Managed to con my way into the afternoon sound check, before The Stranglers went on stage later that night, at Sheffield Poly c 1983. Got chatting to the band & they were all great, but one of them(Dave), spent much more time with us. We had our own fledgling Punk band & were wearing our band tshirts. Dave said he liked them & could he have one & promised to wear it the next night at their gig in Leeds. Sure enough he came on stage the next night & wore the tshirt the whole gig!!. What a sound guy Dave was, never forget him. RIP a very special individual. Fly straight Dave.
Rip. I’m an American fan since 2003. When I discovered them. Wish I could have seen them at their prime. And at least once here in the US. I. only seen Hugh Cornell live in NY 11 years ago. Rip Dave
Hé IS thé best keyboard player Britain ever produced....in my opinion, THE BEST EVER in the World. And what an interesting, mysterious person too. Fly Straight, Dave, with perfection. 🖤
did you ever hear/see keith emerson? i wouldn't compare them and wouldn't say someone is the best. a bit like comparing rafael nadal to diego maradona.
Met Dave after a gig in sligo a few years ago. Had a beer and a great chat. He was a lovely guy no hint of I’m a big star who are you to be talking to me.I will really miss him as I have been a strangler from the start.don’t know how I feel about the band going on without him
It was Dave's keyboards that got my attention...I became good friends of the band in 79 in Australia and had good times with them in particular Dave and Hugh...There was only one Dave Greenfield..R.I.P. Mate..🙏
Always been a strangler fan Dave Greenfield very underrated keyboard player deserve more credit, just as good as Rick Wightman , that’s what got me hooked on the Stranglers keyboard and the bass great band.
As a big fan of The Stranglers and Dave Greenfield, a huge like to this video!!! 👏👏👏👏 And if someone is interested in piano covers of The Stranglers I offer two: Waltzinblack and Strange Little Girl
A proper tribute to, in my opinion 'The greatest and most melodic instrumentalist of the last 50 years'. He is up there with Jon Lord, Rick Wright, Rick Wakeman, Ray Manzarek, etc but it might take people a few years to realise just how good he was. I cried my eyes out when I heard which just goes to show how much this 55 year old man felt for this band and musician, my first musical love. The Stranglers were the main thing that stopped my teenage years from being dull and depressing. R.I.P Dave you were the best and one day everyone will know it.
They are my favourite band too, since I was a kid. When I heard of his passing, I was litterally depressed for two weeks solid...I felt like I'd lost someone really close, like a member of the family. And now Jets gone too. I loved him too, but it was Dave going that hit thé hardest.
Ofc of fkn course he was a genius sure there were no sounds like his for decades after hearing their first LP I wanted to be their roadie just so I could get closer and know what kbd & tech he used. (would ye look at JeanJacques giving it loads in Golden brown clip lol)
I love the strangler and the jam, but also like the clash and the damned and the Sex Pistols these were my favourite bands in the 70s. Thank you for watching.
Yes it was. He was in Addenbrooks having heart surgery and caught covid right there. There was no way he could survive that in his weakened contition and the pneumonia it caused killed him.

Every time I get reminded Dave is gone it comes as an unpleasant shock.
A year later still cuts to the bone
A truly gifted musician with awesome keyboard skills, sadly missed along with Jet Black.
When you're a rock genius your sound is immediately recognisable.
To hear Dave was to know what a rock genius sounds like.
R.l.P. Dave Greenfield

The band don't exist anymore as far as I'm concerned
I wondered how they could do it but have a listen to this, it's absolutely brilliant!

Dave is a massive hero to me, a brilliant musician who stuck to what he knew. And perfected it.
Genius. RIP.💕
Shook Dave's hand at a Copenhagen concert in the 90s. Gone, but not forgotten. Dave G. forever!

So underrated great keyboard player not given the accolades he deserves, The giant among men.

The greatest musician this country ever prodduced. We will never hear his like again.
The stranglers and the jam the only bands to come out of the punk era with any credit
