Why just ipoh? How about the surrounding towns like Kuala Kangsar, Taiping or Teluk Intan? Those towns offer more food cultures and tourism values.

Spill over effect….need to select one town to host the airport

Like seriously. You mean we have to build airports in all those cities? That is ridiculous especially since all those cities are less than an hour and a half from Ipoh. Plus, all of those cities barely have any tourists coming. Why should anybody build an airport in a city that nobody is going to visit. Ipoh already has the big population and the infrastructure to justify building an airport. Plus its centrality to the whole of Perak, it just makes perfect sense to build a new airport there

Only outdated archaic leaders proposed such issue.. A person looking up the sky under the well.
How big is penusula ahh !!
HST should be now available running N to S. to facilitates tourists coming in fr Singapore and Thailand. and acting as short stays here before hoping to other secondary towns or cities within the ASEAN region.
Just ask him how much does it cost to maintain the airport and other necessary service facilities. Building is easy, like Pak LAH said 1st class facilities but all become 3rd world cranking slow motion facilities... The latest eg is at KLIA mono train and its front line counter personnel's.. So when can we see the drastic change of reformasi... The Great Leap Forward of Malaysia...??? ❤❤❤

You are wrong. Ipoh needed this airport. It doesnt make sense for foreign investors to set up factories in Ipoh because in order for them to send their staff from the HQ to Ipoh to do site visits, meetings and so on is a drag. First of all you have to travel from the HQ country airport and then stop at KL. Take the KLIA transit train and then stop at KL Sentral and then take the KL-Ipoh ETS for another 2 and a half hours. Who would even want to do that? That is why for decades Ipoh has been lagging behind other cities in terms of growth. Why would anybody want to invest in Ipoh when there are direct flights to KL or Penang.
This airport is necessary for business purposes. Because Penang & Klang Valley lamd prices are already expensive and wages are higher too. Those 2 cities are becoming less and less attractive as a low cost manufacturing hub and they are even moving towards high value manufacturing. So if we want to ensure that these low cost manufacturers don't fly to Indonesia or Vietnam we better make sure our secondary cities have the necessary infrastructure in order to convince foreign manufacturers to relocate to other cities within our country.
Plus, Ipoh airport is justified in my opinion. In 2019 we only received 5,000 foreign tourists, in 2022 we received 50,000 foreign tourists, this year based on the numbers so far it seems we could reach 500,000 and next year is visit Perak year I will not be surprised if we reach 1 million visitors. More and more foreign tourists are coming here not to mention even local tourists from KL, Penang, Melak, Johor and all have started coming to Ipoh in droves. I remember back then during weekends traffic was a breeze, these days traffic during weekends are even worse during weekdays because too many day trips from Selangor, KL, Penang. There are also millions of Perakians who worked in KL, Penang, Melaka, JB and many even worked in Singapore that would love to avoid the horrible traffic during festive celenrations. There is a demand for flights in Ipoh and it's growing very rapidly. Are we going to plan for the future or are we going to be complacent and live by the day like u suggested? Maybe we will lose some money to do all those airport maintenance and all but we gain far more when more tourists come here and factories are set up here. We lose some but we gain more, so what's the issue? You can't rely on KL, Selangor, Johor, Penang only to spearhead growth. Those cities have almost reached their limit already. Now it's time to lift other states as well.

@@secrets.295 if that is your view then you might as well say each state should have their own airport to provide first class instant convenient for all.. Also don't worry, flying taxi will also supplement visitors from the airport to their destinations.. China is so huge, I wonder how many airports do they have and why HST is running all over their provinces.. 😳😳🤣🤣🤣🙄🙄🤔🤔🤔

Ipoh must not just focus on tourism

I don't think the government is just focusing on tourism. They are continually expanding the Lumut port and this will increase manufacturing investments because we no longer have to rely on Port Klang which is 2 and half hours away from Ipoh to export goods. Lumut is just so much closer. Plus the airport is necessary not only because it can boost tourism. Previously it doesn't make sense for foreign investors to invest in Ipoh. If a Manager from Germany has to do meetings or site visit in Ipoh they have to first fly to KL and then take the KLIA transit to KL sentral and then take the ETS for 2 and a half more hours from KL to Ipoh. Investing in Ipoh doesn't make any sense. If there is a direct flight at least from KL to Ipoh that would make much more sense. I believe both the new airport + the Lumut port is necessary to attract FDI. It couldnt have come at a better time as well because Klang Valley & Penang is no longer cheap to do business and they are moving towards the high end manufacturing sector, especially Penang. Investors are looking for other part of Malaysia to set up their factories but in order for Ipoh to gain from this the infrastructure must be there. Or else we won't be able to attract more investors.
