A select few singers are generally near flawless, but based on the standard set by the vast majority of live performers I certainly would not label THIS performance as off key... This performance was incredible. People get used to hearing the mastering process... This is pure raw talent. I love hearing these raw recordings. They remind me that my dry vocals aren't as bad as the criticism I give myself. If you're a vocalist of any kind, watch videos like these. They are real. Raw. They are what you should aspire to hit... because if you can hit this level, mastering can take you to the moon.
I could totally be wrong here, but since this is an "official live video" it's possible that the reason the crowd sounds so dead is because the audio in this was recorded directly from each instrument, instead of recorded from mics capturing the whole concert. I've heard that MIW are super humble and cool dudes in real life, so it wouldn't surprise me to find out that they chose to get the best possible recording of the music, without doing anything extra to make it sound like the crowd was going nuts. I do agree that the crowd looked a little sluggish though, but there were definitely still some people who looked pretty into it.
Well to me the only thing majorly off here is the lead guitar. The drummer is faltering a bit but keeping it together. The vocals aren't *noticeably* off key. He just sounds tired. No need for auto-tune, just a rest haha
i seen them live in September...and chris voice was amazing...being there is totally different then watching them on youtube...seems like on youtube they bring the vocal volume up higher then the bands playing...they murdered the show i was at...and everyone was involved...not standing around like a bunch of boring ppl...ahaha!!

I saw them live at Warped this past summer and they were absolutely great live! Chris's vocals were amazing. Some of you need too realize that not every vocalist is going too sound like they do on the records and touring takes a toll on their voice.
I like the rawness of this performance over the more polished stuff. You can actually tell they are playing without backing tracks or too much processing

they probably just sound worse live because, well, you try to sing good clean vocals jumping around a stage infront of thousands of people. he's probably short of breath and nervous on the stage and I would imagine that it's like 90+degrees in there... When I was doing back up vocs and bass in a band a few years back, stage presence literally kicks your ass. Trying to keep everyone hyped while still trying to sound relatively close to the album (the rough/uncut) version of the song is almost impossible. Those stage lights are beating on your face, you can't see, you can barely hear anything besides your cabinet and your frontman, you're trying to hear your lead guitar but you can't even though his cab is an inch away from yours, the venue is usually hot from body heat, or cold as the deepest part of hell because of the ac they have on to counteract the body heat. Around your third, sometimes fourth song, you feel like aquaman because of the sea of sweat you're in and you sound like him talking to fish because your body is so tired and your vocals are so loose. The eighth song and past that, you're so worn down that your adrenaline kicks in just to get you through the song and off stage. But After it's all said and done, you get you and your equipment off stage, the crowd is cheering/claping/trying to grab your junk while you are carrying a case with your instrument, an amp head on your shoulders and pulling your cabinet if you're lucky enough to have wheels, and you finally get to slow down, you realize that it's the most exciting and fun thing you will ever do in your life.
You giys dont seem to understand that performing in 100+ degree heat under all those lights and constantly screaming, and being exhausted from touring affects vocal quality, Chris is doing beautifully for his circumstances
