When I first saw John Ritter as Rev. Fordwick way back in the 70s, I thought what inspired casting it was. He just looked right as a young evangelical preacher.
This episode and when Elvira Drummond got ahold of the recipe were hilarious to me. That woman to be an evangelist she was not very loving or forgiving.
At the beginning of the episode, the reverend was practicing a very pious sermon, telling all sinners to repent or the would burn in hellfire. The point of this episode was for him to learn some humility and face his own hypocrisy.
