Man I just looooove the look of these V40s.. Deciding between a V50 and a V40… No clue what to do V40 would be a 2.0t or the T4.. and Volvo the 2.4 or T5 if the budget is there..
yeah, there are even models that can do 6.4/6.7 to 100 every other car brand (except 3germans) can do that just few years (every1 in vw ids think they are though) but still , this car looks better than any german car, e46m3 e39m5 are also good looking cars, for the rest all cars are almost stupid, even new volvos (yeah they start to like volvos while its not real Volvo anymore) 7sec in a Volvo S40 t4 you are a real pathetic driver, i remember those days my cousin did 4-5sec too 100 (just very little bit clutch) he broke every amg and porsche (even 5years newer)
I had s40 2.0i, Now i bought v40 T4. Fucking love it. Such a reliable, powerfull and good looking car with very good equipment. Volvo S/V40 is good choice for everyone.
Had a V40 Diesel (95HP) and drove it 110k KM in the first year. Perfect car, only had regular maintenance and nothing else. Once had a T4 as a loaner but the power in the lower RPM was quite low compared to the Diesel.
Nice Swedish car! I wonder then there’s going to be a turbo Saab, since they are easily tuneable as well (and one of you has a lot of history with them). I recommend the B204 and B234 (Euro 2) engines since they are so strong
Can you make a review on the Renault Espace 5 ? It has 225hp for the version who has the same engine that the Alpine A110 and the Mégane 4rs 0-100 km/h = 7,5 seconde It has the 4 driving wheels (they turn) (no the 4x4). It has a very good frame !! 👍

Wow i havent seen one of these in a LONG time. It was quite an interesting machine when it came out. Turbo cars werent all that common in this segment, you had basically Saab and Volvo competing with the Germans 6 cylinder NA motors and doing very well. Even back then with some tuning these T4s could compete with the E36 M3s in certain scenarios and it was quite incredible to see a car with a engine smaller than 2.0L give a 3.2L 6 cylinder car that cost significantly more a real fright in a straight line.
@@MyRealName I see the joke, but if anyone wonders: In a straight line is what he is referring to. But they are not that heavy (a lot lighter than an M3) so they can be made to be pretty competent budget track cars as well.

These did 0-60 in just over 7 secs, even my old E36 328i was faster, when it was standard with 193bhp. It might have a smaller engine but it was turbocharged, and the E36 328i (and M3) were n/a ....
@@Giuseppe80271 yes the 1.9t is an actual Volvo engine and it is very reliable IF well maintained. I visited one for sale not very long ago and it sounded like a tractor and had almost no oil in the engine. That said, any engine not taken care of will die. And a Volvo rarely needs anything but the occasional oil and belt change. The 1.9 T4 has thicker cylinder walls than the 2.0 T4 and is therefore theoretically more durable and can for sure endure extreme tunings better. It’s also faster than the 2.0. Then you also have the non T4 2.0 turbo engine. Comes with 163HP. I have that one with a k&n open air filter. Feels a lot quicker, basically the same as the 1.9 in this video. Maybe the 1.9 had some small problems like misfire.
After i sold my 340ix touring i bought a old V40 like this as a temporary cheap car. Didnt expect to see it om auto top nl tho 😂 mine is only 1.6 and slow as shit tho 😂

Im telling you guys, older cars are where it's at. I recently sold my 2008 230bhp Volvo S40 T5 (the successor to this car) simply because it was SOULLESS...even with the 5 cylinder turbo. Cars by that era had reached a point where everything was TOO vague, Too disconnected, TOO computerised. Instead, I replaced it with a 170bhp 1999 Volvo V70 2.4 N/A auto....and I'm doing tasks on it like replacing the shifter bulb, bringing a window switch back to life using electrical contact cleaner.... fitting HALOGEN bulbs....looking at a simple calculator style display for MPG and milege etc... No actual screens anywhere... Treble, Bass and Fader SLIDERS on the stereo.... All of those things that have no become a menu in a touch screen on modern cars... I'm telling you.. go and buy an older car and rejoyce at having a car that feels more analogoue.
It's fun u say that. I own the N/A 2.4 of the same car, tuned to 180 bhp. It's really good and really comfortable. But, as a car person, I find myself looking around at something older rather then newer.
Too vague??? So you replaced it with a car that's even vaguer less steering response, less suspension response, less throttle response and more. Literally ever single thing in v70 is more disconnected and vague than in newer s40. If you didn't know 1999 v70 is full of computers too ELECTRIC throttle body, tracs, abs and many more electronics. And those radio sliders can be adjusted way better via screen and it can be put in the main menu.
@@dkdanis1340 Yes... there is something about the MK2 S40 (and V50/C30/C70) that is VERY disconnected... even compared to older Volvos. I have owned four of the Ford Chassis Volvos and they feel completely numb to drive, and the body roll on a stock S40 T5 is a joke compared to P2 S60 or V70. They lack the full feeling of a real Volvo and feel very generic, kinda of like a VW Golf. Yes I know the 1999 cars have electronics in them, but those P80 cars have noticably less modules compared to P2 or P1 volvos. Also, the 2.4 Naturally Aspirated engine in my V70 is obviously going to be more responsive than a turbocharged 2.5 low pressure turbo in the S40 T5.
I kinda hear you. But I love my tuned V50 T5. It’s one of a kind. Fairly happy with it. But most enhancements I did was on my V40 turbo. They can be tuned so easily. Love that

Volvo makes cars for mature adults and mans, if they made this car 2.5-3liter with 400-500hp the world (and now a days those wiseguys and little children that drive rs's) would not know any other car, they think ///M's and rs's are the fastest, not if this car was the same hp, and im not talking about liters or V's then they crunch even the best
Thats basicly a Mitsubishi Carisma. I got two of those V40s from '97 (Phase I). They are cheaaaap in parts and very reliable, but the interior and some exterior things are very very poor quality. The Facelift is better in everyway, especially rust. Those V40 are sometimes rusty as hell in the sides
There's unfortunately something wrong with this engine. It obviously lacks some power. Stock one should do 100-200 in 20-21s. Stock one keeps pushing up to 6000-6200 so much more than you pushed it. BTW. Those farts at 4:10 its not misfire. That's how traction control works in this car (power pulling by ignition retarding).
After owning a 2.0T for 8 months I don't know why someone wouldnt love this car. Finding a good T4 is difficult though, I can see their price rising a lot in the next years

in the run when you did 100 - 200 almost all the way in 4th gear, the time was comparable with the run when you started on 3th. But when you started on 3th you didnt pull espacialy the 4th gear to higher rews. I think starting on 3th and pulling it to higher rews could give even better result, dont you?

Forged internals engine (at least B4194T), you could easily get 300 HP out of it.
When its not got 236K kilometers on it, and is audibly misfiring, maybe :D

My Volvo 2.0T reached the same top speed, although it has a mere 163 hp. But with 380.000 on the clock, I won't risk that again.

Thats not the best way to measure 100-200 aint it.. pull it from 80 reving to the red line. Let the turbo jump on boost. Then its realistic.
