Thank you for posting this video, I really enjoyed watching it. It's so interesting to see life from the bawab's perspective and also the historical context.
The Egyptian Arabic dialect is a dialect that is very fluid, flexible, fast and deep, and as an Arab man speaking English, I was disturbed by this poor translation, because the translator here tried to translate the general meanings not the exact meaning that the characters in this documentary wanted. Unfortunately so much wisdom, depth and accuracy were lost here! Al-Jazeera must take this point into consideration. Tnx
@5:44 the translation is literally the opposite of what he said. He stated they don't let their wives work along side them, and sarcastically said 'like we going to make them sell cigarettes and soft drinks'
THANK YOU FOR YOUR NICE AND INFORMATIVE VIDEO, WHICH REFLECTS THE SOCIO CULTURAL CONDITION OF URBAN CONGESTED CITY LIKE-CAIRO. PL. KEEP IT UP, THANK YOU.
Al-Jazeera , can you please provide an investigative report on Forced labour being used in building stadium for upcoming FIFA world cup in Qatar.... I guess not because you are funded by Qatar Government
If you decided to have a look for yourself, you'd see al jazeera have done a number of reports about forced labour in connection to the world cup. They even did reports on forced labour in qatar, long before the world cup. So you might want to rethink your opinion.
ربنا يوعين الغلابة وأهل مصر 🇪🇬 الطيب!!! ربنا يقفوا معهم!!
God bless these men and their families. I have undying respect for them and their position. Respect & Love from USA.
I am an American, and I live in Cairo. This documentary was amazing and very realistic... wow... Much respect for this ...
@Commendatore I guess the same thing an American in Cairo, Georgia would do.
I love my doorman and his family
Respectful and awesome.
This is a beautiful documentary, thank you so much for filming and for making it available in English.

I agree with you, as an Egyptian, I appreciate you bringing this up.
I do the same thing in America. I am a Doorman. Peace and Blessings be Upon You 🙏. RAMADAN MUBARAK KARIM.
INDEED...
They don't make documentaries like this anymore. Now it is just mindless noise and effects. No subtlety.
Only AJE does it. Credit to them.
Amazing this guys are professional.
In San Francisco these gentlemen would not only have respect but a pretty nice wage
INDEED...
al Jazeera check the translation
I lived in Egypt in three apartments and thus three bawabs. Such lovely people indeed. The subtitle has inconsistencies, but great docu.
Oh really they aren't accurate?
@@bacon8353 nah, i noticed many mistranslations, and some stuff was left out
Muhammad AbuZaid is just here to roast every type of doorman in Egypt! He's not satisfied with anyone XD

The background music from 0:20 is in many AJE documentaries. Any idea where to find it?
Lol five minutes I can tell these guys probably replace cops very well
Just if Egypt officials were half as professional as those men.
FIRST ONE!!!!
Does anyone know where to find the movies about doormen mentioned in this?
"the boss doorman"
