Here’s the story!! this was a performance for our school’s annual holiday showcase. This wasn’t a serious concert obviously; this performance was meant to entertain. I had a week to write and put music together, put this group together, and then practice before the audition. I had asked Grant literally the day before the showcase to play the slapstick part (And btw he’s not even a percussionist LMAO fun fact: he plays the clarinet) I’ve seen many comments saying we sound bad… and I will say this once.. this was also our 5th time playing this IN A ROW.. ON THAT SAME DAY! So of course we were going to be tired, missing a few notes, being out of tune etc. and not to mention this piece is already difficult enough.. but that’s not the point of this video. This performance was meant to entertain the audience, hence the slapstick and the horse whinny (which is why I chose this piece in the first place) so thank you all for the love and positivity. We all thank you and we are glad you still enjoy watching our performance. Hi! Round 2 of going viral again LMAO for those wondering how we didn’t laugh.. We were all good at hyper focusing on the music and not Grant and the audience’s reaction. Grant also told us not to laugh RIGHT before we went out for our performance. We had no idea he was gonna run around and jump in front of us, but it was really funny.
Unfortunately there are some very miserable people out there who can't find joy in anything and they try to bring the world down with them. Ignore the negatives and own the positives. It was a great performance that everyone really enjoyed. Grant just made it that much better. Keep doing your thing and let nobody bring you down.
And I simply cannot figure out how grant managed the timing: being almost still in mid-air to play the slapstick PERFECTLY in time is absolutely amazing....
Pickled Tacos I mean for this all to be done within a week, I’d say they did a pretty good job, Sleigh Ride is genuinely a difficult piece anyways so no need to be a downer🥺
To those of you that might not know, it is VERY hard to play a brass instrument while smiling, so hats-off to those students for keeping their composure enough to play despite the outstanding efforts of Grant.
@@CampbellJTuba I'm a tuba player and I sit right Infront of the percussion. Every time they play the crash symbols and the snare drum it always scares me and my friend lol
@@SylveonLillie i play tuba too and literally anytime theres snare or cymbals or literally anytime they play stuff out of nowhere fortissimo i jump and flinch 😂
Even though they messed up a lot later in the song, you can totally tell by their tone and diction that these are some talented players. Give them a break.
@@ericaxallen Not only that, but "Sleigh Ride," for as fun and simple as it sounds, is deceptively difficult to play on trumpet. I thought you guys did really well.
You can just tell it’s from the tension in their lips from smiling/laughing uncontrollably during the performance. Probably in anticipation of the horse mask
This is literally the best slapstick performance I have ever seen in my whole entire life. Not to mention one of the trumpets wearing a horse mask for the horse neigh thing. Masterpiece.
I mean, mad props to every one of the folks playing because there’s absolutely no way that I’d be able to hold my laughing in after that first **leap-slap.**
This was genius, these kids CLEARLY enjoy this class, kudos to the teacher (seeing that kids are just dying to break out and do something fun) the parents (for sharing this lol, and for having such talented kids that just want to have some fun too).
Ok so I'm a percussionist and I genuinely hate playing anything with sleigh bells at Christmas because it's so repetitive and monotonous... I'm sitting here a week out from Christmas, watching this with the biggest, goofiest smile on my face. Grant, thank you. Thank you for being you and to everybody else for providing such a great rendition!
What my band did for our Christmas concert is we had our principal dressed up in a Santa costume, "conducting", and at the horse whinny one of the trumpets popped out of one of the presents we had on stage wearing a horse head. 😂 Twas fun
This video now lives in my mind rent free whenever I listen to sleigh ride 😆😂 all I can think about is the slapstick part. This performance seriously cheers me up
I saw this on TikTok and HAD to find the original! I’m so glad I did. As a former clarinetist through college and having played this song MANY times-THIS WAS AWESOME!!!!
Crazy how much this video has been shared across the internet but the original is less than a million views I watch this every year, the showmanship is just amazing ❤
This is wonderful and you all did really really well, especially for so little practice time! This is one of my favorite holiday videos to come back to.
It is just a joy to see them having so much fun. Getting to be ridiculous is the best part of existing, and these kids are using their talents for good.
How Cool Is This ! Way To Go Salem HS Brass Quintet Bring It On ! Merry Christmas And A Healthy New Year , PS KEEP IT COMING ! Enjoy Rockin And Dancing Around Th Christmas Tree And A Happy Holidays Too All ! Santa Watching So You Better Watch Out !!!!!
I love this! If you don't know, lots of people are watching it! Also, I really enjoy younger people interested in music and you can play so well. Keep up your playing, it will bring years of enjoyment.
Erica, that is fantastic. I have always loved music; played in the marching band, then life interrupted my playing. A few years ago, I started learning the bass acoustic guitar and now I play it with two different ensembles every week. Four months ago, I started violin lessons. I am 72 years old.
This was really amazing. It's really hard to play for as long as you guys did, especially having played it 4 other times that same day. Your lips must have been falling off by the end. Grant's performance was hilarious and the horse whinnying sounded really good. I actually think I've played this arrangement of Sleigh Ride and out sounded almost spot on. Overall, it was a really fun, hilarious, and impressive performance. 11/10 would see again
Finally saw the whole thing and OMGoodness is this great!!!!! Have always seen segments of it but seeing the entire thing is just wonderful. Love it!!!
I was not prepared for the horse mask! Oh, man. Grant has the same sort of wacky human cartoon manic energy as my friend Jason, who would have absolutely done this were he a band kid and not a theater kid in high school.
I FINALLY FOUND THIS!!! One of my music teachers played this in class close to christmas back when i lived in canada, and i've been trying to find it ever since
grant the mc i love his energy it made me laugh so much 😂 i could tell this was really for entertainment! i couldn’t stop laughing and i could tell the trumpet player in the back struggling to hold his laughs back lol

@@ericaxallen VERY entertaining: WELL DONE!

photohir thank you!! Grant is talented in every way 😂 he didn’t even practice this part before the show, so I really don’t know how he did it haha!
I love how the trumpets start breaking down, can only assume they're laughing with the audience about Grant. Fucking wonderful performance lol
Itz Jisang we didn’t expect grant to jump in front of us and it was really hilarious 😂 I’m glad you enjoyed our performance
This sounds really nice but that slapstick guy had me dying

especially tuba like i wouldnt be able to be up there with that slapstick guy cause i would legit fall over with the tuba in my arms

i play saxophone but ik how to play trumpet and tuba ._.
the way he runs like the grinch - I'm crying
I didn’t think realize that-
I liked how each step was in beat with the music.
Alternative name: Sleigh Ride but it slowly descends into madness.
Ok but how’d he stay in the air so long
the magic of playing slapstick, it gives you newfound power
he's black
Quallie 💀
Mans got hops
He had air jordans
So crazy how a slapstick can turn into the main instrument everybody wants to hear😂

This is amazing and inspiring!
Thank you so much!!
My whole band class dyin over this
EVEN MY TEACHER WAS AMUSED
*thank you for creating such a masterpiece and thank you for grant*
Angie is Toast thank you so much, I’m glad you guys loved it. That made my day today.
The lengths I went to find this is would be embarrassing if it wasn't totally worth it

I just typed in sleigh ride
saw this on my recommended
I typed "jumping percussion" in TH-cam. It came right up.

I sent it to my friends last year and I am sending it again this year.

Quieda Joseph thank you so much I’m glad we made people proud, this is one of the best things I did in high school
The grinch sneak got me giggling, but him almost levitating for those claps? Dead.

May we always be as joyful as Grant! My mom was a percussionist and it totally fits!
He's not even percussion
Grant was a woodwind, he played the clarinet fun fact
Y'all did pretty good, but that slapstick part was hilarious
They did amazing

Y'all are VIBIN'
I love how the instruments are just playing and Grant is just chaos....😂😂
Whenever I hear "Sleigh Ride," I just think of this video. The very memory of it makes any version of the song infinitely better.
When im a band director im DEFINITELY doing this lmaooo
Yall sounded really good too!
This should have as many views on here as it does on tik tok
RIGHT
PREACH
This is the funniest thing I’ve ever saw the band sounded great but the horse head and the slap stick was hilarious
I was gonna say that percussion was the only one who understood the assignment, but then the horse mask came out. 🤣👍
All of these guys are national treasures, especially Grant on the slapstick 😂
Mad respect to the tuba player. I play tuba as well and it’s hard af to stand and play well

I come back here every three or four months throughout the year just to die laughing. It always brings me joy.
2 years ago and this is now being found! This is incredible. Saving it for when I need a holiday video to watch. Y’all killed it
His first time using the slapstick, mans turns around like an anime villain
What fun y'all had. good job.
I swear, Grant legit hovered for a few miliseconds each jump.
Omg I love how did the whole band manage to keep a straight face I would be dying
