The thing I Like about these new Solo X is they are efficient. It doesnt take crazy amounts of power for them to get loud. Seems like these days inefficiency is praised💯
Yes but in a ported enclosure you need a lot of power, at tuning frequency the cone barely moves since the port does all the work. The more power we can put to the subwoofer the more we can get from the port hence why a lot of subwoofers for ported enclosure's are made with power handling and xmax in the design. Once you wrap your head around how a ported enclosure work's then you will understand why efficiency really does not mean as much as you may think. Now if you are doing something really low power and maybe SQ then sure efficiency comes more into play.
@liftedcj7on44s well I understand that smaller enclosure(s) call for more rms pwr while having better ctrl. Bigger has less pressure, less ctrl but efficient for the lower power range and sound better for the lower freq. There's a reason sundown subs are some of the best in the game because they typically call for smaller enclosure, which is going to typically call for more pwr and a overall better tigher sound if you will.
@lieutenantmikeo5979 sundown actually calls for larger enclosures than other brands. Go look at a X series 15 vs something like a DC level 5 15 and you'll see the sundown wants more airspace.
@liftedcj7on44s i have the xv2 and xv3 they are on the smaller side lol. Obviously zv5 series and higher will call for more displacement because the rms rating is also bumped out lol
Back in the late 90s i used to fantasize about having a set of kickers. I got out of the bass game and im back in. Now im much better off financially and bought my first Kicker a couple days ago. One thing i dont understand is i noticed some hating on Kicker. I have tons of hobbies and with every hobby you have the more pricey quality stuff and the cheap stuff that will do the job. The more pricey stuff always gets hate from people that cant afford it. Thats with every hobby. Kicker is one of the OG's of bass subs. People will buy the cheapest model of kicker than complain that it blew. I didnt get the solo x i got the l7s. Way more bass than I need already. Clean bass. I used to hear people complain about kicker because apparently they have small coils. But honestly, I never hated kicker. My first set of subs were the old school kicker cvrs duel 4 ohm. Like 800 max 400 RMS. Got them in a pro box two 10". I loved those subs, they packed a punch. Rocked my rearview mirror right off my windshield. Had them hooked up to a 760w Sony explode amp. Never had issues with them. Wish I would've kept them. Ended up selling them and the box and got like 120 for them at a pawn shop they turned around and sold them for like 250 🤦🏽 Also had some kicker shallow mount subs I bout from a guy for 70 bucks, two 12" shallow mount subs. They hit pretty good on a 500w Rockford fosgate amp. Sold those too for cheap cause I needed money. I've probably had a good 12-13 different systems over the years and none of them were super high priced gear tbh. Power acoustic mofo 12s on a 6k amp Old school boss 2000 what 10"s I gave to a friend, Some jvc 12s gave to my brother When I finally build a nother system, I'm keeping it lol Looking at getting 3 American bass xmaxx 12s and an 8k taramps. One of the best bass head videos i have ever seen !! You got straight to the point , no extra boring talking , and you fast forward your video to where it counts!!
Definitely have me sold on this one. I’ve ran sound professionally for working on two decades. Changed a lot of coils during that time. Definitely haven’t seen it done so effortlessly. Well done kicker. And thank you bass heads for sharing.
The quick recone is one of the coolest ideas that Kicker has made into a reality. I'm surprised that other big names in audio haven't done it. Are there any others that do it?🤔 Thanks for the videos, Parker.👍🔊🔊
I have 2 l7 12 inch square subs, 4 l7 15inch subs and now 4 compq 15s. These subs all are amazingly powerful. People ask why do i need so many subs, i tell them sometimes i change them out with different amps to match them. I hate having equipment just sitting around collecting dust. Being a bass head is a serious habit. I still have other subs that im trying to give to those who don't want bass like me. But i need the space available. Im trying my best not to buy another sub, but the solo x just keeps calling me to buy 2 of them. Im going to rehab after this.
Excellent representation Parker 👊🏼 I do believe the woofer was fine before last torture test Sounded like the box was falling apart😢 Still, that kicker kept on Kickin’ Keep it up👊🏼
@LivinLoudwithAndy no it was definitely hurt. I've seen other videos where as soon as you start pushing the subs the spider tears on em. It tears because it is super small. A sub that weighs 70 lbs should be able to play 3500 4000 rms and not tear the spiders.... but these will. Even the resilient sounds platinum V2 which weighs about the same is advertised at being very underrated at 2500 rms
The Solo-X is the best sub on the market for SQ + SPL performance for the price. Give them 2,000 watts of clean power and they will beat anything to pieces!!!
I like how Kicker took a page out of Orion's book when it came to the quick re-cone process. - Considering that Orion has done this since the first iteration of their HCCA subs in the late 2000's. Pretty neat system, with no glue required.
I think the best past about this sub is you can take it apart examine it an put it back together regaless if its blown or not to properly monitor things
As a 40yr 12v vet,i personally never liked the sound of kicker in 80s-90s,seemed boomy,i preferred RF,M&M,mtx,petras,..sounded more realistic imo.but i really dig the concept of kickers square sub,and that replaceable cone is very cool!!!
Beatin the concrete with that 15. I’ve always liked kicker. Still have one of their old school ZX amps I’m trying to figure out how to put to use. Parker: it would be nice to know if you smelled glue and when. Also, I have a sequoia too and when my latch goes you can roll the back window down, take a long set of needle nose, place a spacer to separate the window against frame, grab the cable, and jerk it up. Edit: that re-cone was sick.
I know everyone has their preferences and world records are made from other brands, but a huge positive aspect for Kicker and these L7X's (in my opinion) is the fact that they made a bolt on recone kit which makes it easy for anyone to do their own recones while making it a lot less messier, too. So even if you're not the loudest, you can be back to bumping in less than an hour if you blow these
I ran 2 mtx 7500s in highschool all the way up til they were just beat to death and deteriorating. Almost 13yrs i had them.....i wish they would bring them back..
That was impressive from a single 15. Kicker needs to make even bigger versions of that sub. An 18 would be nice like back in the day. Also I would have drilled a hole in the panel put in a grommet and put in a pull string for that back hatch by now lol Had a 2011 kia van that the back hatch was electric only and it didn't even come with a safety manual release. Yet they put one on the gas 🤦
The recone kit for the Kicker solox 15"is $229, i have an orion hcca 15" recone kit is $339. Something to think about. But i did put over 10krms to it before it blew
I wish other companies were able to utilize a square cone. Thats one thing i don't like. Id like to see what other companies could produce as far as power handling and different available cone sizes.
Great video as usual, would love to see what caused that drop in to start rattling as I wonder if the spider landing just came loose from the basket. As per my comment on part one of this test, I'd love to get that blown recone from you and if you could sign it I'd build it into the mutant sub I have a basket and motor for.

I’d say it’s more comparable to the Sundown X
@@ParkerTheBasshead what subwoofer would you recommend as an upgrade to the ZV6 esp 15 inch?
You're going to need at least 8 to 10K RMS to blow that sub or three to five k free air to blow the Sub
3000 Watts That's All It Can Handle Man That Sub Is A Waste of Money No Way
Just tape all those cables stuck on it. So it wont rattle anymore
Never liked kicker.. blew so many back in the day jl was my go to better quality and handle more! Never like the l5 or l7 kickers but the new line seems decent still wouldn’t run em lol
