Welcome to the Haikyu!! journey! This show starts rather slow, but once it picks up its pace, it keeps getting better and better. Just 2 or 3 years after the manga started, the membership counts already doubled. So Haikyu!! actually played a part in saving the future of the sport in Japan :)

Art style is great btw, you will see a style and animation shift in s4 to make it more similar to the manga and some people don't like it that much (I love it personally). Also in s4 there were some production issues, having to outsource some episodes due to covid, but yeah, nothing to worry about until then, its only like 2/3 eps iirc. Art and direction is awesome 98% of the time
Yes, I'm very suprised I thought a little older anime would be alot worse but the action sequences when the art style switches is so different! Definitely impressive!
YEAHHHH HAIKYUU YEAA. Imo haikyuu encapsulates youth sports the best in sports anime, and dare i say its on par with slamdunk! Haikyuu is amazing in general but it hits you differently when you are a youth athlete. Looking forward to enjoy this great anime with you!

Japanese Volleyball is very competitives even in high-school. they had a sport festival around japan called "Inter-high", its like olympics but smalles scales for high-schools kids. and the others usually just their own sports competitions for national championships. so usually they would had 2 different national championships for a year. Once during the summer (Inter-High), and the other one during the spring (their respectives sports national competition). but for most of the high school, both is counted as "nationals" since its same thing after all, just different name. lol. yes. They are school boys, but many people watch it because they are so competitive and already high-level in terms of playing, you can see why Ishikawa, Nishida, Ran, Sekita, Yamamoto and the others was very good right now (i can say Jp team right now was a golden dream team). All of them is very shining already from highschool Wwww

There are many reasons it is a favorite anime for so many people - we love it not only because of excitement coming from rivalry and challenges connected to sport but mostly because every single character has their own story, bigger or smaller problems or handicaps they have to overcome which is relatable. The relationships and interactions between characters are very natural and make you so fond of them (even the ones you might dislike at first glance). Also, there is a lot of trivia in the series that comes from the Japanese language. For example, the crows motif comes from kanji characters used to write the school name "KARASUNO" 烏野 which means CROW. The main character's name is HINATA written with kanji for SUN which shows his sunny and positive attitude. I bet people will mention all the interesting stories in the comment section :) Ah, and my favourite thing is that the rivalry in Haikyuu is shown in a very positive light - there are many characters who are rivals but not malivious or petty - they want to improve and enjoy the challange.
It's about time i rewatch this series again anyways, so why not watch with you! Looking forward to your watch through and watching you catch all the feels throughout the series.

You'll definitely love this show, it's hard not to! The story is very well-written and the characters are all flawed but very lovable! Like no joke, I don't think there's a single character in this show that I hate, my worst feelings are mild dislike for like 2-3 characters, and that's it. I really love that there are no enemies in this show, just opponents, and at one point you'll definitely find yourself rooting for the opponents and the main characters at the same time, and there's no going back from there :P Haikyuu also made a ton of people start volleyball, so it'll definitely just worsen your obsession in the best way possible.

New sub for HYPEKUU!! There are no villains in this show. Rivals? Yes. A few assholes, even? Definitely yes. But EVERYBODY gets a backstory, and Haikyu makes you want to cheer for everyone at some point. It's so well done, I think it's ruined all other sports anime for me. It's so good, Molten and Mikasa (volleyball makers) sponsored the show, so you see their balls featured throughout.
Man I WISH there were 7 seasons. There are 4 seasons as well as some OVA's, and season 3 is only 10 episodes as opposed to the 25 of seasons 1, 2, and 4. There's supposed to be a movie coming? Looks like I came out but it's not on any streaming platforms yet? Not sure what's going on there.
I really liked your reaction! Do you have a schedule for Haikyuu? I think sometimes it is worth to watch 2-3 episodes in one sitting, especially during match - I'm sure we will let you know once the time for it comes ;)
Don't let your height be a deterrent to play volleyball! Working on your vertical, learning technique, it all comes in time! Learn the basics and learn which position you think you'd excel at. Shorter players usually find themselves playing libero (heavy on defense) bc of the lower center of gravity!
