion
My 2nd tattoo was on the side of my head 😂 just after that, I realized that stuff is expensive af, so I got my own equipment and started to practice... On myself, but I have to say it all came out surprisingly good 😂😂

It does depend what you want in life.
It’s wrong to discriminate because of tattoos if you take a step back and realize they’re just permanent drawings. They’re the same as clothes except permanent. Ways of decorating your body. As long as they aren’t explicitly inappropriate in an ideal world nobody should be turned away at a job.
But we don’t live in an ideal world, and until we get there, it’s important to learn what you’re ok with having to cope with in the meantime. You may only be able to handle the differences that come with arm tattoos, or even just really covetable ones like chest tattoos. In your line of work you may be able to deal with how people treat you because of hand and face tattoos. But she’s right. You don’t just want to jump into it without fully knowing that’s what you can handle. Working your way up makes sense.
I also think it’s a good idea for face tattoos specifically to get them drawn on and to walk around for a few days. Your face is something deeply attached to how you feel about yourself, and some people feel extreme body dysmorphia and dissociation when their face changes in a large way- not just speaking about tattoos. Sometimes people just don’t realize what having that thing in them will actually feel like.

My hand was the first thing to ever get tattooed I put the names of my twins and when they were born wanted it somewhere I can see everyday and since I'm a truck driver I literally see them every day lol
My first tattoo was on my right hand. Like a stars and hearts thing on my thumb, pointer and hand space inbetween. My boyfriend is a tattoo artist and he advised against me doing hand tattoos because it would “look weird” still love it and think it’s cute without anything on my arm. He’s trying to convince me to do my whole arm now to complete it LOL

I mean i think finger tats are fine. Neck and face I get, but I have only four on my left forearm and one on my right shoulder and I just recently got a finger tat.
But to be honest the finger tat is a cover up of a stick and poke I did when I was 18. I’m 30 now.

My opinion is that unless it is a cultural tattoo like a moko kauae or mataora ( māori cultural tattoo FYI im māori) you should probably have one tattoo on yout body before getting a face tattoo just for the experience

Remember when we were kids and you used to draw on your hand? Getting hand tattoos with nothing else going on on your body just looks like that. Kinda childish in my personal opinion and looks goofy. Ariana grande and other female celebs are good examples with chicken scratch all over their hands, it’s like they’re too afraid to commit to tattooing their body and end up with all kinds of stuff jumbled together on the hands

Honestly for tattoos, say someone wants a face tattoo, just because. It isnt cultural, it has no internal value or real meaning, they arent fully tatted or anything at all, they just want it on their face, than a face tattoo is just stupid. Alot more bad than good is coming of it

Only now in my mid 40 would i get a hand tattoo, as when i was younger it would not of been accepted openly in the working world. Face tattoos will limit your ability to find work if you are in the mainstream even today.

As a tattooed person I have to say that in my personal opinion, hand and face tattoos look weird and out of place if you're not covered in other places.
