Marcel and Summoning Salt are very much in the same vein of “Oh yeah, not only do they teach me about these speed runs, but they’re also INCREDIBLY good at running them too.”
@@purplegill10I love this, it's like when you "slow race" on a bicycle, where you have to keep moving forward and can't fall off, but whoever crosses the finish line first loses. Kind of counterintuitive, but difficult and interesting in its own way.
An idea for a future video: a scenario where you have to earn back the park's rating as multiple roller coasters and rides crash upon starting the scenario (and, heck, have a few hundred people drown as a boardwalk suddenly sinks into the lake/sea). Yeah, you could cheese it and try to spam the pause button as soon as the scenario loads to save everyone, but I like the idea of the player having to rebuild a park's reputation after a colossal disaster.
idk if it works over air, but you could probably do that glitch where people fall through the sloped path at the entrance and land them in water so your park rating is continuously bad from drowning guests
Funfact: The average human reaction time is ~20 fps when it comes to a 60fps game. Meaning that in the fastest scenario beaten ever, it is literally impossible to even react to anything before getting jumpscared by the victory screen.
I always appreciated the ride ticket per month goals in loopy landscapes because those parks could normally be beaten in a couple months. It was a nice break from the 3 year goals
Marcel, thanks so much for shout out! I had so much fun last year when we were all speedrunning the game a lot and working through strategies. I look forward to see what other folks can come up with! I haven't touched the runs in about a year at this point.
One thing I love about Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 is that the moment you pass the threshold you beat the scenario, you don’t have to wait till the end of the year
I don't know that you are speedrunning OpenRCT2 as well so that flex came as a surprise! The tricks are very cheeky as well, just what I expected from you if you're speedrunning something lmao
As soon as the summer ends and the dark days will come back I will start playing this game. I remember I loved this game so much now TH-cam bombarded me with this videos.
I love your videos. You made me go back to rct2! I got a lot of the plug-ins thanks to you. Your the most professional rct player I've seen. I don't know if you'd reply to me but I was always curious what your favorite thrill ride is :) mine is enterprise
I was literally just thinking as i opened up youtube "I could really go for a new Marcel Vos video today" and apparently the universe has made my dreams come true
What scenarios are theoretically completable in the shortest possible time (no early scenario closure)? Would a TAS doing your "Volcania without opening the park" strategy be able to do it in 13 seconds?
One of the trickier challenges seems like it would be beating a park at the specified date with the exact number of guests required without drowning them. It might rely too much on RNG or opening and closing the park to keep them out.
Keeping them in isn't hard, so I imagine you would just keep playing until you have a good save-state about one month before the deadline where you would slightly overshoot the goal with advertisements. Then you just keep reloading the save-state and keep delaying the advertisement until you find the perfect date to start them. Then you just keep reloading that save until you beat it with RNG.
Had to go back to the start of the video to make sure it started with "Hello everyone, and welcome to another video" and not "Hello you absolute legends" due to all the intense speedrunning shown
I never liked these speedruns because it misses the challenge of keeping your stats up. when I wasn't that good in rct it was more challenging to keep the numbers up for the long period time
How's it determined what mouse features are allowed (like the resistanceless scroll)? If i had a mouse button which outputted the exact sequence of moves to complete the scenario, i dont think that'd be allowed. How's the line decided?
It's decided on a case by case basis using logic to see what's reasonable. A freewheeling mouse button is just a mechanical thing (like having a smaller keyboard to more easily reach hotkeys or something), while a button that does a complicated sequence of clicks has to be programmed.
Not sure if I agree with the speed scenario thing. For guest generation it makes more sense, but for park value your rides lose value as they get older. It turns RCT into who can click the fastest versus who can strategize their building. Just an opinion on a 25 year old game.
Tbh I said this about decay when arguing about the win condition for Finish-5 coaster scenarios. That $20k won't hold, so I'm really the fastest scenario loser. Your other idea is illogical, as fast clicks vs. strategy applies equally to guest goal and park value scenarios.
If you didn't do it that way, how would you do it instead? You would need some way to make people not just wait until the deadline for the speedruns to be interesting.
6:11 Yes that is true BUT the problem is that OpenRCT2 is using RCT2 rides instead of RCT1 rides for RCT1 scenarios which is really really annoying to me. There is NO setting from which RCT you want to use rides. For me is really jarring to see RCT2 stuff in RCT 1 scenarios.
Shout out to Tiny Towers, the fastest RCT 1 scenario you can akshually beat (where the scenario completion window comes up). Btw I totally mentioned this to Marcel and yet he chooses to keep you ignorant for the mere sake of brevity.
Speed running in a game like this should use the game date for the timer. PCs run at different speeds so a real world clock is a horrible way to time it.
Marcel and Summoning Salt are very much in the same vein of “Oh yeah, not only do they teach me about these speed runs, but they’re also INCREDIBLY good at running them too.”
And They both are the only YTer that i have to watch in 1.25x.
Tomatoanus too
Fun Fact: Marcel can beat Six Flags Magic Mountain 630 times while you are just watching this video.
Marcel: "what did you do today?"
I watched the video on 2X speed, so looks like it's my win 😎
@@AiOinc1 For a second, I thought your avatar was the Cheshire Cat from American McGee's Alice.
@@CaveyMoth How would you ever mistake this for that
More, for the non youtube premium peasants
Seeing the $100k park value just appear from nothing after less than a minute was magical.
12:32 of course it wouldn't be a speedrun history video without the video creator showing up somewhere
I usually do the opposite challenge of "how slow can you beat a scenario in rct"
Thats actually an interesting speedrun idea. How long can you NOT have the finishing requirements before completing it frames before the scenario ends
@@purplegill10I love this, it's like when you "slow race" on a bicycle, where you have to keep moving forward and can't fall off, but whoever crosses the finish line first loses. Kind of counterintuitive, but difficult and interesting in its own way.
@@purplegill10 well "slow" runs of the game can be essentially infinite as several scenarios, particularly in RCT2, have no time limit.
Well, one of the scenarios has the goal "Have Fun," so all we need to do is to get someone with depression to play it.
@@CinciRonbut, which depressed person? Someone has to be slower than the other depressed people😂
I love how this video builds up to the fastest completion time and it just happens to be Marcel himself. Great flex!

After half a year the entire penalty for that will be gone, no matter how many guests die and how many rides crash.
Sounds like a Sim City scenario.
@@MarcelVosooo, is it possible to have the scenario start halfway through the year?
@@MarcelVoswhat about a park that is somehow impossible for you to interact with that regularly kills guests at set intervals?
Funfact: The average human reaction time is ~20 fps when it comes to a 60fps game. Meaning that in the fastest scenario beaten ever, it is literally impossible to even react to anything before getting jumpscared by the victory screen.
Lucky you don't need to react then!
@@mandowarrior123 That is true!
Not literally impossible if that's only the average reaction time
You don't need to react if you know what's coming up, though. Gamers regularly do frame perfect inputs when they know they're coming up.
From the longest scenario to the shortest scenario...we've got it all covered now. What's next? 5D Multiverse Scenarios?
Amity Airfield isn't the longest. Extreme Heights requires 50% more guests and has no advertising. The record is 2h 28 minutes.
@@MarcelVos I was actually referring to the Million Year Scenario. But yeah!
@@CaveyMoth Oh right, that makes a lot more sense.

What scenarios are theoretically completable in the shortest possible time (no early scenario closure)? Would a TAS doing your "Volcania without opening the park" strategy be able to do it in 13 seconds?
The rides have to test to get the stats so Volcania won't work even if the rides are completed instantly.

OpenRCT2 really should be classified as its own game for the purpose of speedrunning. There are too many changes from the original.

I'm trying this strategy OpenRCT in the Magic Mountain scenario and when I sell the rides my park value drops below $700k. Why is this?
Technically the fastest would be using a tool assisted method to press the ''win scenario'' button.
gotta go fast
very fast =)
Can you make a park completely underground?
Speed running in a game like this should use the game date for the timer. PCs run at different speeds so a real world clock is a horrible way to time it.
This will cause people to abuse the pause button to no end and that makes for very slow and boring runs.
@@MarcelVos well it removes the randomness of PC specs and you're not limited to cursor speed or hotkeys, so strategy wins not dexterity or hardware.
