Actually, the plan was to have a system roughly similar in size to that of DC's, but a lack of political motivation and, more recently, Hogan have essentially made that impossible to date. An expanded metro/subway would be TOO awesome and transformative!
@@keify84 I COULDN'T AGREE WITH YOU MORE!!! The potential this system has along with other metros in the US. What a shame they're not being invested in as they should.
It's likely to happen. The cost of construction has far exceeded to original pricing and planning have since vanished. Expanding it to Morgan State University would be an accomplishment.

I quite like the Budd Universal Transit Vehicle's used; the traction motors have a nice sound and I like the styling. The side looks 60's/70's retro and boxy, but the front looks more streamlined and modern.
They really should expand this system. I dont know why they aren't planning more lines. I know people in Baltimore and they never use it. They would if it was more expansive
@Zanda Williams As someone who is spending time there now and from NYC, I'd say if you plan on living there it's a major convenience to own one. Public transportation is quite reliable on weekdays but weekends can be a major pain, especially Sundays.

if you showed me this video, and told me this was Philadelphia , i would say "true". i live here in Philly , and we got exact same train cars , and very similar designed subway stations !
It actually connects to a csx freight train line...I always found that strange, cool and at first, dangerous. Anyway it doesn't have a use it connects to the freight tracks that run beside the subways bridge... I think somewhere it said that they used that track to deliver those subway cars to the system...
don't you just love the way it does that nostalgic iconic tilt when it goes around curves my only peeve is that they are moving slower than usual and their third rail Protective third rail cover is resembling NYC subway's third rail cover which I do not favor

Baltimore needs MORE metro. I mean why have such a short line and not even want to expand it?? Maryland and Washington need to get a grip.

Please more public transport videos from USA, especially subway systems.
Why not? What's wrong with our country as far as transportation?
This is the USA
It's like watching a public transport system in Africa.

I love them to I love everything about them
This is a pretty great Subway train in Baltimore, Maryland. This is a amazing video.
They really should expand this system. I dont know why they aren't planning more lines. I know people in Baltimore and they never use it. They would if it was more expansive
The subway could & should expand to Morgna State University and even White Marsh but the costs are astronomical.
They had plans for a crosstown Red Line, but Gov. Larry Hogan axed it.
That’s what the light rail link and buses are for.
Thank you, this is a great general video of Baltimore's metro system.
Same as Miami Dade Transit trains
Baltimore and Miami placed a joint order with the Budd Co. for cars in the early 1980s.
@Zanda Williams As someone who is spending time there now and from NYC, I'd say if you plan on living there it's a major convenience to own one. Public transportation is quite reliable on weekdays but weekends can be a major pain, especially Sundays.
Yup
Very low ridership, reminds of the Tren Urbano in San Juan because of it. No wonder why the system hasn't been extended.
good video bro
i love the chopper controlled motor sound
Interesting that these system as well as the subways in Miami and L.A. use basically the same car model also that horn reminds me alot of BART
THERE ARE AT GRADE CROSSINGS?
One at the Old Court station, but it's a crossing for an access road.
hey again😉
Chicago has grade crossing on portions of the Yellow, Brown, Purple and Pink lines
Cristian Martinez Yep they do. Never seen one but I know they are there. When I go to Chicago we ride metra,
6:20 reminds me of a wmata 4000 series.
almost reminds me of the BART in San Francisco
Ace it’s the same type of trains that they use in the Miami dade metrorail
Same
Too bad it's not the 90s, you would've gotten a glimpse of my singing group rehearsing on the train. Great Video, Great Memories.
Very clean system!
Sounds like the buzzing comes from the middle of each subway car since I think that is where the chopper electronics are located.
I wonder when the new trains and light rail trains are coming out for Baltimore.
Until we get our shitty governor out of power, they won't come.
@@charonsferryold 2020-2023.

Baltimore also has a modern and efficient light rail system to complement the subway.
The trains and station layouts remind me of a mix between Atlanta and Buffalo's metro systems.
Εξαιρετικό! Εύγε!
I wonder when we could expand this subway system to dc
north to timonium and south to bwi airport are good ideas.
Sam Sitar the Baltimore light rail already goes to Timonium and bwi international airport
Mookie slays where you from
I thought MTA was going to expand the subway system further to Hopkins Bayview medical center.

Nice
Seems rather empty. I'm guessing not much ridership...
Ridership is heaviest during rush hours.
yeah it gets really crowded around mondawmin to Lexington market wich is downtown so yea it actually does have high ridership
Anybody know the purpose of that spur off to the right (with no third rail) that the train passes at 01:55?
I don't know where that one is. Perhaps it is disused?

WOW what a beauty, complete with screeching and scrapping, world class lol

Jeremiah Smith - Never mind the third rail. The issue here are my ears, that screeching is very high pitched and can damage my ear drums lol 😂

Baltimore Subway uses 4 instead of 6?
They use 6 during rush hour and special events. 4 during most other times and a set of two during late nights and/or to fill in headway gaps.
Small heavy rail system with only 1 line...a subway to hardly anywhere.

The Baltimore Metro is like if someone took some urinal troughs and made them into a train
Doesn't even look like a real Subway or subway cars those seats have cushion are these new did they just built a Subway in Baltimore
Baltimore's subway is 40 years old, and hard bench seating is not needed there because compared to any line NYC, not nearly as much people use it.
