I had backyard chickens for a few years. We usually bought "used up" chickens from big industrial farms. They looked pretty bad, hardly any feathers and they didn't know how to chicken.
I loved watching them grow out beautiful feathers and discover the yard. First they would stand in the garden and look like: "The heck is this place and what do I do?"
Later when we got the hoe to dig up a spot they would run over and stand on top of the earth mounds. They would kick up a storm and get all the bugs and worms.
    I miss having chickens.

I always love seeing any video about chickens. But this one was especially enjoyable. Thank you for showing the many different breeds including the adorable ducks, while teaching us about them. Your farm is lovely.

I was amazed to learn about the lavender pekins and how sweet the pekins could be.

I know that with all of your commitments you must be incredibly busy most of the time. However, when I see you in with your birds, sitting in the Summer sunshine on the grass, I can’t help but think you have a wonderful life style! I used to keep chickens and ducks, they really are wonderful pets. Thank you for another lovely and wholesome video. It is a pleasure to see where / how you live.

The company of birds restore peace and lightness to your soul. I was blessed this morning with a serenade from my Owl friend. What a beautiful gift. I love the time I spend with all my bird and animal friends. Nothing better.

I just found your wonderful channel. It is very apparent that you have a wonderful connection with the various breeds of livestock and it is such a peaceful and heartwarming to be an outside observer who is so very blessed to be welcomed into your very special Cotswold Farm Park which if I am not mistaken is part of the region of England where Harry's Farm is nearby. I know very little about your region other than it consists of some very upscale and has some very prominent families who call this amazing area their home. I have come to is conclusion based on some minimal research conducted several years ago. Once again thank you to everyone behind the scenes who make this what is by far my favourite channel that demonstrates how to care for and treat livestock with the utmost care and affection.

I do love fancy chickens…so beautiful. We always go to our state fair and I spend a lot of time with the chickens. Bird flu is an issue again here in the USA…only in a few states right now, but it’s so awful. Hits endangered wild birds too.

I watched farm content, and TH-cam decided I may want to learn about British pigs, and I liked that one. This is a great educational channel, those who like it should indicate that by actually clicking "like". Come on, it's really easy!

I loved having chickens, only had nine but they were very tame, loved our company and when we were in the garden we let then roam. Always locked up at night though. Sadly they gradually died of old age but had a wonderful life with us.
I bought them from a local farmer years ago who had them all in massive sheds. No doubt about it, chickens are wonderful and affectionate pets, plus, if you like eggs which i dont, you get almost a couple of eggs a day. I understand from people i gave out eggs to that they were very rich eggs, a darker yoke than normal.

A lovely rich yolk is the sign of a happy hen, so you were clearly doing something right! Well done for giving them a peaceful, loving home.

We have a Shetland pup and a regular sized USA Shetland pup. The size differnce is amazing. The 3rd generation, Shetland pup, from Scotland, is about 4 lbs at 3 months. The USA Sheltand pup is about 13 lbs at 3 months. Big difference. Great video! Enjoyed it very much! ❤

A friend gave us some pedigree Brahma eggs which we hatched under our Lohman Brown hens in South Africa. They were enormous. We also had a few Bantams including a Black Rosecombe cock and hen, as well as a few pure white Bantam hens.

Hi to you. Lovely interesting video. I know you are a very busy person. But ! I have just purchased a little house in the hills outside Sanremo Italy. It’s a dream come through Am in the process of getting the garden into shape. Next item on the agenda is Chickens. Any advice you can give me on two or three chicken breeds, would be much appreciated. Am not into meat birds. As I could not see myself killing them. Very kind regards Desmond and no !!! Not the duck / hen.

Sounds like you're in the beginnings of quite the idyllic smallholding! Well, perhaps the first thing to ask is.. what would you like them for?

@@CotswoldFarmPark Hello and thank you for your reply. Very kind of you. First thing, would be, for eggs. Then I would like to have some breeds, for the grandchildren to enjoy. It can get hot in the summer, but in a year or so. I should (hope) to have good cover, from the Olive Trees. Apologies for the questions But my command of Italian is non existent !!! And very difficult to get someone, here to advise me. Next problem will be to source the birds. Bye the way. Your TH-cam program is super. You have a wonderful way of explaining things. Kind regards Desmond

@@desmondg9269 If you order an incubator on the 'net' then you will be able to hatch your own birds and this will ensure that you are not bringing in any bird diseases or mites, etc. Ebay surprisingly have a lot of different varieties of various chickens and bantams and it is well worth the effort. You will also need to buy a box to keep the young chicks in and a metal 'hen' (come hot plate) where the chicks will hide away keeping warm. You will also need to buy some special chick crumb and then as they grow after 6 weeks 'growers' feed. I'm sure that you will be able to find suppliers near to where you live and eggs do transport surprisingly well in the post, so it is definitely worth a try.
