"Punched in the nose" brings to mind a D&D session from last month. We had moved in to protect a merchant whose wagon was being looted by rioters. The kobold monk says, "I'm kicking the one guy in the butt to knock him out against the wagon. Nat 20 crit. Our DM: "So are you dealing non-lethal damage, or would you like to kill this man by kicking him in the ass?"

Normally I hate military bases stories due to their piss poor understanding of how the military works, but this one was, dare I say it, almost like the writter took the time to do a little research on the subject before writting.

@@Conquerorsmindset Well, it's more that there is really nothing truly creepy about this. The story basically tells the narrator's early life on the frontier and his relationship with religion. Then he fights in the war of 1812 and its basically a military journal, with a perspective change at the end where there is a deserter who is rallying people to a small fort preaching about the end of the world. So nothing scary happens, nothing supernatural or mundane horror
