I used to love these subs back n da days. I did my first 150.1db sealed on the dash, using 4 of these (D4's) in 12s in my old 98 Ford Taurus on 2 JBL bp 1200.1s... the sq on these are very nice. I never burnt a coil, but the issues I did experience a couple times was, I would break the joint between the coil and the spider, or not the coil out of the spider, also broken lead wires. Other than that if you don't over do it as I did they'll be great Subs.
Because unless you build a huge ported box where that roll off is really low you won't produce the super lows. A sealed box won't compete in efficiency at tuning but won't have that roll off and will play low. Also in a trunk with the seats down the trunk acts like a 4th order bandpass enclosure and gives the bass more distance for the lower wave lengths to peak where you are sitting. If you were to get the truck sured up with fiberglass, wood, and deadener the effect is even more pronounced because the truck won't absorb the wave energy

Double the surface area and near the same power handling. Maybe less throw? Still for the majority of music, not bass testing music, that additional 15 doubles your output at every watt.

Ported box at 32 hrts wouldve doubled the sound an bass. Trunk lid wouldve jumped a good inch an a half just slapping, an wiring it correctly, dvc has to be dropped in ohms
Jimmy Nix the sub performed well but I knew it wasn't going to last long. When about 30 minutes of consistent play going, the voice coil would get hot.
I'm not sure if they would perform any better in that kind of setup considering they are designed for small enclosures with a 1QF max enclosure after displacement.
300 to a sundown in the wrong box isn't going to do shit...those are swap meet subs...get that sundown in 3.5 cubes tuned to 32-35 hz and on 650rms and watch it work....
Ryan Moore I had my Sundown Audio in a 2 cubic foot box with a 4 inch port tune to 32 Hertz. The Sundown Audio E Series 15 is rated at 400 RMS. My Rockford Fosgate 1 channel amp was rated at 365 Watts RMS at 2 ohm. The Sundown 15 would heat up, and didn't sound as good as this system. I posted a video on my channel of that E Series 15 set up.

FixKicks Earl That's a little baffling that they would recommend sealed. Ported is by far better and why would a ported box not fit in your car?? Also, sealed boxes are much more prone to damaging the sub/s - back pressure against the cone as there is nowhere for the air to go, and for that same reason the subs heat up a lot faster and are more prone to overheating with no airflow to cool them the way a ported box does. Also, ported boxes make more boom than a sealed box will. It's a matter of acoustics and physics..
Better than Sundowns??? If you are only running a 250 watt amp then it's possible, but if you had the sundowns powered by a 1500bd or a 2500bd then there would be no comparison TRUST ME!!!
They better considering what Soundqubed claims. This is a different tier of hardware though, these will get loud on 300 watts. If you are throwing a true 1000 watt rms through a pair of 15s they better get louder than what this guy is running. The thing is your electrical better be up to the task if you want to draw over 100 amps for the subs alone. You could run these subs along with 100 watts a door off 1 amp and a reliable 120 amp alternator with a single decent battery. You start running 2k and higher, your electrical system is going to cost more than the amplifiers.
Those subs can't handle rated power, i know that for a fact... Saying these are better then the sundown you had, lmao. Must've been something on your end, or a dud... Ive seen a single zv5 on a real 3500 - 4k rms laughing at it like its nothing...
Lanzar has always sounded great. Back when I was young, Lanzar woofers hit hard, they still do!. Great video, those 15s looked cool.

For some reason sealed boxes in a trunk will hit real low.

I remember the old school Lanzars , they looked like cerwing Vegas black with red surround . 4 12's hitting 140 DB with a Pyramid AMP PB1000.

I had those same subs if they hadnt died it would've been the loudest on a sealed box ive ever had. Even now i have stronger subs but not louder

I was referring to the E series that is 300rms. There's no comparison to a zv5.
