Unless I'm just being dense and missed it in the video, there's an additional point scoring situation when you get a new band member, from the rulebook: If you add an artist to your band that corresponds to the city’s species, score one point.
Thank you so much for doing this Dave, Nikki and Lincoln! It was great to watch you have a lot of fun with it. I’m glad it gave you lots of laughs and smiles. Something we need a lot of these days!
42:35 As a musician, my mind immediately went to the TAKE FIVE theme, so I burst out laughing when Lincoln and Dave started singing the theme as well. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Just bought this, liked the theme and it has good reviews plus it can play a decent amount of players which is a plus for me, also easy to teach. This video answered some dumb questions I had, thanks.
This looks totally awesome 😁 Ordered the game about 20 mins into the show - Ty ty for showing a great game and for doing an excellent show - You all rock! 😄 Band name - Orc, Wind & Fire 😁
I have to get this game. Right up my alley, music theme (check), fantasy theme (check), map based movement (check), with colorful cards, board and art (triple check) and is relatively light on mechanics making it an easier teach (big check). Putting this on my fall/winter "need to buy" list.
It seemed like Nikki had a wild race/species action card in her hand at the end - she would've won if she played that (if I saw that correctly). Once again, great video :)
I really want to see the boxes that Dave and Nikki stand on when doing the opening...you know, the only time ever that they're the same height as Lincoln hahahaha
At 58:10 when Dave moved into a city after Nicki snagged it the turn before... it looks like he could have gotten a new band member or action card (city had a symbol, just not sure which one...) Am I reading that correctly?
This is a great question, and one that I tried to look up and/or get conformation before we played (still nothing as of today on BGG, for example). The rules say that AFTER you perform a concert in a city, you then get the additional benefit of the extra "market" action (either of them) printed there. The rules do NOT say that you MUST be able to perform to get this benefit... but they also do not explain the benefit as something that just happens in a city, regardless of performance. And while it would be nice if this were further clarified, I took the simplicity of how it's written in its literal sense. You only get to do extra stuff AFTER you put on a performance. Which feels right, IMO. I wouldn't expect, for example, to be able to go back to a city where I've already been before and be able to take the "market" action there again. So this is, in a way, the same thing.
They are scheduled but if you follow our playlist or check out the playlist you see them. It is OK because if you are a big enough fan to look you deserve early access. Thanks for the note and for watching-Lincoln
@@boardgamegeek Thanks. Love the show. So happy that everyone is back now. This show has had the biggest impact on my board game collection of any I watch. Not only do you guys do a great job presenting and explaining the games but your friendships make me see the full potential of the games. After all isn't that what board gaming is all about. Thanks again for all the awesome years of content.
This is very weird. Trollfest is an actual band, and has been since 2003. Idk if this is in a weird way infringement considering the subject? But I’ve seen weirder copyright situations. Side note, check out the band. Balkan folk metal basically. From Norway. They’re very goofy and fun. But have some rough vocals, so they might not be for everyone. Except their Christmas album. Oh boy.
I am both fan of boardgames and metal , it's nice to see them come together! check the latest song from Trollfest ( the inspiration for this game I guess) th-cam.com/video/OSM52OBPN7o/w-d-xo.html

@@boardgamegeek It actually showed Wonderland War since Monday, but it was only in the playlist on the home screen. Now, that's gone and was replaced by this one today.
I was able to get on a PC and change the settings. I’m not sure why TH-cam put both of those videos as unlisted when they were scheduled for Thursdays. As I said though, if you are enough of a fan to visit the playlist you deserve early access. Thanks for the note and for watching. -Lincoln
I love all the thematic elements included, all except one glaring component that makes zero thematic sense...the groundhog. Seriously...a groundhog? Why didn't they use a magical creature, a faerie, a gnome, a unicorn, or a wandering wizard...that groundhog seems so out of place. It's like the company made a game about groundhog day, and the manufacturer overproduced the number of groundhog meeples, so they stuck the excess into this game, where they have no place being, just because they had so many extras. Haha. Other than that, love it.
Yes and no. You can win with a multicultural messay band, and score the ability bonuses, but also with a small classic band. With a small band you must go for the identity bonuses (gender, specy, classic rock), the dragons, and organize your travel to pass through all your specie cities.
This game seems...terrible? The notion that the person to get the groundhog gets the jump on the next groundhog location seems like a flaw. It looks too long for its simplicity (feels like it's all about drafting the musicians), with action cards that let one player completely hose another (as Nikki did to Dave) by getting the jump on what will be an obvious path for that player and forcing them into one if not more turns of no scoring. Huge variance in the action cards plus luck in the array just make it seem like a random mess. The theme and art are super cool, and I suspect will trick a lot of people into buying this. Some of the scoring categories seem underpowered; no way 4-5 piece band can win this game. The best part of Game Night! is it gives viewers a great sense of how a game plays--and this is one I'd never play again.
Getting the groundhog doesn't get you a jump on the next location, it's actually the opposite, since it's placed again at the end of your next round. As for winning with a 4-5 musicians band, it's possible if you get for the identity bonuses, classic band, gender and species.
@ JJRR. Your conclusion about the groundhog is incorrect. As Bruno said it’s actually the opposite. Download the rulebook at BGG and give it a read. And come see us at one of the major gaming conventions and we’ll play it with you. I think you’ll like it very much. Have yet to hear a negative comment from anyone who has ACTUALLY played the game.

Having just spent an entire GenCon teaching this game for demos myself, I'd like to say that I think Dave did an excellent job on his teach.

Some Rock And Troll - I would guess the hammer symbol would imply the species are Dwarves
daves band is clearly going "move me down to the vampire city, where the bites are hot and the goths are pretty" XD
Was looking forward to watching that one

Just came here to see if someone else caught this.
I could watch these videos all day long 😍
An all vampire ska band could be called "The (We Can't Cross Running) Aquabats".
At approx 46:00 Dave took a band member when he should have taken the 4 market cards?
For those interested, I've made a playlist for the game, here : th-cam.com/video/Tt6_65LDZ60/w-d-xo.html
Can I give this video an "extra thumb" for the Dave Brubeck reference?
You can... but it's a little suspect considering your screen name :)

Alas, they are just plain old boring step-stools. But - especially when the game box itself is big - I need one!
This game slaps harder than Will Smith! Love it!

The theme is funny, but the end game scoring really penalizes a classic Rolling Stones type of band compared to one that resembles Arcade Fire.
