    This is brilliant! As a young Catholic who's learning about the faith and hopeful for sharing it, this seromon is confidence building. I want to learn more about Jesus because of the concise greatness spoken by Bishop Barron here. Thank God! May Jesus bless him and you who is reading this 😊 Amen 🕊

    "There's nothing I'd rather talk about than Jesus he's everything."
    I think the good number of videos about Jesus by Bishop Barron on this Channel itself is a perfect proof of that.

    Thank you Bishop. In a world that can overwhelm us with the worst in humanity, you remind us of the divinity of humanity in the person of Jesus. May we all remember who Jesus is so that we can seek to rise above our own flawed human nature. May we always be better Christians today than we were yesterday.

    For all the trads, I lean that way also, please note how important these comments are by Bishop Barron. There is no wiggle room here. Declaring the identity of Jesus like Bishop Barron, is traditional and extremely powerful. We move quickly away from a subjective truth to an objective truth. Something that makes post modernists very uneasy. Bishop Barron deserves respect for making this video.

    Beautifully, thoroughly, and as always, so eloquent, intellectual and very intelligibly expressed...!!! Let's also be remembering ALL THAT JESUS CHRIST "SAID", WAS BACKED UP TOTALLY BY "ACTIONS" OF JESUS CHRIST.
    (And the humour of your drawing the contrasts to your own sayings/writings in regard to your own authoritativeness and the "institutionalising" bit..😄..is not lost, dear Bishop Barron!!)

    "... but I say ...". The person of Jesus - God - is who we need to have a personal relationship with. This is something we Catholics are doing better at but need to continue working on. A personal relationship with Jesus leads us to hearing and accepting His will in our lives.

    "Begotten not made", revealed to us by His divine will and not created at a certain point in time; because English is not my first language sometimes in my mind I tend to say "God made man", but I really need to put a strong emphasis that He is God who assumed Body and Soul of humanity; Jesus is in every way like us except in sin and Divinity.

    Superb sermon. Whereas in secular circles the divinity of Jesus is negated, in many church circles the humanity of Jesus is compromised. It is vital to see Jesus as God's representative to humanity ( If you've seen me you've seen the Father). However we must never lose cite of the reality that Jesus is man's representative to God the Father. Jesus us yours and mine perfect response to the Father. His "Not my will but yours be done" is echoed for us as us. Jesus's overcoming the devil in the wilderness is our defeat of the devil. Jesus' baptism is our baptism. Jesus' death on the cross is the death of the first Adam, our death. Jesus' resurrection and ascension are ours too. Jesus didn't merely die for us, He dies as us. Jesus' fully human life is our life. Read Paul, see it in Romans. So many Christians wondering weather they are good enough, holy enough to get to heaven! Wondering weather the Father really loves them, so insecure in all they are and do, in their real identity. The old Adam cannot participate in the tree of life but you are the new Adam IN CHRIST!. You are now totally freed. I am talking about the finished work if the cross. Don't deny the cross. You were there when they crucified the Lord. You were with Him on the cross. Your old, false self was being shed. You whose sins put Jesus on the cross, were also hanging with the Lord on that cross. WHAT PARADOX! Jesus took all your muck and mine and lifted us up with him and puts to death the old Adam in us and raises us up as the new Adam. We can put it this way, Jesus as our representative was completely resetting the humanity button, fully restoring, fully redeeming all humanity. There are those who realise this, both the full divinity and full humanity of Jesus and they are called believers. We who know the Lord, no Ge is the author and perfector of our faith and all the in-between as well. This is the vicarious humanity of Christ. He didn't just due for you He died as you. He also loved for you, as you. We see it in David defeating Goliath it wasn't a small man smiting a big man. It wasn't a victory for Himself, it was a victory for Israel. He fought as Israel and won the victory for Isreal. All Israel ot the benefit. So it is with us and Jesus. Jesus wins the victory FOR ALL HUMANITY. As He rises we all rise in His train. There are those who embrace this, we can call them believers and there are those who still don't know or accept this, most of humanity and they are not yet believers. God has reconciled them too but there are unaware and still live in their slavery, in their false identity. Preach the gospel my friends and let faith arise because faith comes from hearing. This is your co- ministry with Jesus Christ, bringing the objective reality of humanity's redemption into the subjective experience of all. Jesus is our ALL. HE IS OUR EVERYTHING!

    "We might 'passover' that little statement." :-) Then: at 6:30... "You've heard it said... but I say..." - "He was claiming the authority of the One who spoke to Moses". It occurs to me that Matthew 5 is the fulfillment of Jeremiah 31:33 regarding the New Covenant. "For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts." Starting with verse 17 about not coming to destroy the law but to fulfill it, He goes on to explain that all the Laws are first broken in one's HEART before they make it to actions. Examples: murder starts with anger, adultery starts with lust, loving your enemy is the key to "going the extra mile with them" and offering them your other cheek when they strike you on your right cheek". He certainly didn't annul the Law, He actually made it more personal, and in many ways harder to follow. People have said, "you aren't under the law any more... just follow Jesus." Sometimes I think it's easier just to offer a pigeon for a sin, than have to turn the Titanic of my Self-Will away from the iceberg of destruction, and "just Follow Jesus" because "Just following Jesus" gets you to the cross... That's not a very attractive destination for me, most days. Ultimately, His presence is the final destiny... but that's a hard sell to a culture that's addicted to comfort, safety, immediate gratification, escapism, and "self-fulfillment." But then... as Bishop Barron proclaims "In Christ our humanity is raised up, enhanced, rendered more beautiful and radiant by the presence of God." I LOVE THIS!

    A good talk by Bishop Barron. He could have saved time by just plainly stating the dogma of the Hypostatic Union, which sadly, has been relegated to the cheap seats for the last several decades. Jesus is One Divine Person (not a human person) with two natures: His divine nature, which he possessed as the Second Divine Person of the Holy Trinity always; and His human nature, which He took on at the Incarnation, in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Once a Catholic has this dogma learned well, he can avoid a myriad of doctrinal, theological problems.

    Love your work Bobby .
    I would really love to know your thoughts about what your mum was saying, over lunch no less... " Bobby.....don't you think you are a little over exposed?"
    However I have a feeling - a strong one, that it is my own thoughts on this which are important.
    On another note...."when our God comes close, he does not overwhelm" .
    "On fire but not consumed". Brings me to my knees, as I taste the implications.

  • @DK-tk1nu
    @DK-tk1nu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I accept your overall argument that the gospels imply that Jesus is both God and man. But you open with the unexplained assertion that in order to save us, Jesus has to be both man and God. The assertion leaves a number of vital question begging: What does "to be saved" mean? Why can only a God-man save us? In what way does Jesus save? What is the connection between the cross/resurrection and saving?
    I believe that many in our secularised world hear the assertion that Jesus saves and respond with "Huh? What are you talking about? I don't need saving?" Fundamentalist Christian preachers tend to threaten non-believers with hell. Other preachers skirt these questions or talk about rendering life meaningful. I believe that these questions need to be addressed much more fundamentally, and perhaps a change of metaphor / language is needed. Until this happens, evangelisation efforts to Western secular society seem doomed.

      I have not seen what you refer to. However you almost affirm my main point: that what it means to be saved should be much much more strongly spelled out and not relegated to some footnote. Secular people think it means that we were all going to hell and then Jesus died and somehow saved us. That strikes them as ridiculous. Yet public preaching constantly assumes that the words make sense to a secular audience. Thry just don't. And when someone says you should make clear what you mean, then we are told... ah yes.... it is explained in this or that source.

    • @Lerian_V
      @Lerian_V 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DK-tk1nu It's not a footnote, there are multiple videos on that. In this video, he's addressing a congregation of people who already believe.
