    The real deal is you need to haul 2-3 partials to make worthwhile money. One car or one of anything doesn’t cut it. Putting together several partials takes a lot work. You can just throw quotes out there but I have better luck asking questions first before sending out quotes. Most shippers don’t provide accurate info. For furniture we need to know if there are any stairs, especially if you’re a one-man band. Then reaching out and contacting shippers is easy but getting people to reply back is the challenge. Some people aren’t serious and are just looking to see how much shipping is going to cost them befor3 they actually buy a product. It can be a pain in the butt.

    I just did my first run on Uship yesterday (9/2022). I opened my account this past spring, and I've bid a few jobs. I refuse to low-ball bids and I look for local runs within my state, but I expand my search area, just in case a really nice opportunity presents to itself.
    On this run, I made $4.27 a loaded mile, or $2.27 a mile round trip, averaging 14mpg in my Ram 2500 diesel and 14klb tandem trailer. It was a 103 mile trip to deliver a 2500lb bundle of oak flooring. The load was close to me and the shipper wanted it done in the morning, so I asked a lot of questions and we struck a deal, walking away with $440 in my account after Uship fees. I spent $70 in fuel, so I wound up with $370, or $61.67/ hour (6 hour trip, including loading, travel, unloading, and stopping once for coffee).
    I helped the customer unload the flooring as he and his two buddies were taking their sweet time. I wasn't offered so much as a water afterwards, much less a tip for assisting, but I didn't mind the exercise.
    I have a full-time job, too, so this is a side thing for me. I have a brand new '21 truck and brand new trailer, 12,000lb winch, pocket winches for 4" straps, pocket D-rings, chains, load binders, acel strap kit, etc. I've spent a lot on equipment, but I didn't get it just for Uship, as I use my set up to haul a skid-steer for my son's business, too.
    I now have one good review under my belt, but why did this guy pick me to do this load? 1) He was in a hurry to move it and I think I was in the right place at the right time, geographically. 2) I asked questions and was personable. 3) I post pics of my equipment and loads I've done off of Uship, and one pic of me, on my Uship profile. I also include a short bio on my profile. If you don't have any reviews, I think it helps to have pics of you and your vehicle/trailer, etc., so people can make a connection with your biz on some level.
    The shipper took pics of my truck, trailer, and license plate for his own protection before I left. I took pics of the load before I left and when I arrived at my destination. A shipper is putting a lot of faith in someone to move a load, having no insight into the carrier, except his profile and a few questions on the load page.
    Uship is not like a load board for brokers, etc. It's mostly people looking to move stuff on the cheap. It would take a lot of work to arrange multiple pick-ups and deliveries to minimize deadheading on a trip. My strategy is to look for that sweet job where I can make $ and provide a good service. Doing cheap runs is like chasing your tail, but I guess it can get your reviews built up.
    I'm going the selective route where I can do a decent run over a weekend or so, and still make a profit that I'm happy with. Uship is a neat idea and you can make a little cash if you see it for what it is, or if you're willing to work hard at arranging multiple loads and traveling a lot. I exploit the benefits that suit me and my position. I'm certainly not getting rich with it, but cherry picking my loads and bids is where I'm focusing.
    Nice video and I wish you luck in your venture!!

      Great my Utube friend
      Good look and keep up the good vibe.
      As brokers they invade this platform and quote very lowwww . And that’s creating a sense on clients that the service is not as worth as it really is depending on what they want shipped.
      Personally I’m doing ok , but deff not taking low ball loads. There is always decent loads to be taken care of, like you said right time right location .

    • @gadsdenconsulting7126
      @gadsdenconsulting7126 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@marck16v I agree! Brokers make a LOT of money off people who accept low-ball offers. Wish people would charge appropriately, but there are so many people wanting to do it; they just take what they can, no matter how low the offer is. I honestly don't know how they make a dollar doing it!

    Nice video, nice adventure. I just set up my first time account, now researching as much as possible. Scrolling the loads seems depressing. Low ball offers, its a shame. But a good guy like yourself with your excellent work ethic and positive attitude can still do well. You've got it figured out. Keep stringing together multiple loads over long distances, or simply make travel plans and pick up loads as you go at YOUR convenience. Good attitude, keep up the good work. I'm setting outside a Chester's Chicken in Grant Park Illinois myself right now, stuck, waiting for a load. Just newly logged onto Uship just to try to get out of here. Thanks for sharing! Godspeed!

Still not too shabby. Definitely not the way to go, but good temporarily. Beats selling pencils. 😃

      @williamrobinson6680 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@edmondlau511 That's the right attitude! I like it! With that said, do the same in obtaining your loads. Help out when you can, it will come back to you. But don't become a source of someone else's wealth out here too. They will work you to death for pennies here too. There is a point where you should say no. And everyone will benefit.
      Network, research and do a good job!!! You can't see what's going on behind the scenes. So when good rates start coming your way, it's because you're a solid business man. Even gritty unsavory brokers and carriers have a conscience, and will "do you right" simply out of appreciation. Otherwise, a poor work ethic is regarded as "got nothing coming."
      Stay safe, and Godspeed!

    I worked to get my apprenticeship five years in Local #91 Plumbing and Pipe Fiitter’s Union in Birmingham,Al until Jimmy Carter trashed the Building and Trades in the 70’s. No work so I went in underground Coal Mines for 8 years, until a mine fire and knew it was still burning in old works and wouldn’t return. Went back to Building and Trades now work was booming. Eventually became a Building Inspector and retired several years ago with 30 year’s. My experience with many education seminars getting certifications and studying hours on end was not easy. Many hours separated me from activities from my family members but now retired I look back with no regrets.
    I have much respect for what you do. I hope you well in your career. It seems lonely though. I would hope you find a profession that would allow you to train on the job that would allow you near family and provide a retirement. This job will be harder the older you get. So many opportunities that would be grateful to have you on their regular payroll. I wish you well.

    I’ve been on uShip as a carrier for a few years. I only do in state transport as anything long haul really isn’t worth the money. The time, expenses, wear and tear, maintenance, etc for long hauls typically sets you at about $15/hour. That’s before paying taxes and you get no benefits. You are better off working a retail grocery store job than doing this.
    That said, the loads I have typically done are worthwhile but I don’t do this full time. All loads should be $2/mile, but at current fuel prices (3/18/22), the goal should be $3/mile. I see plenty of newbies come along and accept/bid very low (as you did) to get started and build up feedback but it’s not worth it or sustainable. Unless you accept gigs that are 100 miles or less for a low amount to build up feedback, you are killing yourself and may as well save your time and literally throw money in the trash.
    The competition is so fierce that when people bid/accept too low, it creates the environment for shippers to expect low prices, which is why they don’t want to pay much. No offense, but what you did in this video is the exact reason why you can’t make money. Too many people do what you’ve done and set an expectation for low shipping costs for shippers. Ultimately, what this does is makes you lose money while screwing everyone else that does this as a job.

    Did the numbers has to make sense number one being on the road for over 2 years I've noticed a lot of drivers don't know what their operational cost is they assume it's just a payment of the truck and that is the wrong assumption because who's going to pay your bills like your rent your car note your bills if it's not included in the rent your Netflix bill all this has to be added up and divided by the amount of days in whichever month you operating in and that will give you a figure that you cannot even if you want to cannot take below I have been asking drivers what are they operational cost over the years and that's when they're thinking about it you should know your operational cost like you know your phone number so when someone is telling you to pull something for this price you know for a fact you can't help them they are buying outside of their means and hoping that you will foot the bill drivers need to stop taking these extremely cheap loads that is below the operational cost it's only going to put you in debt your payments are going to be behind You're going to be worse off than if you had a job That is the truth understand that people want stuff move and people should understand the further away you buy it from the place of origin it's going to cost money to move it I even saw a company advertising that they ship for free wow don't worry I'm going to come up with a solution give me a couple more months and drivers are going to be thanking me
