Officially the song unravels a story of an obsession and longing for love. The capitalise BE in the title is used in context as the Hanja character 悲’ (‘BE’) as they sound alike and the word meaning sadness, and the title BEcause could be loosely translate as the cause of sadness, and paired with the line BEcause I like you or BEcause I love you, the sadness is caused by liking or loving someone. Also, the whole creepy toxic vibe is link to the choreography where there is a scene of someone choking another, and the lyrics about "forever mine, even your breath" and then "your face blue...like an ocean view" kind of reflect someone being strangled until the fact turns blue etc.
Also, the MV plot theme has another layer that borrowed quite a bit of plot elements from the horror movie "Us" by Jordan Peele where doppelgangers who were forced to live underground depraved of the "finer" things and are trying to are trying to take over their "privileged" above ground counterparts...won't go into much details as it would be better if you watch the movie yourself if you haven't). There are a lot of details in the MV that point to this such as the movie "Us" which has scenes depicting a hall of mirror, someone being captured and replaced, the carnival; similarly the choreography also uses the movie themes such as the doppelgangers holding hand in a chain, the slight side to side head tilts, ending pose of the center member which two hand on her face, mirrored choreography etc.. There are also a few easter eggs for the doppelgangers concept such as the MV is 3:13 minute long (coincidence? I think not) , and that the opening scene and ending scene has the members in completely different outfits (with the ending outfit more whimsical), as well as the completely drain symmetrical hourglass at the end indicating that at some point, the doppelgangers replaced their original counterpart.
More impressively, musicality, it plays into the theme of opposite doppelgangers where there is a two part chorus (whimsical and cute, and a more rock follow up) and two part bridge (soft vocals followed up by a deep spoken rap with atmospherically vocals behind) trying to show this mirror duality.

'be' is the korean pronunciation for the chinese character 'bei' which means sadness. in this sense, be-cause could be interpreted as the cause of sadness. the lyrics and imagery also support an interpretation of ones duality, or an internal conflict between two opposing sides such as good/evil. there's references to the movie us about doppelgangers, alice and wonderland with personality conflicts, and even the psycho reference which is of displays multiple personality disorder. the bad side is trying to tempt you to let go and indulge your guilty pleasures, or as some scenes suggest, trying to kill the good half - because it's doing it out of self love. see, it is a love song \:D/
"HAN JA" is not a Chinese character, but a character made by 'Dong Yi' clan. So there is a slight difference in pronunciation and meaning between Chinese characters and 'Han Ja'
@@FightAgainstDogsPigs sure if you want to use the korean term for chinese characters. lots of asian countries close to china used 'chinese' characters past and even present. each country has its own term for these characters because obviously they don't want to use another country's name. in japan it's kanji. vietnam also used chinese characters in the past. the pronunciation for the same character in different languages can be very similar.
@@ivyshy98 Chinese characters are also known to have originated from the Dong-Yi clan. And I think historical facts tend to be distorted because China tends to claim that everything started with its own.

Well, well, well. Hi there! Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done.
About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you".
The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.
BE is the same pronunciation as '悲' which means sadness in ancient Korean character 'HAN JA'

i think BE in chinese character is Sad or Sadness.. that's why when they say it it's like "BE(sad) cause i like you"
