    I think they should’ve called it the “Sage 5 FRN” because it’s not really that much lighter, but I really like the way Spyderco is going with these new lightweight models.

    • @bevinmodrak4997
      @bevinmodrak4997 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree. There's no re-engineering on this like the the para 3 lightweight. This is the same Sage 5 with just FRN scales. No significant difference on rest of construction. That said, my FRN version is smoother than my standard version. I would be content with just the FRN version and feel no need to go up the the standard version were I to do it over again.

    Thanks Bryan, for getting this one up so quickly!
    I love the fact, that Spyderco has been adding more chamfering on the lightweight models.
    That LW blade, at the 04:28 mark. Does not 'look' to me either, to be as tall as the one on the G10 version. I was hoping you were going to pull out the caliper, and *tell* us!
    : - )
    At the 10:04 mark of this video. It sure appears to me, that we have a larger area too, in accessing the compression-lock, on the G10 version. Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or?
    As far as pricing goes. Sal just said yesterday, that it is now Spyderco's plan, to move to a 30% off MAP Pricing structure. Which is up of course, from a 35% off MAP pricing. This knife, is the first to lead in that direction. So that explains the close pricing, for now. Between this one, and the G10 model.
    Spyderco is also donating approximately 5% of sales of the Sage line, to the National Alzheimer's Association Denver, Colorado Chapter. So that should have us feeling better, about spend of few extra 'shekels' on a knife ; - )

    I got mine in a few days ago using your discount code SDWMK at White Mountain Knives, which reduced the price by $12.25 making it $113.25 after shipping. I love this knife. It's so easy to flick open & closed. The Sage 5 LW is my first compression lock. Razor sharp, perfect centering, & fall shutty right out of the box. I love it.

    I really like the looks of this one.If you want to check if the blades are the same shape, trace an outline of each on paper & overlay them. Won't be exact, but should come close.

      @michaelstevenson1735 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tristan Russell Thanks for the advice. It has been cleaned, lubed with KPL, and adjusted. Action is still a disappointment. Spyderco is clearly aware that Taichung was producing poor compression locks. They have added a special bushing to the LW to improve the poor action and the Kapara got the QCI treatment. That’s not to say that some didn’t have excellent actions, Slicey lucked out and got amazing actions on both Sage 5 and Kapara. I was not so lucky. My LW on the other hand with the improved action is wonderful, and exactly what I would expect from a compression lock.

  • @plainscrafter5374

    If the Sage 5 LW has better ergos than the original Sage 5, that makes it tempting, even though it seems like it show be going for $105 or $110..
    I wonder what Spyderco is trying to do with the Sage series. Right now, Blade HQ lists the Sage 1, the liner lock version, as discontinued, so a series designed to showcase different locks will now showcase only the compression lock in two different handle variations.
    One more note about price, at $135, the Sage 1 looks like a bargain compared to $122 for an FRN Sage 5, especially if fidget factor is low on one's priority list.

    The para 3 lw is only $40 cheaper than the normal and it has a "lesser" steel. So this being $30 cheaper and still having s30v seems reasonable. The 1/4 oz difference though is what kills it for me. I think the bugout is going to kill this in the battle to the death (and i think it's cheaper too now?)
