    • @markdolman4954
      @markdolman4954 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Graham I used to drive a transit with a double axle trailer, when it had a good amount of weight on it responded differently to when empty, I found the transit hard to reverse with, I then got a open back land rover and found it was a lot better to use .

    Good to see The up built Team is back to 100!% :) I was wondering, are you going to use a flip front on the Mini, or is it because the front that has to come on, is completly new anyway? Are you sandblasting and put primer on this front + left and right wing before spotwelding it to the mini? I Just finished all the welding on my Mini MK4 and know how much work it al takes. Good to see you don't make concessions due to the fakt that your almost there to sandblast and prime it, but take all the effort to get a "real" mk1! Looking forward for the next episode! • @upbuild4397
      @upbuild4397  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. The mk3 has an extra lip on the front edge of the bonnet to hold the chrome piece for the mk3 grill and the hinges are in a different location on a mk3 but if you don’t mind a little bit of work a mk3 bonnet could be fairly easily converted to fit a mk1.

    Can I ask a question? Is there a benefit to using the epoxy primer over a weld through primer?

    • @upbuild4397
      @upbuild4397  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, the weld through/ Zinc primer is mainly used when welding, if you’re going to need to weld that area, the weld through primer helps with the smooth welding and not to much spatter due to the Zinc content. The Epoxy primer is used to seal the area beneath, the Epoxy primer is not porous, so prevents the water or dampness getting through to the metal.
      Does that make sense?
      Hope this helps.

    I've been wondering for the last few episodes whether a full roof transplant from the rotten Mk 1 shell would have been any easier? If you'd come a few inches down each pillar, you'd have saved yourself all the trouble of shrinking the door and window gaps etc.

    • @upbuild4397
      @upbuild4397  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. That would definitely save a lot of fabricating the sections to lower the roofline but the whole of the side panel is different on a mk1/mk2 Mini including the A and B pillars and the quarter panel is also longer. Probably the thing to do would be to unpick the whole side panel of the mk1/mk2 Mini as I’ve done with the cant rails and replace the mk4 side panel with this. This project was started long before we acquired the mk1 shell.
      Hope this makes sense.
      Cheers
      Mark

  • @stevewhaley997
    @stevewhaley997 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do,nt forget the rear seat panel, it would be a shame not to make the shell as near to the MK1 that you can, after all your hard work on the rest of the shell, having a seat panel in the spare shell should make it easy.. Anyone in the know will just open the boot lid and be able to tell it,s not a original MK 1. Steve
