- This was the first full band #dmb performance of this 1979 Led Zeppelin song. This song had only been performed by Dave Matthews & Friends (three times in 2003 and once in 2004) and Yukon Kornelius (featuring #dmb bassist Stefan Lessard (once in 2011) #davematthewsband #foolintherain #ledzeppelin #cover
Of all Led Zeppelin's songs this one is my favorite... never thought we'd get it from the band. A true treat. Thanks for recording!
You’re welcome!
This is one actually of my least favorite Zeppelin songs, and I've heard Dave cover it before, but I actually liked this performance better than the ones I've seen in the past.
Was in the pit, absolutely shocked they played this, had to look at my sister and her fiancé to confirm they actually busted this out, one of my dads favs and we all knew it right away and he missed out
In through the out door was an amazing album. It was an instant classic. I bought it the minute it came out.
To the one who posted this video. You are a lucky person and thanks for sharing it. Led Zepp is my favorite band and DMB is one of my favorite. So yeahhh I’m really enjoying this.
You’re welcome! Figured I’d get some special moments during my first alpine weekend but this surprise cover blew even the highest of my expectations!
@@concertvids34 i bet 🙌🏻
This gave so much joy last night, holy cats. What an excellent cover of a legendary song.
What a great song! Zeppelin were the greatest band ever. They played all sorts of different styles of music. 👍✌️❤️
Awesome! How lucky to be there tonight! They sound awesome.
This was my first DMB concert since 2007. Man was I glad to be back. This was the song I used to dream of when I used to see them 5 or so times a summer.
Wow a ton has changed since 2007! What did you think of the bands’ sound now compared to 2007
@@concertvids34 a Boyd violin-less 2 step was different! I also miss Leon quite a bit. The last show I went to was the Gorge shows right after he had been in the ATV accident and died. But I will say they sounded so good! I was honestly expecting Dave’s voice to be a little weathered but he sounded better than he did in the 2000s!
@@biggiebagel5524 it took me most if 2018-19 to adjust to no violin as boyd made the sound unique and so did leroi. His voice has improved thanks to changes he had made including his current vocal coach Rober “Raab” Stevenson. Glad you enjoyed the show!
Dave and the boys killed this. Sounds so good. Thanks so much for posting.
My first time at Alpine and it was EVERYTHING
Same here ♥️
We are Alpine Valley were the best
This is incredible. I woke up this morning to a lot of talk about this happening last night on social media. I didn't think I would be lucky enough to actually find it. Thank you, thank you.
You’re welcome!
I'm so jealous! Thank you for posting..I'm unable to go to my hometown venue to see my favorite band this year..need double knee replacements...living/listening vicariously through you all!❤
You’re welcome! Hope the post surgery recovery is going well 🙏🏾
Thank you thank you for recording! This is my FAVORITE Zeppelin song
You’re welcome!
Looks like an epic time thanks for posting 🙌🏻
When a band gives all due credit to a legendary song...truly priceless!!! Thankful to have been here at this moment. Also blessed to have experienced DMBs incredible cover of Hendrix's Watchtower at SSPAC just over a decade ago. This band never ceases to amaze.
#fan4life
This is amazing! Buddy on the keys is awesome. When I saw the set list I knew I had to come see if anyone recorded it, thank you so much!!
I heard about this last night and was hoping someone would post it. Thank you 😊
Thank you! I was so happy to hear this song last night. Zeppelin fan here.
Excellent show last Saturday! Thanks for the post!
Still basking in the joy from Sun night. This was a perfect night! Sooo much love!❤
This makes me so, so, so happy!!!
This past weekend at Alpine Valley was electric...I am still speechless. If you missed the Saturday July 2nd 2022, you missed something extremely special...Adding a Led Zepplin song to the already brilliant setlist was flippin' next level! Been going to Alpine for over 20 years...Dave's setlist here are usually pretty darn good! Plus the scenary is beautiful.
I was there last night!!! The guys were on fire! Thanks so much for posting!! 💜
Such a great show, glad I experienced it first hand!
Thank you!!
You’re welcome!
dave's voice sounds great on this. thanks for the video!
This is a really awesome song
just saw DMB at the Hollywood Bowl Monday 9/19 - THIS WAS FEATURED TOO - TOO TOO GOOD!!!
all my years I've never heard that song live by anyone. This is the only band that could actually pull it off to make it even close! Excellent job.
The band OAR covers this songs very well. And DMB sounds good also here. 😉
Nobody comes close to Zepp. I love them, but not even DMB
This makes the soul happy ☮️
great show cant wait for Sunday night's show
The best cover band in the world!
They killed this in Saratoga too, the entire band was high fiving, just like Dave to reach back and pluck the perfect cover… thanks for recording and sharing
You’re welcome!
Favorite DM song
Stellar cover!
GREAT video and audio quality for the vantage point
what a cool cover
So fun. Can't believe I missed this live. Hopefully I'll get it in WPB.
Good capture DMB covering D&F covering Zep, hope y’all had fun. Tonight should be some real ish.
It’s just a Zeppelin cover, no one remembers Dave and friends lol
@@ryanmaher6129wow, when did you start going to shows? In my ticket stash any band with Dave Trey Timmy Tony Hall and Ray Paczkowski is considered a super group. But you must not Dave that much.
@@ryanmaher6129another reminder for ya, custys keep track of their stats, wooks don’t. Lmk papa!! I’m 77 shows deep here, 4.8.02 was my first 👈
@@stoopidalmanac why are you challenging me? It’s a zeppelin cover… that’s all I was saying and Dave and friends is never going to tour again. Enjoy the tour pal… don’t know why you’re coming at me
@@ryanmaher6129 because you offended all of the people that haven’t forgot about Dave & Friends. I can clearly see you’re a wook that can’t count. When D&F tour again I bet you’ll be the first in line to get tickets. Come find me in the northeast and we can settle this on the lawn 😆😆 you’ll be rolling downhill in those Birkenstocks.
Just noticed Rashawn actually blew the whistle before the bridge section lol That’s great!
Rashawn Ross on the whistle!!! Yeah!!!
I mean
Can't even
Put into words.
I've dreamt about Robert plant and Dave Matthews hanging out with me on my front porch swing...
All smiles.
This is one of Bonham's signature songs. Plant got such range, but Dave nicely done it in his own way.
It works out because Carter is one of the few mainstream drummers that’s better than bonham
@@DailyPragmatism I would say only Bonham fit best with legendary Zeppelin.
@@DailyPragmatism is that why carter is playing it wrong?
I will say as a longtime Dave fan with Carter being my favorite…he was uncharacteristically timid. I was looking forward to doing those crazy triplet combo things bonham did (I’m not a drummer so don’t roast me for wrong lingo lol) … but still awesome. Also one of my favorite LZ songs, this one def fits their sound
I was there!
Awesome
Great cover.
wtf? Dave is blowing this one
The best song Dave Matthews never wrote.
It’s about time they debuted a new cover (I know it’s an older cover but close enough)
Dave needs to cover Queen next.
You really goto shows hoping they cover songs?
Sweet treat 🍬
Big smiles
Can anyone tell if Carter is playing ghost notes on the snare? I unfortunately can't hear them from the audio but it sure does look like his right hand is playing some ghost notes.
Captain Obvious here: Fool in the Rain is one of the most difficult songs for a drummer to play because it's the "Purdie Shuffle" in 12/8 time with ghost notes in between. The fact that Carter plays hi-hat with his left hand and snare with his right makes it interesting to try and find out!
Skip ahead to 1:48. Holy Yamaha ad at this concert 🙄
Led Zeppelin themselves never played this live. The vocal part in the bridge is next-level hard.
This had me picking my jaw off the lawn!! 🫠🤯
In other words it got your atten-chin 😂🤣
Video starts at 1:46
My body started to quiver
My hands were getting wet
👍
🙂
😁❤
Fool in the Rain shouldnt be my Favorite Led Zep song but somehow it is. DMB covers it great
Drummer can't get that Purdue shuffle down. Pales in comparison to the original.
Carter obviously is capable of playing it but it’s also obvious that that’s exactly what he was trying to not do.
Carter chickened out! No massive drum roll after the middle section and the song almost falls apart.
😀
We left early and missed two step… I hate myself
It was a tough choice given how stressful the exit can be at alpine. I saw two step from the lawn (left my seat) just so i could jockey for position in the parking lot.
As with every Zeppelin cover the band performs, they sound incredible. But Dave lacks the vocal range to match Plant. But it's still a rock solid cover.
Nobody can touch Plant.
Decent cover. Drummer hit a lot of the notes pre-reggae part. After that though he departed from the traditional Bonham fills. To me if a drummer covers Zeppelin or Rush, they should do it as close to the way Peart or Bonham did it. I liked it, but didn't love it.
Why do another bands song?
Because music is good? Weirdo.
When a cover could eventually and will surpass the original Masters!!!!!!
🤣😂🤣😂 love DMB but not a chance.
Doesn't have the vocal range to handle a song like this.
Ya nowhere close to Roberts voice but still a solid cover.
Carter Beauford makes this possible. The rest of the instrumental is great. Dave is the worst part of the whole thing 😂
Great cover, sweet, and I much prefer Dave's voice to Robert's.
Are you crazy?!?! Lolol His vocal range ain’t nowhere near Roberts.
*Sometimes its best not to cover Zeppelin*
and now was not one of those times
All depends on your expectations in my opinion. When a band plays a cover I don’t expect the original artists’ version, I expect to have a good time singing along and dancing. I had a blast when they played this for us!
Your channel is about concert videos but you dont know how to edit out the first 1mn47seconds of no music?
Gross attitude.
You come to TH-cam to watch videos but don't known how to use the seek bar to find the part of the video you want?
@@littlefriend420 I know how, it was annoying to find where it started whereas he couldve just edited it for us.
@@guitarandotherthings6090 This is the textbook definition of entitlement.
@@littlefriend420 No, its a call to put effort into the video if you're gonna make a theme for your channel being about live videos. Effort is the opposite of entitlement.
They sound better than Led Zeppelin lmao
