Well done Michael, Jo & George, so pleased you had noticed the river rising, it must have been so scary making decisions especially in the dark! Glad you found a safe mooring. Love the commentary over the top of the vlog too 😊🤙
Think you were lucky it didn't go higher! 👍I've seen that mooring near the trip boat ramp underwater before! York is lovely even though it floods more that than any other city! At least you weren't on the Bridgewater this week!
Last time we were in York we ate at the Slug and Lettuce! I've seen pics of the flooding in York and it looks as though the levels went up a bit after your move so I hope everything is ok!
Thanks for the insights into narrowboating. It is nothing to worry about after you have updated us as obviously you are safe . When we do not hear and there are storms we might get concerned.
Thank you for posting this - ever since I saw the Bridgewater canal breach I've been wondering how y'all are doing. Yup, George's timing was excellent - and you didn't have to move too far, so that was good. Greetings for the new year from Oklahoma!
In light like that, an ordinary set of 10 x 8 binoculars helps to see into dark spots and cut down glare. They also help when going from bright sunlight into dense shade, and even in tunnels. No night vision goggles necessary.
I braught a mono night vision scope for night cruising works brilliant i cruised without lights confused so many boaters as pass them on the river on how i could see, i love night cruising, redboard cruising is dangerous but fun glad you was safe great vid :)
Glad you avoided being sunk! When I lived in York as a student, many years ago, the stretch of the river bank which you chose as an overnight mooring was particularly prone to flooding so I think you had a narrow escape.
Happy 2025! That is a rather scary combination: dark, rising water, at a moment you might not have noticed it in time. Long live George, and his needs (glad he didn’t add significantly to the level of the river). Of course, this was early October, right now I guess you’re very glad you’re not close to the Bridgewater canal - count your blessings, one by one. While moving a boat in the dark may not be a common occurrence, a focussed blue light over the water is not only not useful to boaters, but also not as an advertisement for the pub, as only boaters will see that light (and probably hate it).
Night vision goggles would not have been a lot of good because they got knocked out by bright lights for a while just like your night vision was, but they go off completely while they reset. They are great out in the countryside though.
You are lucky I do remember the Kings Arms next to the Slug and Lettice with a bad flood the water was almost to their window sills. They had pumps in the basement keeping it dry and people had to use a back entrance to get in and the pub was still open. The Wikipedia page for that pub says that. It also has a picture from 2012 of water above the windows. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kings_Arms,_York

Well, how very interesting was that! I’ve walked that stretch , albeit not in my Jam Jams. Glad you are safe and dry! Robin & Trudy 🇨🇦👍

Glad you are okay!
Well done skipper. That was interesting to say the least. ❤️

Well done 2 hours of stress but safely done.
Scary!!! With my bad night vision, this is so scary for me! Thank you for taking us along safely.
What a sucky night for you guys! Thanks for sharing. Glad it ended well.
I'm glad you three are safe. Other parts of the canal system had major issues, and some cities had major floods.
I was watching a UTuber that is stuck there, I think the BBC are going to interview them.
@@damianbutterworth2434 same here nice video of the breech on the Bridgewater canal
Glad you figured that out !! Be safe.
Ah, the joys of boating. Stay safe.
Well done in safely moving the boat!
Glad you were able to move safely 👏
Really interesting thanks..
I'm glad you're all safe. What in insight to being on a river. Thanks for posting this.

George saved the day! Interesting video, thanks.
Good job your both experienced cruisers. Thank you for sharing a scary time. Glad you filmed it and great narration. 🙂
Quite an experience!

Great decision to move, especially seeing the final level the following day!

Wow that's scary. Glad you made it through safely. 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Well, that was a scary experience. It's a good thing you kept your wits about you !
Glad you avoided being sunk! When I lived in York as a student, many years ago, the stretch of the river bank which you chose as an overnight mooring was particularly prone to flooding so I think you had a narrow escape.
Really interesting. What a shocker!

I've seen a couple other channels experiencing floods and breaches. Glad to hear y'all are ok.
its either flooding levels going up or breeching levels dropping this year
I'm glad to see you're all OK. I was concerned when I saw the flood warning
Glad it worked out!
You need a good handheld spotlight. Here it’s mandatory as part of boat safety kit.
Rivers in York can go higher than 17 feet above normal levels !
Note to self, buy a powerful handheld spotlight for the boat inventory.
Well done guys and George, and a happy trouble free cruising 2025 in excellent health 👍
Good good, important to see!
Well done, glad that it all went well. Haven't you got a bow light on your boat that you could have used?
Nerve-wracking!
I thought it was you I had seen moored up near the museum.
Very scary!
Your starting location has a lot of disaster potential in a flood. I can just picture a boat stuck on top when the level drops again.
Night vision goggles would not have been a lot of good because they got knocked out by bright lights for a while just like your night vision was, but they go off completely while they reset. They are great out in the countryside though.
It's life on a narrowboat😅
Boats could do with planks that can be deployed on their sides.
♥
Is this the same flooding that all but destroyed the Bridgewater Canal?
Ah....The adventures of narrowboating....What fun. Definition of adventure. "One man's adventure is another man's crisis situation."

too much light pollution for NVGs fitting a huge spotlight on the front would be more use.
