Although this book is written by the same author, the story settings are somehow different. This fits the history more.

@@debbie.c I know that too, and I was agreeing that she is way older than 27 at this stage compared to the plot in Zhen Huan Zhuan. I meant the older age in this drama fits the history more.

Per the show, she’s 27. She entered the palace six months after Yongzheng ascended and he only ruled for about 12 years.
They falsely aged her up a number of years when she returned from exile so they can make it realistic that Hong Li was her long lost son.

I don't believe the title. Emperor Qianlong started his reign at the age of 24, and there's no way his mother (even though she's just a stepmom) is only 3 years older than her. Wikipedia said that Emperor Qianlong was born on September 25, 1711 and his mother of Niohuru clan, Empress Xiaoshengxian, was born on January 1, 1693.
Binge-watching, please correct the title. It's not nice to give your viewers a piece of false information just to sound more fantastic.
The series is based on a novel. I don't remember the name. There's a prequel to this series that tells of Zhen Huan's life in the palace called Empresses in the Palace/Legend of Zhen Huan. In that series, Zhen Huan was 27 as Empress Dowager. Because the Emperor extended her age by 10 years and gave her the fourth prince (Qianlong Emperor) to raise. Basically, he had given her a new identity. So in that series, they say she's 37 with her new identity, but she's actually 27. They never made her give birth to 4th prince in the series.

Her actual age is 27 but her husband changed her age to 37 due some can't said reason so she can adopt a son.
1. that she is 27 is likely a mistranslation
2. a lot of comments are saying zhenhuan didnt have a son. they make it clear int he drama that hongli was her adopted son
1. The title must be referring to another show "Zhen huan zhuan". When the main character, Zhen huan became dowager at around 27.
2. In that same show, Zhen huan did have a son. But that show is not historically accurate.
But in record Hong Li was her son in tv series they dramatise anyway we cant travel back in time to find out so have to leave it to our imagination
@@maytan1622 Yea, in the show Hong Li was her adopted son and she had 3 biological children. In real life, she only had 1 son. And she was not favoured until Kangxi took interest in Hongli.

1. just recently learned Liulianzi actually made 2 versions of "Ruyi _zhuan_ ": the original novel & a novelized version of the drama (one part of which explains how Hailan killed 2nd prince Yong'lian + Hailan guilt-tripping Consort Chun to back off during Empress Xiaoxian's funeral)
2. the actual setting of "Zhen Huan _zhuan_ " was actually a fictitious dynasty/state/kingdom, where:
2.a. the name of the state/kingdom was also the surname of the ruling house (both members born in it as well as the females married as the legal wives; I relied on the Korean translation snippets, so it's either Zhou or Zhu)
2.b. the harem has 16 ranks, and had sumptuary laws applied to it (one's rank dictated what type of clothes & accessories you wore)
2.c. princesses only received their "princess name" on marriage, so for instance Wen'yi (Cao Qinmao's daughter) & Long'yue (Zhen Huan's eldest) aren't their actual names
2.d. people in the novel reference quite modern literature and even games, unlike the actual practice of the Ancient Chinese by quoting from ancient history & literature (done by Zhen Huan to demonstrate her intelligence, and in "Ruyi" used by Yongqi thru off-cam prodding by Hailan)
3. Liulianzi made cameos on both dramas
3.1. in "Zhen Huan" she was present in the Beauty Selection (she wore a turquoise blue _qipao_ in ep. 1)
3.2. in "Ruyi" she's Qianlong's aunt-in-law who revelead Consort Jia's backdoor dealings with the imperial clan members & allied ministers towards her ambitions of placing her son 4th prince Yongcheng as Crown Prince. Reportedly she had more scenes shot, but only her audience with Qianlong was approved in the final cut

I heard they were targeting around 100 episodes for Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace but had to cut it down to 86 (I believe it's 86). So much I heard about the ending being different (not just the part were Ruyi's actress changed her death, but also it was meant to appear another consort very similar to ruyi and they cut that out?)
I really loved this drama, I have watched and rewatched it many times and I love the cinematography. The hair cutting scene is still my favourite and the one with the most impact (in my opinion).

2. in the novel:
2.a. after Ruyi's "haircut", Wei Yan'wan came by Yikun'gong Palace and all but rubbed it in her face. Ruyi then committed šụıćįđę so that Wei Yan'wan would have suspicion all over her since she was Ruyi's "last visitor" (I bet Rongpei was not only in it, but followed her mistress, as with the drama). Zhou Xun (succesfully) begged the director to change the ending because the șüıçîdę part alone was OOC even for Ruyi
2.b. Consort Wan then told off Qianlong about Wei Yan'wan mis-educating her son 15th prince Yong'yan. Jingse doing it IMO was completely OOC for her, even her mourning Yongqi when everyone knows Yongi was immediately identified with Ruyi
2.c. Consort Ying headlined the downfall of Wei Yan'wan, not Consort Yu
2.d. during the 9 years not shown in the drama, Hailan encounters a palace servant, and noting how she's practically Ruyi 3.0 (Wei Yan'wan was bargain bin Ruyi 2.0), plots with Xiangjian to pimp her to Qianlong (aka "Zhen Huan"'s Caiping 2.0). Of course it worked, and Qianlong conferred on her the title of Consort Dun (there was indeed a Consort Dun in "Ruyi", but she's completely sidelined). A completely inebriated & shroom-high Wei Yan'wan keeps saying Ruyi is up and alive when all she sees is Consort Dun (hence making sense of Dowager Empress Chongqing's line of "That Imperial Noble Consort (Wei Yan'wan) has completely become insane"), and that was part of Hailan & Xiangjian's plan. Later on Qianlong allows Consort Dun residence of Yikun'gong Palace (which was actually accurate, as historically Consort Dun was indeed the next owner...and the last would be Consort Wan)
3. I agree, "Ruyi"'s "haircut" was much more poignant, unlike say "Yanxi" & "Huanzhu _gege_ "
FYI: the actress portraying Step Empress in "Huanzhu _gege_ " Dai Chun'rong acted as Step Empress's mother Lady Langgiya in "Yanxi"
