This man is talking about his experience at a specific all-boys high school dorm he attended. Not all schools in Tonga treat their students like how this man experienced. Not all schools feed their dorm students only plain rice for a meal. And you can send your child to experience the culture etc in Tonga attending a different high school. There’s Tonga High School, Liahona High School etc. Liahona dormitory has bunk beds with mattresses for their dorm students. 2 bunk beds in each room. They get fed delicious meals etc. Hitting/beating/whipping students in Liahona is not allowed, teachers get fired when they do.

Culture, religion, environment, financial and social issues are just some of factors that make it difficult for Tongan youth or Pacific youth in the diaspora to function properly in the community and society.
