Would love to know (in future vids, if you would) how you decide how often to clean the filters and whether this relates to water parameters (maybe a dumb question)? Also, at what temps do the individual types of fish decide to torpor? I see your fish still active at 5 C. This from the excitement of the camera and the anticipation of food?
There's definitely an episode idea in that question ;)
I can't pretend that I'm, at the moment, particularly scientific about knowing how much to clean. I've been minded by obvious factors like how clean the filters look, also by an admitted guess about 'what's needed' and also how much cleaning I have time/energy for!
My water testing hasn't 1) revealed anything too much, or 2) been consistent enough to highlight patterns and cause and effect.
I hope to do better next year, and thereby determine if my cleaning frequency/water change regime is enough.
As for the fish and torpor, I find that the rudd slow their feeding down first, but rarely actually stop swimming much, the tench stop eating next, and are first to "lie" down and rest, and the carp are the last to stop feeding and only tend to stop swimming for long periods when it's very cold for an extended time.
The fish do appear to be starting to associate the camera with food, it will be interesting if they still do when I change the way I support it in the pond.
