Am from NewYork I build my home 23 years with huracán Ian , I being blessed with my home nothing happens to it , all my 6 kids went our nearest school , Ida baker, Oasis HS , now I use our home as vacation home I’ll ever leave CapeCoral I just love

The real number one reason you might not want to live in Cape Coral occurred yesterday. It is the 29th of September, 2022, one day after Cape Coral got hit by 120 to 150 mph winds and a massive storm surge from hurricane Ian. From what I've heard, the damage is catastrophic and there may be many lives lost, primarily because of the storm surge.
I'm really afraid for the entire area including Fort Myers, Sanibel, Captiva Island, Pine Island and further north to Punta Gorda. The highest elevation in Cape Coral is about 11 ft and the house I used to own off Santa Barbara in South Cape Coral was only about 7 ft above sea level. If the storm surge actually reached the height they were forecasting, it's possible there are many, many people who didn't make it. Let's pray to God that is not the case.
How ironic I stumbled upon this video searching for information about the area one day after the eye of hurricane Ian went straight through the Lee County. I hope you and your family are okay.

I come from NY …. My neighbors were amazing , we all helped each other …I had my power on in 2 days and Publix never missed a best … I am impressed. Love it here
We moved here from NY and loveeeeeeeeee Cape Coral….my husband is thrilled never to snow blow again !
I moved here in 99. And its grown so much. Went through the water and sewer infrastructure. Used to get water from a sulfur well and septic. And cape coral parkway widening project mess. Pine Island road used to be nothing. You could do 60 nonstop from chiquita to pondella nonstop. Tons of people from the NE are moving here bringing the word NO to put in front of everything and the bad driving habits. I'm scared to motorcycle ride here anymore. Property insurance is sky high now. Neighborhood is built up. Long gone are the empty lots. Hard to do anything in the front yard peacefully without someone walking their dog constantly. It's not a place to raise kids. The schools arent that great and there's hardly anything to do. Most just veg and play video games all the time. Sure theres the beach, but it gets meh after awhile. It's good if you like boating, but boating is very expensive anymore. Sold the boat after the 1st 5 years living here. Got into other hobbies. Be prepared to become a night owl. It's just the climate that causes that and no 4 seasons. A lot of people stay up drinking at the bars and such. Defenently need a good income to live here now. Jobs are competitive around here. Its changed a lot in the past 20 years. It was much more relaxed not built up as much.

Yeah, it’s becoming far too urban. I moved over here from Fort Lauderdale in 17. It’s changed wildly in that time. Too many Ill-behaved people from Miami and other places.

I wish you made these for cities outside of Florida, its interesting. Thank you for pointing out how much work goes into cutting grass and yard maintenance, my Dad had a landscaping business when I was a kid, he's an expert in plants, great landscape designer, and irrigation expert but people still whined about paying him and his rates were fair, he still had people that never paid on time. Treat your landscapers well or do it yourself.
Publix is nice, I love their BOGO deals and check them every week, but there are definitely many other options. Aldi has several locations, Walmart Neighborhood Market, now, as mentioned in the video, Farmer Joe's, it's pretty nice, and of course Sam's Club and BJ's are here as well. Publix is everywhere though, no question about it.

I lived in Cape Coral as a little kid in the eighties and what I remember most about the area I lived in was - no trees. My area was block after block of palmetto and houses. Are there parts of Cape Coral still like that nowadays?

Marc, having moved to the Cape from Boston area years ago, one thing I've noticed is the drivers. Boston drivers richly deserve their reputation for being crazy, but I believe it's actually worse down here.
Rod. I think you’re right. I have noticed that it seems much worse in Season too, not just the amount of traffic, which I honestly don’t think is bad, but the aggressive driving seems worse.
@@livingincapecoral So as a 'snow bird' I'll tell you what the real issue is. It's the traffic lights. The lights in Cape Coral (Ft Myers too) are OBNOXIOUSLY long compared to almost every other city I have ever been in. This causes the typically more aggressive northern drivers to get even more impatient while waiting on the interminable lights to change, and to then do stupid things like accelerate on yellow, run reds and practically run other drivers off the road to make a light that's green.
Same feeling as an ex New Yorker. People down here cannot drive for shit!!!

5:10 I've lived in Cape Coral all my life, and leaves typically fall twice a year; once in Autumn, and again in the Spring.. many trees down here have two different type of leaves.. Winter and Summer.

12:20 A lot of people complain about company vehicles outside of their homes, particularly trucks. So if you like to park your company vehicle outside, expect for your nosey neighbors to potentially call the city on you.

We will moved to Cape Coral end of 2022 , I went there only one time for only couple days, but my husband went to take Vacation there and decide to moved there, I still scare it too hot or very sticky and humid,,, Hope I love it.

The best thing I did was leave this city its nothing to do boring, I live in Hallandale Beach which is next Miami and Hollywood Beach the night life is amazing and its always some were to go and enjoy yourself.
Cape Coral definitely isn’t a hot spot for nightlife, but that’s never been my scene anyway so not something that personally bother me. I’m never bored here, but that because the things I like to do are all over. It’s all about personal preference. Good luck in Hallendale Beach and have fun!

Agreed. Such is the nature of life everywhere in my experience. My advice to anyone is to live in a place until you don’t enjoy it anymore, or find a place you may enjoy more and then move.

I must add, 3 weeks and one day after the Hurricane I believe every property owner in CC is here now . As everyone scurries around trying to repair their life , the citywide speed limit is reduced to 31 mph. Yes , seriously , I don’t think traffic has allowed my car to go past 31 mph. It takes almost an hour to get to my nursing job 14 miles away. SMH
What part of Virginia Marc? May as well have said, I moved here from 5 states north, because VA has it all, mountains, beaches, cities, burbs, farms, gated rich communities, slums and ghettos. Any hoo, one topic you left off was jobs, and it looks pretty bad in Cape Coral, unless you want to roll burritos at Chipotle. Unless you have a profitable TH-cam channel about the place, and there can't be very many of those before the monetization takes a big hit Best of luck.

I just work in IT where risk is the situation, and it helps to have a vibrant working community in what you do. Moved down there for a startup when the internet began, failed, and then it was like “internet? Apple? What are those? Got 3 local references?” Different times, for sure.
I moved to Cape Coral 3+ years ago from Chicago. I absolutely love this city. It's Florida so expect heat, humidity, and possible tropical storms. Overall relaxed Florida living with tons of beaches, islands, and waterways to enjoy. I'll never move back to Chicago.

We were starting to get really excited about it, but some of the comments about everything looking the same and being extremely boring is making us think twice. They make the traffic sound like NYC rush hour. Are they just exaggerating everything?
@LinoDaCake the overall population has gone up in the whole area but that was due to people leaving blue cities during covid. The hurricane now did some damage but the rebuild is gonna be great. This area is under lots of construction so that means new businesses and homes.

Nadia. Great question. Unfortunately, it’s not limited to CC. It’s coming from FEMA redrawing their flood risk maps all over the country and they are increasing the ‘risk’ level on a lot of homes which is driving up rates.
And because people like to get free roofs through insurance. So we're all paying for them collectively. But yes, it's all over FL, not just CC.

Of course. Older people, or people with a bit more disposable income, are perfectly happy to pay for an HOA to have someone take care of the surrounding neighborhood. Another example, I like how some HOA communities have the same stile of homes, roofs, yards, even mail boxes. It's a nice feel. Very tidy. Maybe I'm starting to get closer to that age when I will want to live in one too I guess:) Not yet, but I can definitely see some benefits of them

I pulled out my lawn 20 years ago. Our landscaping is all native plants. It's a fraction of the work, literally requires no water or fertilizer, attracts wildlife, and just looks nicer. Lawns are very old-school and just boring.

In June 2020, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) released a new model that ranked Cape Coral as the #1 most at-risk of flooding out of any city in the U.S. They predicted that 90,000 properties in Cape Coral are vulnerable to flooding.

Prices going up every day, government hitting you hard for taxes and insurance. Flood insurance is a joke - if your starting fresh, could be 6800.00 + per year. Ridiculous prices!

Summer is hot and wet. Rain and humidity. Winder is nice, still warm, and sometimes even hot, but much drier. And of course there is a chance of a major storm or a tornado basically year round, but as far as I can tell, nothing terrible had hid the Cape in a very long time. Knock on wood.

@@davido3746 wife and I are thinking of going west. My brother lives in Arizona and lives in a 55 and over. He just bought a house in that development and his lot rent is 640.00 a month. Includes water and garbage.
Good thing I lived there 9 years ago (and I still do) because 9 years ago the house prices weren't that expensive and now it is. But I love how the city is growing faster and faster
You have to watch hired company. They like to charge you and do nothing. They show up you see 1 person walk by window then see no one. They all are setting in truck. I worked for company like this. It pissed me off. I hate lazy people.

I love it here, my only complaint if the amount of trash on the ground. It's everywhere. Maybe it's just because it's open and sometimes windy? Or maybe people just don't care, and it's just sad.

one more on your list....if you can't deal with hurricane, or hated it, don't move to cape coral. Because every other hurricane will hit this city.
I have been living here for years, what you are saying is not true, Cape Coral has change a lot and the traffic is crazy but apart from the huricane cape coral is a beautiful city, please look for more information before you make a video.

I lived in Cape Coral for 14 yrs. and we moved back to Ohio 2 yrs. ago. The hurricane we went through really did us in -- tons of damage to our home and it took 2 yrs. to fix it. This is a nice place but it's much too transient and the cost is high for maintenance on your home, cost of Hurricane Insurance, Flood Insurance, Car Insurance, Home Insurance. People are NOT friendly as they move there with family and friends and really do not want more friends in their lives. Also, if you have issues with critters do not go to Florida. Palmetto bugs constantly in the house, fire ants, snakes, scorpions, monitor lizards, armadillos -- it's a wild place. You have to pay a toll going over the bridge to Cape Coral as well as Sanibel Island. If you enjoy various restaurants (ethnic) you will NOT find it in Florida. This is party central. Glad not to be there anymore.

@@noblelionzgaming6194 Moving to FL is a personal choice and experience. Some people like it no matter what. We used to vacation in FL but living there is another matter altogether. Most people go for the weather...trust me...its way too HOT in summer and you will spend most of your time indoors. Now that the hurricane has wiped out so many areas there, I'm glad not to be in Cape Coral.
