New Age/occult is attractive to them because none of it has to do with submission to anything or Anyone. It's all about the Self. Fallen humanity all day long.

I agree that 50 years ago to go to church was cultural. We went every Sunday but acted no different the rest of the week. We didn’t see a Bible in the house as kids. For us kids it was a place to get crayons and gum to keep us quiet. But when I attended vacation Bible school and Mrs. Keakley showed me a picture of Jesus and told me he was my best friend I never forgot that. Today at 58 I have a relationship with my Savior. That little seed was planted back then. Now I tell my grandsons about Him and they have a lot of great questions.

responsibility when their kids don't know God or have a relationship with Him.

I toowas scared some other Christians would have told me something bad about it, but I'm glad no one said anything bad or that it was demonic. Because it's not. It actually might even be a blessing. Because God can use even my autism in serving Him and for His purposes.
I'm sorry some christians think that and do / say terribile things to people who have a disorder or mental disability, etc.

I have trouble believing that "Christians" who behave that way really know their Bibles. You only have to read the book of Job to see that his 3 friends spent most of their time telling him that his misfortune was a punishment from God and that Job must have done something wrong to deserve it. However , in the end God tells these guys to make restitution for misrepresenting him. Jesus also has plenty to say to the religious leaders of his day for their unloving and fault-finding ways.

    Interesting.
I’ve been noticing a huge inclusion of witchcraft, mediums, ghosts in kids shows and even educational resources. I started homeschooling and this was one of the reasons. I didn’t want to over act but it seems children are playing “casting spells” and other supernatural pretend games a lot more than they used to. Then the schools were reading them so many strange, supernatural and occult themed books (not to mention the lgbtq representation). Anyways, it seems planned and orchestrated.

Yeah, I recently watched "The Owl House" and must say, I quite enjoyed it. In terms of plotline, it was a great television series. And I would get lost in the lore (because it wasn't just post-modern deconstructionism and being meta humor, as with other shows like "Velma"). But the show does have serious issues with positively portraying witchcraft and occultism as something positive. And main villain (Emperor Belos) is essentially a metaphor for the Christian God and Christianity. There was also the lgbt sexuality and gender stuff as major themes as well. Every episode I watched I would Cross myself, say the 'Jesus Prayer' and other prayers from the Synekdemos several times, just in case...

A lot of us (Boomer/GenX) played with Ouija boards and occult type games, not realizing the danger.
When our kids started to explore that stuff, a few people said, "It's just a phase. We did it, and we're okay."
But I couldn't let that sit. I researched it, realized that it is NOT harmless, and talked with me kids to show them why it's against God's will for us.
I repented and renounced my participation in those activities, and shared what I learned with others.
      Some listened, some scoffed.
Things are bad enough, without opening doors to the enemy.

I don't think there's any argument that there have always been Christians in name only. You can read about it in the Bible in books like 1 Peter & Jude. For some people (not all), church was a social club. I grew up in church, but my parents also taught the same things & read the Bible at home. I think that even though not everyone going to church was a believer, society as a whole was much better because even nonbelievers predominantly followed traditional Judeo-Christian values that they learned in church & at one time even in schools. Now that it's become socially acceptable to reject those values, we're seeing society very quickly going the way of Sodom & Gomorrah.

When you’re desperate and in pain, a “quick fix” can feel like it helps you, but you have no idea of the disaster it can lead to later down the road. God tells us not to seek psychics and mediums because he knows that demonic forces use them to deceive and mislead people. He is not saying it to ruin our fun but to protect us. Please, those reading, seek Jesus who truly loves you, who became human to suffer all the same pains and torments you feel, who died to save you. Seek the Truth, not comforting lies.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, Melissa 🙂
My experience of leaving the church at age 18 was a little different. (This is a long comment.)
My parents looked & dressed different to 'normal' churchgoers so were considered strange & rebellious for that reason. They were youth pastors, so looking 'cool' was understandable. But I was teased because my dress style was different to my family, so I always felt like an outsider.
The crunch for me came when my Christian friends slandered me because the Pastor accused me of having a Jezebel spirit (because I was pushing against him trying to push me down during prayer out the front). Rumors of me being a lesbian circulated & I lost my friends & was ostracised at church & youth outings.
I was treated as if I was overreacting when I asked for help & nobody confronted the situation or defended me. So I left.
My hurt was also toward God because I expected Him to defend & protect me & it didn't happen.
I still loved Jesus. Still loved The One True God. But I felt betrayed. For 5 years I hid from God & was a target for the adversary, but God never abandoned me or let go of me.
Please! Christian parents, defend your kids! Pray for them! Answer their questions by asking The Holy Spirit to show you what to say if you don't know! Our kids are being defeated in this culture. The battle is real. Please don't let our precious children become casualties for our mistakes!
And if you don't really love & want to follow God for Who He is, repent or stop calling yourself a Christian. Please.

I'm so sorry that happened to you as a child!!!..But the Lord didn't want it to happen!! Someone should have defended you, and confronted the "faking it" pastor who was trying to push you down!! The real Holy Spirit doesn't need man's "fleshly forcing", to help him along the way!! For; "..the Spirit gives life..The flesh profits nothing." (Jn 6:63..) Also: regarding your lack of defense; (1 Cor. 5: 12-13) .."do not ye judge them, that are 'within'??..But them that are 'without' God judgeth..Therefore (you Church), put away from yourselves that wicked person.." The point here being; God has made it the Churches' responsibility to handle the problems "within"..And that just didn't happen "for you," it appears..( regarding the slanderous pastor and peers..) I'm so sorry that you were so hurt!!..but I hope you are healing and knowing that the Lord did not fail to defend you, per his plan, ..BUT 'irresponsible people did!!' I hope you can also know God's tender heart (for you ), was just grieving; as this transpired..and I hope you can somehow forgive people's failings, and just keep going forward with God!! Because his healing love surely never fails!!! You are greatly and tenderly loved of the Lord!!! ( & May all parents and Churches do their parts in God's plan, in defending the 'innocent young', in their care!! ..) In the love of Christ our Lord, may we " LOVE, ONE ANOTHER"..is my heart's prayer..

After a cultural shift that meant that you could still be respectable without going to church, all the people who only cared about respectability left, while the people who cared about Jesus stayed. The number of actual Christians (rather than nominal ones) stayed the same.

Even in the Middle Ages with the Catholic church over everything (not Catholic, but the point is that people believed Jesus existed, etc.), you still had raunchy literature and corruption alongside regular prayers and Bible references. Christianity, when the majority accept it, can be easily treated casually and as a cultural item without real belief.

I live in a rural area where "church" is still considered a sign of respectability. But the few.local congregations are more like Sunday morning gossip/gab social clubs. Even Bible studies are watered down and deteriorate to thinly veiled gossip sessions.
It's important to develop relationships with, and stay connected to, Bible believing neighbors. Bible studies, gatherings, mutual support without an edifice, but still serving the Lord and edifying the Body.

One huge thing I've been wrestling with the last few years is how to approach certain current issues with love but without compromising the truth. I don't want to "hide" my beliefs when I'm with people of other worldviews, but I'm afraid that no matter what I say, it will be perceived as "hate", etc. Certain quarters have done a very good job of misrepresenting the Christian position on certain issues. I do think some of that is intentional. I also think there are many other people who sincerely have a misconception of what Christianity is about, partly because of the misrepresentation of Christianity they see in the media. And I also completely agree that Christians can and do do a lot of damage in "weaponizing" Christianity, like what that guy said in the video. More of us need to learn how to love while also be uncompromising with what the Bible says.

The truth will always offend. And the Gospel will always be hated (on a large scale). So don't worry how others perceive it. If they want to misunderstand you, they will misunderstand you. Keep speaking the truth, boldly. Not with aggression, not with contempt but keep saying it anyway. That is love. See, this is the thing: people today do not understand what the word "love" means anymore. They think it means to be "nice" and "kind"...and all they want to hear/speak about is God's "lovey-dovey" type of love. But that's not the truth. God is Awesome. God is Jealous. He tears down and He destroys. He does not walk on eggshells because of us. He tears us down and He bind our wounds. That is love, my friend. And our duty is to be ambassadors of God- to represent His interests. God and His Law comes first, humans do come second. Will people hate us for it? Absolutely! Then again, they would hate anybody who bursts their fantasy bubbles (whatever they may be). So don't worry what "certain quarters" have done or what they label you like. Keep speaking the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Above all, keep the Law of God in its entirety, no matter what comes in the future (soon it's going to turn real nasty for the true believers). Prepare yourself and hold on tight to the His commandments, precepts and ordinances.

I've not heard of the term, "New Thought."
"Progressive Christianity" is a misnomer. It's not Christianity at all.
Just because someone was "raised Christian" does not mean they are regenerate. That is also key. Many people grow up going to church but are not saved at all. That's a fault of the churches and the families. Why isn't the gospel being preached in these churches?
As to all the sad stories, the first thing that must be done is verifying that these supposed bad things done by supposed Christians actually even happened. (Which I understand is often impossible to do, especially when you're just going by someone's online comment.) But we can't just blindly accept it as being fully accurate.
    28:51
"... I am my own god."
That is the heart of all of this. People want to do what they want to do, especially sexually. That's it. That's what this is all about. They reject "religion", meaning "Christianity" because they WILL NOT bow to Jesus Christ as Lord. They use whatever bad experiences they've had as an emotional manipulation tool. They know most people won't have the guts to tell them the truth, for fear of hurting their feelings. Or for fear of being told, "How dare you tell me this? Don't you see I'm a victim?!"

I don’t know what NAR/WOF stand for, but I know that many of our couple friends in their 50s and 60s have seen their children turn away from what seemed to be a faith in God. These people represent schools of all types (private, public and homeschool). One common denominator: university. They all represent evangelical churches with solid Bible teaching and parents with probably higher intelligence.
Most of us, the parents, had a born again conversion experience, and I don’t know that I could say any of the children really did-even though they seemed to exhibit a commitment to God in their childhood and much of their ten years.
My only thought is that I had to hit “Rock bottom” when I was about 15 years old, and Jesus profoundly stepped in and I handed my “mess” over to Him. Perhaps, what looks like some pretty yucky diversions, God will use to turn these people around. At least, that is what I pray!

Looking for the truth can happen in or outside your community. It bothers me that my "detractors" try to put my decision to follow Christ on weak feelings rather then on my deep concern to find the true God. In those same 7 years time, I also tried to know who I was, the truth about myself. The only "feelings" that have prevailed came when I found out in a deep way that I was a sinner. I found the Savior in that context, not knowing then that my two questions (Does God exist, if yes who is He ? Who am I really ?) were deeply connected.

Melissa, thanks for your sharing on this. I didn’t become a Christian until I was 39, even though I was an active church goer for 12 years before that. At a retreat a speaker talked about how the disciples deserted Jesus when he was crucified out of fear for their own lives. Fear is a strong feeling which I understand. Yet, 50 days later they were willing to give their lives going to the ends of the earth to share Jesus. What could make that kind of difference in such a short time? Seeing a dead man come to life and being filled with his Spirit. God was effectively saying to me, “Dan, you’ve been playing church for 12 years, sitting on the fence. It’s time to make a choice. You either believe the resurrection of Jesus or you reject it. And, if you accept that as true, the rest of God’s story is part of the package. It’s all true or it’s not.” After a month of struggle, I chose to believe and my life changed. I’m now 78, married to my lovely wife for 56 years, and I wouldn’t change a thing. Keep up the good work from a fellow New Mexican (Corrales).

As one of those, "bad guy" Christians who loves the Lord, wants to live for Him, and believes the Bible as literal, I agree with you. I had never heard about the idea of "new thought" before. This topic is extremely important to me as I have 1, maybe 2 children that fall under the Gen Z category, I am so glad I watched your video this morning and became enlightened to Gen Z, new thought, and the whole issue of gen z looking to mediums for mental health. My heart goes out to all those who, like you, grew up in the church and had horrible treatment from those who should have known better. I did not grow up in the church, but can still relate. (I grew up in a Catholic home, a long story, too long for today.) I also know the stigma in the "Church" regarding mental health. I have struggled with a form of clinical depression myself. It was that "stigma" that kept me from seeking help. The Lord has graciously helped me through the help of my own pastor who himself had a debilitating experience with clinical depression and spoke out about it. It was because of his message on it that gave me the motivation to get help. I do not know that I would have had my pastor not shared his experience. I wish I had more time to share, but gotta go now. Again, thanks for being a faithful "bad guy" of our Lord and Savior. To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

The Churches need to put more time into the Youth groups!

    • @Yesica1993
      @Yesica1993 ปีที่แล้ว +7

No, PARENTS need to put more time into their children! That's part of the problem. Parents don't train their kids, especially when they get to those difficult pre-teen and teen years. Parenting little kids is easy. They just accept whatever you tell them. Then they get older and start thinking more for themselves and having more difficult questions than the parents want to deal with. They expect Youth Group to do the bulk of their parenting for them.
Also, many Christian parents dump their kids in government schools. Those children spend (at least) 12 of their most impressionable years being taught and being shown a way of life where the biblical worldview is either ignored or denied. Parents bring them to "youth group" once a week and expect strangers to undo in an hour or an evening or a few days in a retreat all the damage that's been done to them for at least 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, for 12 years. And that's just the formal stuff. That's not even counting the endless screen time / social media time where they are poisoned by the culture.
      tl;dr
      Parents need to PARENT!

I agree, we have so many raven parents, time spent between Gen Z and parents is needed. I think Gen Z also avoids talks with parents because it always feels like counseling sessions and so on

@@Yesica1993Everything you wrote is 💯. I believe the onslaught of LBGT in schools, TV, etc., is seriously waking parents up that they need to parent all the time and not get lazy, especially expecting the youth pastor and kids in youth group to make up for their parental laziness.

Melissa, thank you for this video. I experience chronic pain - and came across some videos about “retraining the brain to relax & treat chronic pain”. I was a bit suspicious listening to it. But listened to 2 videos. Then I got curious about what was behind his mindfulness meditation videos for chronic pain - I looked him up and he has practiced vassapanura yoga meditation plus lots of other forms. I’ll never watch him again. Your main point about a) Christians should meditate on God & his word; and b) new age meditation is focused on “the self”. Thank goodness I found out. Thank you, once again

Thank you for your compassionate approach to this topic. People are searching for hope, craving peace and joy in their lives and the instant gratification of "psychic" answers has a very real and very strong pull! This is the time for us to dig deep with the Lord, pray for our world and be available for the Holy Spirit to lead us in bringing HIS peace and comfort to this generation. And also thank you for bringing up the Ravi Zacharias topic and people walking away from Christianity due to leaders acting in sinful ways. I am SO thankful that my parents, my dad in particular, emphasized that we can ONLY put our whole trust in God because men fail. Leaders fall and are not perfect. God is perfect.

It’s difficult not to crave answers seek that sort of help so I tell myself my peace lies in the fact my uncles and best friend are not on this earth enduring so pain hatred and confusion but in Heaven with no more tears or pain.

My pastor taught me that praying while reading the Bible and listening to what God has to say, asking for forgiveness, to be led to repentance, and thanking God for the Grace He affords us especially when we come across confrontational content in the Bible is how we have a relationship with God. I prayed for that Gen Z commenter you mentioned and it is my sincere and earnest prayer that this might help others to seek a relationship with God in Jesus' name Amen

I get this. Years ago my husband and I went to a church that wasn’t very big but they believed in somewhat of the prosperity gospel and that our words have power to give life or death, to create the life we want. I know it was God because both my husband and I started feeling like we should stop going. We did. But didn’t go to church for awhile. As we started learning about the true Gospel and finding real Christians like you and others we were shocked as to how we could believe those things. (Well, we never read our bibles so that’s not too shocking I guess) But the last few years I’ve been struggling in my faith and afraid to believe the wrong thing again. I’m trying to learn the real gospel and I’m so thankful for your channel. It’s helped me SO much. I do worry about my 9 year old son so much though. If I have all these questions how in the world am I going to help him! I just pray for all these lost and confused people as I am there some days as well. I just pray God leads the way. ❤ Thank you!

I love what you said about letting your pain inform your wrong beliefs. I did that. I created a concept of who God was based on childhood abuse. It was so.very.wrong. God was not near, not loving, not kind. He didn’t really LOVE me. He loved me only because of Jesus.. He didn’t love me “while I was yet a sinner.” And furthermore, my pain informed me of a wrong view of WHO I am- I was my own savior. I HAD to be perfect, because shame was mixed with failure… shame from my abuse. And since I had to be perfect… I couldn’t admit I was a sinner.. and I couldn’t repent..
Experience and feelings are the wrong barometer for truth. Praise God for the hound of Heaven who pursued me in my blindness ❤️

The thought process is called the ABC's of life. Anything but Christ. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the father except him. The path to life is narrow and few find it, and the road to destruction is wide and many follow it.

You don’t “leave” Christianity anymore than you can be “born into it.” It’s a radical change of heart and mind. Children aren’t born Christian. They aren’t seeking. The Bible declares people reject G-d because they love sin more. If these generations are in any way a picture of mental health, all is lost.

19:50 Definitely agree with this. I’m glad you brought up the difference between biblical Christians and Christians in name because of family or whatever. I actually think it’s good that this difference is beginning to show. I think it’s often harder to reach people who have no interest in loving God but think they’re ok because of their parents or culture.

The most troubling aspect of this whole thing is, where are these pychics getting their their information from? When one goes to a psychic, seer, etc. . . they are opening the door into the of the dark side of the spirit world. They are very vunerable and in danger of being led down the path of evil under the guise of help and understanding.

Thank you so much, Melissa, for these videos. This one was so informative and explained new thought very well. It helps me to think Biblically. And to have grace, so much grace. I notice that my old self/legalistic self (partly due to the way I was raised) tends to go the ‘BUT THATS SIN’ route… and there is a place for that, (although never in all caps ;)) I want to be full of grace and love and truth. And keep holding on to that truth!!
The part about the girl saying ‘I am my own god, never again am I going to let anyone hurt me or abuse me’ really hit home. Someone close to me is going through that too: leaving Jesus for new age/new thought beliefs…

It breaks my heart to see their very real hurt and past abuse and their very wrong choices of "other than Jesus". May we all grow in grace and in passion to point others to His healing. I was raised rather legalistically too - not much room to walk alongside others and help them, just push them down as we pretend we're better (all while not living scripture).

Melissa, you made an excellent point, about loving God and going through the motions. This mirrors Cain and Abel to a tee. Abel loved God and understood who God was and made his offering to the Lord knowing, he has what he has because of God. Cain on the other hand. Was more interested in his own desires. And wasn't thankful for what he has was given to him by God. He didn't understand why God didn't accept him. God explained to him how to be accepted. He wanted no part of it. His desire for his own pleasure was greater than his desire for God.
