‘I’m really sorry' says Travis Pastrana after jump from Fort Lauderdale hotel lands him in hospital

- A stuntman who landed himself in the hospital is speaking out after something went wrong during a stunt above a South Florida city.
The reason he apologized is, because he said, he doesn't want to give other base jumpers a bad reputation/image. When people get hurt, it makes the sport look bad. He is paying his respects to the other professionals.

@@yamkaw346 “Unfortunately made a couple wrong decisions which made a very simple base jump difficult.” He probably could’ve made better decisions while he was floating down so he would be better lined up for a safer landing than what happened is what he’s saying.
@@yamkaw346 it makes sense to base jumpers. In base you have a very small window sometimes for setting up your intended landing point. He unintentionally ended up in a spot they gave him only 2 choices. Land in the trees or try to complete a low turn. He chose to turn and hit the ground.
In BASE you end up under a parachute a lot lower to the ground than in skydiving so anything from taking too long of a freefall to pilot error to unexpected winds, etc can put you in a position under parachute that leads to limited options when it comes to landing.
Mistakes were made. Could have been worse. Glad he will be ok.
Exactly as explained already. I have over 2500 skydives and used to do demonstration jumps into football fields etc. He didn't setup his landing correctly so had to do a 180 degree hook turn which more than doubled his decent rate with not enough altitude to flare out the canopy to slow it back down.
Just take it steady Travis, remember the human body isn't as tough as we all think it is!

@@pdtech4524 I've had almost 40 spinal surgeries, have a prosthetic leg 🦿 almost as much metal in me as bone and was told I'd spend most of my life in a wheelchair, yet I still mountain bike and used to race, I still ride fixed gear bikes, sail, ride quads and dirt bikes, work on and race cars, I've broken my fair share of bones but only because I push myself far beyond what any sane, normal person would.

When I was growing up, I saw the pain my cousin was in when he broke his leg, I saw how long it took him to heal and be able to walk again without crutches! It certainly made me more aware of how fragile we are and be more aware of being careful.
Feel very lucky I've never broke a bone yet, even after a decade of riding motorbikes and had a crash, luckily nothing more than a few bruises and cut finger, probably would have lost my finger if it wasn't for my brand new thick heavy duty gloves I just started wearing literally the day before! 😲😁

Travis pastrana is a legend. He was the catalyst that changed freestyle motocross forever. I'll never forget seeing him backflip a dirt bike for the first time. He had parents that tried to stop him, but greatness can't be contained.
Travis has had so many injuries its insane. A legend one in a lifetime.
First time I saw him was on the news when he came up short on a triple riding a 125. Everybody was making it on their 250s but Pastrana broke his back, separating his back from his hips. LEGEND

@@edwardmilano4610 my hunting buddy can sit in his stand for about 2 hours then he’s laid up for 3 days. He’s had 3 surgeries each one they guarantee he won’t be in constant pain but it’s gotten worse he can’t even stand to shower anymore.

@@dirtyyomar they won’t even give him pain meds. After his last surgery they gave him ibuprofen 800 and sent him on his way after a day in recovery. He took a drug test at his DR’s and because he had THC in his system he can never get pain meds. And he was barely taking his pain meds to begin with. He uses a brace has to have it on to even just sit on the couch to support his weight.

He said he turned to low and was left with the choice of open area or trees. He said he now thinks the trees would be a better choice.
He essentially ran out of room to line up his landing. That is parts of jumping from so low. It takes time to open a shoot and he looks like he hit a gust on deployment. Maybe pushing him enough off course to botch his landing.
