I met Iron Mike briefly here in Henderson, NV ---super nice guy, kind and humble. I recall seeing him on TV in 1986 and my roommate said, "Watch this, this boxer (Mike) is going to be big someday!" Again, my experience was one of a nice guy.

What makes Tyson such a great boxer, is his speed, equal power with both hands, his ability to avoid being hit by his opponent while boxing on the inside, and his ability to land a punch while on the move, so when his opponent goes to punch him back, Tyson is already gone.

I was a teenager in high school when Mike came to prominence... We always had a house party when he'd fight - was an amazing time because all the bets were on how soon he'd knock them the fuck out. He's a freaking legend.
I met Iron Mike briefly here in Henderson, NV ---super nice guy, kind and humble.
I recall seeing him on TV in 1986 and my roommate said, "Watch this, this boxer (Mike) is going to be big someday!" Again, my experience was one of a nice guy.
That rear body hook, uppercut combination was classic Tyson.

In the military we had an exercise called "iron mikes". If you look at some of his old training videos you'll see him doing lunges with a big ass log across his shoulders. We did a variation on that and it was named after him. That's how much of a beast this man was

Lots of great boxers through history. Joe Louis was heavyweight champ for 12 years - longest reign ever - and retired at 66-3. Rocky Marciano retired at 49-0. Willie Pep retired at 229-11. Sandy Saddler went 145-16. More recently, Julio Cesar Chavez finished at 107-6 after starting his career with 87 straight wins. Mayweather was great, but don't be too impressed with 50-0.

Floyd wouldn't have beat Sugar Ray, Hearns, Duran, and about 10 others I can think of off the top of my head, including De La hoya and Camacho. But it's all subjective, especially when you cross over weight classes and Eras. But at least those guys fought everyone they put in front of them and didn't duck.

Fighting Mike Tyson was like going up against a fully grown pissed off hungry tiger. You can see the fear in the eyes of his opponents while Mike looks at them like he wants to tear them apart and destroy them. He was fast, coordinated, incredibly fit, and his fists sounded like gunshots and felt like sledgehammers.
Tyson was always so much smaller than everybody else. But he was unstoppable

Mike was scary, I was a kid but love these. I remember riding my bike miles to watch and it rarely took long for the KO. He’s a beast!
I remember staying up late(time difference to Germany), for a 1 minute fight. He rarely needed more than 3 rounds, often less.

Ali is the greatest heavyweight because he had something that can't be taught, a great chin. Ali had a determination no other fighter could match. You guys talking about Floyd is embarrassing. Floyd Mayweather may have a perfect record, go back and watch his fight with Oscar De La Hoya and tell me Floyd won that fight. Even Floyd's dad said Oscar won. Plus Floyd dodged Manny Pacquiao until Pacman couldn't fight anymore. Floyd never fought anyone on the level of the greats. Name 1 opponent Floyd fought that will go down as one of the greatest fighters besides Pacquiao.

It's hard to put a little guy like Floyd in that position. The greatest has to be Heavyweight. Fighting Heavyweights is just a different game. The little guys just can't match the power.

What makes Tyson such a great boxer, is his speed, equal power with both hands, his ability to avoid being hit by his opponent while boxing on the inside, and his ability to land a punch while on the move, so when his opponent goes to punch him back, Tyson is already gone.
A body like mike, lots of explosive midsection, leg and upper body training.
Plus lots of cardio, running, skipping rope, building crazy endurance.
He’s dense and fast.
