Mechanic here. The old Johnson / Evenrude 9.9's are a beautiful little 2 stroke that you must pre-mix the oil and gas. But did you know, thats its the same as a 15hp? Ebayed a 15 hp carb for $60. Gained a 1000 rpm. Frigging thing screamed. All i did was a 15hp carb swap. They are literally the same engine with different carbs! You can look it up. Same engine, different carbs. Oh, and good vid bud! 🍻
Anyone who’s spent time in the marine industry, knows this. 6/8/9.9 same block engine weight 28kg 9.9/15/18 same block engine weight 32kg 20/25/30/35 same block engine weight 54kg Johnson had a variety of small two stroke variants
Thanks so much! They are definitely a hoot to run! I do actually sell most of the builds to afford future builds , this one will be listed shortly! Cheers!
Absolutely love what you are doing.....and with a continuous smile as well. If you get serious with this particular boat, widen it a bit I could see a contender for the Gheenoe market.
Thank you so much for sharing. I appreciate this tremendously and heck yes. I’ve gone down a similar path with the potential this skiff has. :) cheers!
Right on! And heck yeah, it would be great to see you out sometime. The “Pottcake “ skiff lives down there now and we’ve been talking about getting together soon. Not too far if a cruise down there!
Love the build!.. Just a suggestion but I think I would take the bench out and sit on the floor. Lower the center of gravity, might help with sketchiness!.. Good luck!.. 32mph with 25hp. 🤙
Right on Brian! Great suggestion and would definitely help w stability. It takes a little getting used to but once you do its easy to find the sweet balance spot and be comfy. Pretty good guess!😅. I’m stoked to share part 4 so you can see it unleashed!! Cheers!
Man, I can’t wait to see this thing done! It’s gonna be scary fast! I have an 80’s wellcraft v20 hull rotting in the yard and these videos got us wanting to have fun and build something like this! Too many projects, not enough time! 🙄 cheers to another great vid!🍻
EPIC Awesomeness! Outrunning the fancy Custom Gheenoe is impressive. An old school 30hp, 2-stroke, Enduro Yami short-shaft would make her fly! Cheers from the other end of the state.
right on Karl! Thanks so much as always buddy! Man oh man would i love to get my hands on one of those 30 hp enduros!! Dream motor indeed and boy would she go! But.... with that being said... wait till you see her go with the bugs worked out! New video will be up soon!
Thanks for sharing Cody , Not a bad idea and one I’ll consider once I play with the bottom. I’m just finishing tweaking sone other things and haven’t decided yet on messing with bottom much. Stay tuned!
Awesome! Sometimes fixing one bad link just exposes the next bad link in a chain. Test runs are for finding the weaknesses. Also. I'm fairly local to you, (I recognize the boat ramp) and a woodworker by trade (I build bespoke furniture), I'd love to collab sometime.
You’ve got the right idea friend! I’m lucky the boat ramp is only a stone throw away! :) And right on, I’d absolutely love to collaborate. I have sone pretty cool pieces of wood I’m planning to incorporate soon. Shoot me an email. Me let’s chat sometime. Diywaterworld@gmail.com cheers!
Ahhh, yea that motor has issues👈🏼😄,you might have to get some weight in the bow that panga looking bow snow plows the wind and lifts the bow out of the water , wind resistance , can’t wait to see fine tune this boat .
Thanks Dave! I got the motor issues worked out thankfully and I’m excited to share the results! Good idea regarding the bow. Going into this I knew aerodynamics would play a huge roll in the 40+ mph realm and it’s been challenging to say the least! So far it’s getting incredibly close! Stay tuned!
I watched it. I’m number 3 for watching it. I really like your video. I can’t wait for the next one. And I would like to have that boat. How well would it be in a lake? AWLSOME!
Right on Stan! I appreciate your comment and being here! And heck yes, this boat would be a rockstar on a lake as well! If you're truly interested in owning it I actually might be seeling it coincidentally. Details will be shared in the next video or you can email me direct at diywaterworld@gmail.com cheers!
The way you've started incorporating wood, imagine if you actually added some teak gunnels/rubrails (even if decorative thin ones), and on top of that managed to score some lightweight faux-wood center console; and if you topped it all with an art-deco styled vintage outboard in the 30hp range, now that would be a sick looking, as well as fast going pocket rocket. Because to be honest since the 80's outboard manufacturers have completely given up on the appearance of their products, with the last properly styled ones probably being the Chrysler units.
Oh man, you’re literally reading my mind Boris. Can’t wait for you to see part 4! Haha. I’m trying my hardest to keep the wooden Thai long tail feel to this build. I think you’ll approve! Thank you for sharing, I love your style! Cheers
@@diywaterworld Loving the concept and execution thus-far. Was wandering though, as a complete noob in such things myself, would it be possible to make your own outboard (either) cowling or surface redesign of a readily existing one, as to make it look more like them vintage mercury art-deco ones, without it being too much work or looking too tacky...
Thinking squeezing the ball would keep it steady if it was the fuel pump.. Fished offshore for a month or so with someone working the ball from spot to spot.. Lol
Hahaha. I’ve been there done that more then one occasion haha. This thing was a bit temperamental and never gave clear signs , but all is good, I got it figured out! Cheers!
the surging motor does make it seem like there's an issue in the fuel system. I would've thought a new fuel pump would work, but there may be a pinhole in the diaphragm, or a leak elsewhere in the line (dirty high speed jet/clog). thankfully, there's not much to the old OMC motors. Good luck.
Right?! Well, spoiler alert for next video haha, I get it sorted and it is definitely a fuel issue. Turns our some gunk worked loose from the old fuel pump and worked it's way into the freshly rebuilt carb. Actually jamming up the float needle, essentially not allowing the bowl to fill up fast enough under a real fuel demanding load. Got it squared away and the results are sure to make you smile! haha
Go to the prop guy, whatever the diameter is on the 9.9 keep that the same. Increase the pitch to 17 or 19 and the 9.9 will hit 50 mph. 10 horse is enough because there is no weight. So you will get to the top rpm. Right now that 9.9 with the boat you built or let's say a 16 ft aluminum boat will get that same speed. To get more speed you don't need more horse power on this build. You need more pitch. To have fun id put a 15hp with a custom 21 pitch prop same diameter and you will hit 50 to 60 MPH
@@diywaterworld You got it. Love the content keep it coming! Oh so I have a very hi reving 1974 fast twin 15hp short shaft, if you know about that particular motor you know its more like a 25hp with that legendary twin v sound. Its a fresh water motor from the catskill mountains brought it here this past fall. If your interested it runs like a dream perfect compression etc. I'm looking for a 40 to 60hp tiller long shaft I can trade plus cash etc. So keep in mind its a very clean classic 15 fast twin and parts are readily available still and its missing and needs nothing. Fogged and ready to go.
48 mph from my boat 3 cylinder 50hp lightweight (high pitched prop, engine weight 58kg) 152kg 14ft boat. Tiller steer You need boat weight to remain stable at speed.

Love these videos. Makes me want t make something. Thank you for taking the time.
I love this! I say go for it! Start a build my friend! Cheers!!
I’ll never not click a janky skiff video. Keep ‘em coming, thanks!
hahaha, hell yes! THANK YOU amigo! cheers!
Lol, Janky Skiff Inc. should be your new clothing brand.
Хорошая лодка, хорошее видео, спасибо!!! Удачи!!!
Great to see you back!
Thank you! Glad to be back!!
New sub, one of my favorite channels to watch.
Right on Jerimiah! I certainly appreciate it and I’m glad you like the content and have joined us! Cheers!
Looking forward to seeing you hit that 50 mph mark

Woo Part 3!
Haha! Yes buddy! Now hopefully I can fit the rest of the build in part 4 lol. It’s going to be a loooong one! Cheers!
OK. Damn it! You got me to subscribe. Fun channel.
Would you ever build these customs skiffs for people to buy because they all look badass and I'm pretty sure they're fun as hell

You should vids on the motor repairs! I'd watch a video only about motor repair.
Those are really nice. You still have to put them on a trailer. Why not make them 5 foot wide and be able to carry 3 people comfortably?
What if you added like external chines on the sides just in the back kinda like the bartender boat?

Are the side 1/4” divinycell?
Hi Jason, no , on this build I did them out of 1/4 ply wood. Polyester resin coated / fiberglassed on both sides 👍🏻😎
48 mph from my boat
3 cylinder 50hp lightweight (high pitched prop, engine weight 58kg)
152kg 14ft boat. Tiller steer
You need boat weight to remain stable at speed.
That thing needs stick steering and a center cooler seat
Haha, I love it and I’ve seriously considered it especially since I’ve got a setup laying around. 😎. Stay tuned!
