as an introvert myself, I feel that small talk is like one person says/ask something, the other person will answer but it will end just there after the person answered. The other person wouldn't continue the conversation or more like don't know how to continue it after that. It feels like a one-way conversation (most of the time) unless you manage to find a common interest where both can interact without having to stop the conversation after few questions. That is why small talk is not good when it comes to an introvert. An introvert is fine with you not asking them how they are doing, they like it if you leave them alone. Unless you are determined to be friends with them then, by all means, go ahead and talk to them and get to know them better but bear in mind that they take time to open up. =)
