    I am over 50 with very dry skin and absolutely love both of these foundations. It’s been tricky to find luminous, decent coverage, and wrinkle friendly foundations and I feel like I can finally stop looking. Thank you for your extremely thorough review as always. You’re awesome!

    This was a really helpful review on these foundations. I tried a sample in the NARS, and loved how easy, and fast it was to blend. Plus, I love the luminous finish, and it wasn’t drying. But, the color was too yellow. I’m about your shade, so I need to try Santa Fe, and see how it goes. I haven’t tried the new Chanel one yet. I’ll have to get to Ulta. The Chanel boutique has it, but that SA there said it was for only up to 30 year olds, LOL. and tried to push the Sublimage le teint, which I did like when I tried it, but $150.00. The lighting is better in Ulta, lots of outside light through the windows. I’ll try it there. I agree, some people on here get so offended, when you don’t agree with them, ie, CT new foundation, lol!

    I appreciate your candor and optimism for all foundations. We all have different skin types that no matter how many videos you watch, you don’t know until you try it yourself. I appreciate weighing your thoughts with other of my trusted youtube channels. I begin to know who has similar skin to mine and can take their thoughts and judge for myself and have pretty good shot at getting what will work best for me… without wasting lots of money on my guesses of what will work. Just wanted to give my input, and thank you for your videos. I learn a lot 😉

    I ordered the Chanel foundation because I have never tried a foundation from them. The color I chose is B20 and it's a perfect match. I have combo skin and am acne prone. I've only patch tested it and so far, I like it very much. I ordered a sample of the Nars from Ulta which was free if purchasing $40 of Nars products. I have the Soft Matte foundation but I had trouble getting color matched with that foundation as even their cool toned ones are a little too warm. I have the shade Vienna and that formula is a little too matte. The sample color is Mont Blanc and I'm hoping that will be a better match. I've also heard that the Chanel is great as a mixing medium. So I'm going to give that a try as well and do the same thing with the Nars.

    • @MandyDavisMUA
      @MandyDavisMUA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have heard that complaint about color matching with NARS the most. I can see how it would be a bit tough for some to find their shade. They tend to be super yellow. xoxo

      @onestep2dee 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MandyDavisMUA My sample of the Nars arrived today and it is much better shade match. It's tad yellow but not as bad as some of the other colors I've tried from them. Thank you so much for your reply!!!

    Agree that skincare isn’t essential in a foundation if you have a great skincare regime as hopefully, most of us try to do but don’t think there’s any harm in having it, especially if we’re wearing it for a number of hours &/or it addresses your skincare concerns, depending upon the season. My. skin is very dry in the fall & winter so I really appreciate a foundation that has nourishing & moisturizing properties. I don’t expect long-term benefits but it definitely makes my skin more comfortable & helps my foundation wear/look better.

    • @MandyDavisMUA
      @MandyDavisMUA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it could go both ways for sure. For some, the added ingredients are just a bonus, but when you start adding too many, it is a higher chance for irritation for sensitive skin types. I like to have a mixture of both in my collection, and I am just noticing that almost every single one launching lately is high in the skincare.

    Premature comment: I'm so curious about the NARS. The powder was always a favourite of mine, even when no one else talked about.
    It mattifies and blurs invisibly, while still working as a spotlight on your face.
    If you see it on your brush, you're using too much. I have only used the original "Crystal" shade so far.
    About the skincare component. If you see results with an actual skincare product, you're lucky.
    Maybe in three months.
    And that blue light hype? If at all, blue light affects darker skin tones much more than lighter ones. And, as the little data there is shows, the best protectant from blue light is iron oxides.
    Iron oxides are brown pigments which, naturally, are more prominent in darker shades of foundations.
    So just wear what you usually do, as long as you wear sunscreen.
    Edited: "teint" in French literally translates as complexion, not tint.

      @MandyDavisMUA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    61 yrs old, dry mature skin. Tried sample of the Nars and I too found it messed with different skincare a bit. The Chanel well, that is my favorite right now. It is soft, keeps me hydrated but not cakey. Both are good but I prefer the Chanel. The fragrance is not bad at all but understand how someone could get irritated with it.

    The comparison I was interested in, yay. The Nars foundation and tint. But this will do. Wish they wouldn't mix skincare with makeup. Skincare is too complicated. Would have loved a half face of each, for comparison. Or, maybe half screen? The Nars looked great but as soon as you did the first half, there was a huge difference. It looked more skin like, wow. Love the Chanel#1. Thank you

  • @shari247peace

    I have tried both hoping to find my holy grail foundation. I’m very fair and in Nars I bought Oslo, in No 1 Chanel, BR12. I found the Nars Oslo color to not be as cool toned as advertised but leaned more neutral, and I liked the coverage, but my face had a tacky feel all day long that bugged me. Even with finishing powder, still tacky feel. The Chanel BR12 was the perfect cool tone fair to match my skin. It goes on smoother immediately and no tacky feel. It made my skin look better. I think the NARS lasted a tad longer over the long work days and on off of my face mask. For me though, the color, the feel and finish of Chanel wins for me. With finishing powder (Hourglass) I had no oily shine at the end of the day. Overall, I feel NARS colors run more yellow to neutral tone across the color choices. Chanel has better cool tones and true neutral tones. Both are good. But Chanel is my top choice.

    • @MandyDavisMUA
      @MandyDavisMUA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NARS definitely runs more yellow as a brand. I feel like this could be said for all of their foundations for some reason. I do wish they would be more true neutral for the ones they state are neutral. Thanks for sharing your experience Shari!

    • @shari247peace
      @shari247peace 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MandyDavisMUA I did go to Nordstrom’s looking for a Chanel concealer, and the sales person was trying to convince me to go very yellow based on my foundation and concealer as “yellow looks a lot better on fair pink complexions than what matches their skin.” I strongly disagreed saying I want to look like me not like someone that naturally has a yellow toned skin, likewise, I’m sure those yellow toned skin doesn’t want to wear fair rosy tones. I think all shades of skin are beautiful. Let’s be true to ourselves.

    • @MandyDavisMUA
      @MandyDavisMUA  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Amanda,
      I am 42 so I definitely don't consider myself a spring chicken. That being said, there are people who benefit from skincare in a foundation and some that don't. For example, the more skincare you put in a product, the more apt someone is going to be sensitive to one of the ingredients. I can't wear foundations with Niacinamide in the inky list for more than a day in a row because I am sensitive to too much of that ingredient. I am not benefiting from it when it irritates my skin. And I have plenty of foundations with no skincare in them that far outperform those with. All in all, it's hard to make a blanket statement that skincare in foundation is great, when that isn't the case for all people and vice versa.

    Hi Mandy! Great video. To clarify: a « fond de teint » in French IS a foundation. So the Chanel No. 1 is a foundation. L’ « Eau de teint » de Chanel, as the name implies, is more of a tint (as you already know of course).

    As for my personal preference and longevity as well as my skin looking dewy, I honestly prefer the Chanel side better, and I love the fact that it can be toned down with some setting powder. I thought that you looked very pretty with everything done, and it looks like the Chanel plays really well with other products. I just purchased the brand new one from Ulta, and by watching your reviews I think that I’m gonna fall in love with Chanel! Thank you for doing this review as thorough, thoughtful, and detailed as you could possibly have gotten. For me, I felt like it was very informative. Thank you so much for a wonderful review. I absolutely loved how you compared them, your honesty and enthusiasm! You reviewed each of them individually ( you gave each foundation its own time to shine- I hope that makes sense) AND gave a fantastic comparison that I think everyone will be grateful for!
    As for the skin care in makeup, I agree with you! Also, I think it’s good to a certain extent or some situations ( if it makes wearing the products more comfortable, and really Is helpful, and/ or an individuals skin care routine isnt great), but otherwise i feel it’s often more about the company wanting to boost sales ( not always!). Too many essential oils and so called ‘healthy’ ingredients can often be sensitising etc. Or we may not want a particular ingredient in the foundation anyway. As for the blue light protection- that is offered by the iron oxides apparently and based on what I’ve seen and read, we only need to worry about blue light from the sun (apparently it’s responsible for more rapid and stubborn hyperpigmentation… they need to do more research on it still). You would know more about all this than me anyway!
    Again, Thank you so much for a wonderful video and you look absolutely gorgeous as always

      @michellemiller8069 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’d like to weigh in…I think the new Chanel is a foundation on its own. It looked better on me the more I wore it. The Chanel le teinte has completely different textures and wear and most of ingredients. If you like the CONE type ingredient to smooth your skin then try le teinte, but if your looking for more skin care derived product with lightweight coverage and no CONE in it..go with new Chanel. I enjoyed the Chanel! But price wise I went with nars. It’s glorious on my skin. Totally lightweight no cones and just really evens my skin tone out. It’s worth going to Sephora and getting sample and shade matched as the tool on nars website is not accurate. I tried. Very natural and beautiful finish!

    • @MandyDavisMUA
      @MandyDavisMUA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Cynthia! The Le Teint is much more coverage and a more matte finish. Some days I want that, and some days I want the feel of the no. 1. But, if I had to pick one of the other, I would go with the No. 1. xoxo

      @@MandyDavisMUA Really? Wow! You really surprised me with your answer. I would've thought the opposite, since you could always sheer a higher coverage foundation out ( manipulate it if you want to). I'll have to check them out at my local Chanel counter. Thanks so much! XOXO!

    Since the Nars light reflecting foundation advertises as very hydrating it seems2 market more 2 dry skin type..jus bc it doesn't cause acne breakouts doesn't mean it's 4 oily skin

    • @MandyDavisMUA

      That's why I say "most, not all" when I talk about who they are marketing to, and just responding to the company claiming it is suitable for most, which alludes to the fact they claim it's suitable for more than just dry skin types.

    'Le Teint' Means 'complexion'. For French and al languages just go to google and type in 'translate' choose language and enter French word and it automatically translates but it also gives you proper pronunciation if you click the little speaker icon so you can hear properly. It's a great tool.

    • @MandyDavisMUA
      @MandyDavisMUA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had many people tell me that in the comments. I am sure I should have known that, but alas..... And I have used the french tool on google many times, but when you have an accent of one kind, it can make pronunciation of others harder. I am glad that there are others that don't have that issue, but I definitely do.

    Excellent review. Thank you. I tried a sample of both and preferred the Chanel, primarily because I was able to get a better color match. Other than that, as you pointed out, they're very similar. For reference...my skin is normal-dry and "maturing." So the more I read about the NARS the more I see it says it’s silicone free so not to use a silicone primer - I’m not sure how you’re supposed to blur pores when most pore blurring primers have silicone - I’m wondering if that’s why it doesn’t last on some people - I got shade matched in store and she just put it on part of my cheek and it totally disappeared - as far as it blended in well, but I didn’t wear it over anything except face lotion. And I didn’t set it or wear it all day. I’m really curious how it wears over primers - I have gripping, Tatcha silk (pot), Hourglass mineral veil, Benefit Porefessional, FAB coconut smoothie and ultra repair primers, and a few others, so I feel like it would be “repelled” by the primers.
    If foundation improved your skin with every wear you would eventually not need any - I don’t think they want that to really happen or they’d go out of business.

    • @MandyDavisMUA
      @MandyDavisMUA  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Wendy! I don't typically use primers on myself and only rarely on my clients. I have yet to use one with this particular NARS foundation, but I have definitely used Hourglass Vanish and Veil underneath the Soft Matte and haven't had an issue. If you have super large pores, the one in this video may not be the best bet since it's so luminous and can make them seem larger.

    Thanks for your video. They both are beautiful on you. Personally I think adding more ingredients to a foundation such as skin care is a marketing ploy to get customers to buy their products. To me these extra ingredients cannot totally fulfil the claims. The tiny amounts added don’t seem adequate. And for people with allergies could create extra problems. And I don’t consider a study with only 20-30 women to be accurate. A study should include at least 100 or more.
