His early stuff is my favorite. It's rawer and has a sense of immediacy and intimacy to it. It feels like I'm living moments with him. There was a sense of yearning and angst, ready to throw oneself into life. I dont know if it was the times, or just being a teen, but it sure spoke to me. Greetings From Asbury Park is a masterpiece, IMO. I wore that album out!
His two first official albums didn't meet commercial success but they are masterpieces IMHO. From the 3rd on (Born to Run) he became a star and the rest is history. I've seen Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band perform in 2007: a 3 hour show! They played so tight and just couldn't stop (and we didn't want them to 🤪), so much energy and generosity, one of my best memories ever. Bruce is not called the Boss out of the blue, for no reason 🤘🙏
This was one of his best early songs. I saw him in 75’, not even knowing who he was beforehand, but got talked into going fortunately ! I have a special request : “ The Ghost of Tom Joad “ from R&R Hall of Fame (2009). Guest star Tom Morello ( from Rage Against The Machine ) took it over the top with his amazing guitar solos.
His first two albums were released in 73. Born to Run was 1975. Clarence Clemons, Danny Federici (organ) Garry Tallent (bass) were with Bruce from the beginning. Clarence and Danny passed away several years back.
This was the original musicians when Bruce started back in 1973…his first album was Greetings From Asbury Park not Born To Run…..that was his third album…..when finally people started to listen his work…..but they missed his first two albums which were more jazz than rock…..Bruce saw the light and began writing popular music for the mainstream fans…..
Manfred Manns Earth band covered two of Bruce Springsteen songs Spirit in the Night and Blinded by the light. Blinded By the Light became their biggest hit and was the number one song of the year here in Canada.

Harri, F.Y.I., The Ahmanson Theatre in LA is a kind of small venue. The seating capacity is only about 2,000 people. It is part of the LA Music Center complex.
A short history of the band. At this point, Bruce had only himself, Clarence Clemons, Danny Federici (organ-long red hair) and Garry Tallent (base) and Vini Lopez (drums) in the band so he had to play piano when it was needed. Soon after this they added Davey Sancious on piano and, from then on, he only plays piano when he does a solo song occasionally. In early 1974 Bruce let Vini go and hired Boom Carter on drums. At this point through the recording of 'Born to Run' (the song) the group was half black and half white. Very unusual for 1974! Then Sancious left with Carter to form a jazz band Tone and record an album. That's when Max Weinberg (drums) and Roy Bitten (piano) were added. Stevie Van Zandt (guitar) was added when they went on tour for Born to Run.They then stayed the same until Danny and then Clarence died in, I believe, 2007 and 2011. Charlie Giordano and Jake Clemons (Clarence's nephew) replaced them and that is the core lineup today. Soozie Tyrell (violin +) was added in the early 2000's and he occasionally also adds a full horn section, additional percussion, and backup singers depending on the tour.

Funny you should mention Blinded by the Light instead of Spirit in the Night, because I really like his original rendition of that song. Like, the Manfred Mann version is cool, but you miss out on all the lyrics Bruce wrote for that song. Also, you are correct, the black guy playing sax was Clarence Clemmons, aka "The Big Man". He was an incredible saxophonist, and has been Bruce's companion for almost his entire musical career until he died.
Springsteen and the E Street Band are just another of the hundreds of examples of the artists we had in the 60's, 70's, even 80's and 90's for that matter, who wrote great lyrics, composed great music, and actually played instruments. Good reaction.
I saw Bruce Springsteen for the first time in 1973. His voice was stronger than his guitar.
I was so lucky to see him live with Clarence Clemons on saxophone
Great musicians. And he was just 23/24.
This song has everything that makes Bruce and E Street band great. The Big Man knocks it out of the park as always.
You said it and I agree. He had a raw grittiness in his first 2 albums. I love them. After that.... not the same.
Clarence Clemons on sax. RIP Big Man.
I think this may have been the first song I ever heard from Bruce. It takes me back to a good place. Music has a unique power to do that.
Lotta groove, lotta blues, lotta jazz in Springsteen's first two albums.
Live 1975 at Hammersmith Odeon has a handful of great tunes.
