Maalik’s film looks a lot different from Thorne at Michigan State. He throws with a lot more anticipation and isn’t afraid to thread the needle on slants but often does some risky stuff. Thorne at MSU was basically a 50/50 ball merchant and didn’t really read defense aside from “oh I’ve got Reed/Coleman 1-on-1? Let me huck that thing up there”
What stinks is that the exact things that y’all are hoping go our way this upcoming year HAVE gone our way. Two great recruiting classes, two great transfer classes, favorable schedule. The only difference is that this past season we had a second-year-in-the-system QB who was a 5th year vet in college football, with a senior TE who should have been a matchup nightmare, and a senior RB, with a decent OL. All that resulted in 5-7.
Great Show! I like this 2025 schedule and especially opening up Baylor. I'm glad Auburn is playing a P4 program first game of the year. It's a great opportunity to set the tone for the season and for the coaching staff show they have taken that next step in the Hugh Freeze era. WDE!

Just wait til January after all the bowl games are over. There is going to be a lot more quarterback in the transfer portal this season than last year. Already there are starting quarterbacks in the transfer portal. Western Kentucky QB1 that benched “TJ Finley” is in the portal. Many of the starting quarterbacks are chasing both higher profile schools for better NFL draft recognition and higher NIL whether they do or don’t go to the pros. The only good thing about Maalik Murphy is, with a little more improvement between now and next season, Walker White could give him a good run for the QB2 position especially if Maalik Murphy continue to accumulate negative yardage when he is pass rushed and/or sacked. In either case Auburn really needs to knock it out of the park with whoever they get for QB1. Also put more emphasis on the OL to open holes by rush blocking, always better pass protection, and more designed plays using a big strong TE as a blocker to help get the running back going.
I WANT JACKSON ARNOLD!!!!!!!! Can you imagine walker white, deuce knight, and 5 star Jackson Arnold in the same QB room? Add another like Daniel’s from Stanford. Best QB room in the SEC
Darrell, Murphy did NOT have a 68% CMP. He had a 60.3% CMP. Pretty big difference and I still would like to get him. Still think he’s a pretty decent upgrade to Thorne. EDIT:I know Dapp meant to say adjust completion percentage after he clarified in the comments. With that stat, you have to think murphy is a prospect with serious potential.

HF should get 3 years and be judged on the 4th year. The reason is simple, Gus last couple years and both of Harsin's they recruited badly. They simply have no veteran talent (junior, senior) especially along the O line. Do we want to judge HF on Harsins , portal talent and HF freshmen and Sophmores, is that really fair in the tough SEC?

Wtf are you talking about the young freshman last year looked great…the Poole who struggles last year was the older players….Payton Thorne played ok for the year had his moments…Robert Lewis couldn’t catch the ball….the young guys looked great and was for sure getting better every week 🤡🤡
Yeah, nah. The Freshmen, his guys, looked unreal this season. The only guy who didn't was a guy that wasn't even developed by him. PT just wasn't that good. Let's wait another season, when he actually has his guys on the field.

All he had to do was win 7 or 8 games this year and he wouldn’t have this kind of pressure. He couldn’t even manage to make a bowl. We had a very easy schedule this year. Should’ve easily started 5-0 and at worst finished 8-4. He better be coaching for his job this season. You can’t go 5-7 again and keep your job
Auburn could literally go into the iron bowl playing for a playoff spot. let’s say we start 4-0, we could literally lose the next 2 and win every other game on the schedule. every game after UGA SHOULD BE WINNABLE IN YEAR 3 OF THE HF ERA

White, Coleman, Simmons, Riddick, Blocton, Kaleb Harris will be in their 3rd season and a bunch of them likely drafted. No excuse to win less than 8 games in 2026. If Hugh goes 5-7 next season it’s over though.

Deep ball wasn't the problem last year. We were one of the best in the entire country at plays over 30 yards.

Personally I prefer Jackson Arnold - Murphy seems to be a potentially great passer but no mobility - Doesn't seem like a RPO QB
