    Troy, not a bad review. I’ve only heard of people complaining that the Z-chassis isn’t as easy to drive compared to the S or even E.
    The Z chassis is good but the ATR kit leaves a lot to be desired. For the price, I’d recommend a YD-2S and build with better electronics. Plus, the S is more forgiving for beginners and that’s according to some of even Yokomo’s own factory drivers.
    As for the things I would change if I had one:
    -Gyro, because I don’t like the “hunting” that cheaper gyros will do even when you turn the gain down.
    -Shocks and springs. Yokomo make some of THE BEST shocks in RWD drift and are heavily supported in the aftermarket. I’d recommend Yokomo blue silicone “X rings” and 10wt oil.
    -Tires because those drift tires are that weird vinyl compound similar to the Tamiya Super Driftech. Either the Yokomo DR-C or RevéD AS-01 as both are widely used on drift tracks all over the world.
    -Servo, because the one in the ATR is rather… slow. Personally, it’s worth getting either the Yokomo SP-302 or the RevéD RS-ST. Either servo would make a HUGE jump in performance and handling and both are programmable.
    -ESC, because at some point I would want to go brushless. The ATR ESC is Yokomo branded but is closer in spec to the HobbyWing 1060, which ironically is only sold with a Tamiya battery connector crimped on. Though it’s not sensored brushless capable, it DOES offer 2S and even 3S support.
    -Battery because well… EVERYONE at the competitions are running LiPo! Nothing against NiMH and yeah they’re heavier but they’re also safer to use. Plus, the “weight shift” builders are using them but to each their own.
    -Radio, because you’ll only go so far with the ATR radio. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not bad but the further you go in the hobby, the more you’ll want a better radio. For the money, the FlySky Noble NB4 is a great choice. Pricey, because it’s a higher end radio but far cheaper than a Futaba 7PXR or the Sanwa equivalent, never mind even KO Propo!
    -Lastly while speaking of brushless, that’s where I’d go long after I do most of the upgrades. The cream of the brushless crop seems to be at 13.5 turn (where most advanced drivers are moving to) but nothing wrong with 10.5, especially when you need the extra kick for turn-in and it’s what I use in my RWD TT-02 build. Don’t judge me.
    Anyway Troy, great video as always. Maybe one day, I’ll make it out to Music City and run door-to-door with you guys!

      @RoadsideRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right.
      Most folks who get one of these vehicles will eventually replace almost all of the components - but starting with a RTR is very appealing for new folks who are unfamiliar with the electronics.

    You're my guy! My friend literally just bought this today, and came over to my garage to have a play with it, we absolutely fell in LOVE with the RC drift car, made a little make shift track with tap points made from thin door shims. Anyway, I'm TOTALLY getting an RC drift car! I'm keen to get this one you have in the video, same as my friends. I'm just wondering are there better options for slightly more or less $? I'd rather not have to build the first car. And what after market things should I get? wheels?

    Damn. This thing makes the MST RTR look like a $2k rig. (In my opinion) That gyro wobble is the worst I've ever seen.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The gyro wobble is bad - but that was also at 100% gyro gain. It is adjustable, but I had issues with that...video coming.
      Still, on either the MST or Yokomo RTR, the gyro will be on of the first upgrades you do.
      Jury is still out on this vs the MST on which is better.

    Hi Troy thanks for the video. I'm looking to get into RC drifting. If you had a choice between the YD-2 RTR or the MST RMX 2.0 RTR?

    • @jackstephens2519
      @jackstephens2519 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I own the RMX 2.0 and I highly recommend it. A couple of cheap Zeee batteries from Amazon and you have a very good car for just a few dollars more than the Yokomo. And the MST body is leaps and bounds above the Yokomo. It comes with mirrors and light buckets and tinted windows and most importantly it isn’t drilled for body posts but they’re marked in case you want to run them

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is a VERY good question.
      I own both. Both have some pros and cons.
      I am tempted to lean towards this Yokomo for long-term performance potential...but not 100% sure yet.
      One thing is clear, this gets you started for cheaper!

      Depends where you want to go in the hobby, mate. The MST is great if you’re new and you want a very capable chassis that you can compete with without being too serious. The downside is that MST part support is few and far between.
      On the other hand, the Yokomo is better if you want an ATR (assembled to run) but with more support in the event you want to get super serious about competing. The downside is that the Z-chassis can be frustrating to use if you’re new to RWD drift, compared to the YD-2E or S chassis which is more forgiving to newbies.
      In the end, it’s YOUR choice. I mean, I have a converted TT-02 and I think it’s good enough though tuning is limited compared to others.
      However, if you’re a little capable, building a kit is much more budget friendly and you’ll get a much better car in the end.

    Hi Troy, for me as a beginner to start drifting, should I buy and start building it from kit and put good quality electronics or just buy an RTR so that i can feel it first if its something for me? I dont have much knowledge so far about rc drift car 😅

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi John!
      Thanks for the question.
      The answer depends on the support system you have. Is there a local hobby store that has knowledge about drift cars? Is there a local track with helpful folks who can help you troubleshoot? Do you already have some RC experience (non-drift)?
      If the answers are yes, then I would start with a kit and better electronics.

      Here is a comparison of 10.5T vs 13.5T: th-cam.com/video/VayXMGIyndM/w-d-xo.html

      There are three solutions:
      1) Reverse the throttle signal on the controller
      2) Re-calibrate the throttle channel to the ESC
      3) Swap the two motor wires.
      Try them! They should help!

    sad that this kit should of been the best RTR on the market hands down if it had good electronics, if yokomo used their own baseline electronics such as SP02 V2 servo, a yg-302 gyro and sp4 esc/motor combo and 3ch tx/reciever then absolutely would of been fantastic and worth every cent. rather then buying a kit and having to fix it by replacing the garbage electronics that ruin it.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree - I had much higher hopes in the electronics area.
      After an alignment and swapping most of the electronics (still running brushed), it works much better now.

    thats sad to see.. Yokomo used to be of the highest standards, now looks like they just jumped on the money grab and tossed that P.O.S. out to the market to grab money from the new to rc drift crowed... i just checked the price.. at that price point you would expect better.

    • @RoadsideRC

    I would still take the MST over this pile of crap no brushless motor shit Gyro . The body complete and utter trash compared to the one that you get with the MST. Yokomo has definitely been sliding down the hill.

    • @RoadsideRC
      @RoadsideRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      After I get more seat time, I will certainly do a comparison.

    • @taimaishu-nao1922
      @taimaishu-nao1922 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bro, comparing both out of the box, yeah the MST is far better value for the money.
      However… the Yokomo is the choice of professionals and while the ATR is filled with really basic stuff, that’s all it was meant to do: be able to get you started in the world of RWD drifting. It wasn’t meant to be “the best”. If you wanted “the best” Yokomo chassis, you should’ve gotten in line for the YD-2ZX release because THAT is the YD-2 chassis to have (as it has literally EVERY hop-up and option part available!) though no electronics or battery.
      As for the MST, yes it still will be the most popular choice for the guy starting out if they choose to go with an RTR/ATR instead of a kit. However, the downside is that parts support is limited for anything MST versus what you can get for the YD-2.
      Just my two cents, bro.

    • @danielmoriarty751
      @danielmoriarty751 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@taimaishu-nao1922 lmao!!!! First of all I have a YD2 ZX. It does not come with every hop up part available. I spent another 400 finishing that chassis. I also have a SX3, MST2.5 and a onisiki Hana. Waiting on my reved which should be here this week. In no way shape or form is Yokomo the best. Or I wouldn’t be doing the conversion on my SX111 to try to keep it competitive. 10 years ago I would’ve agreed nowadays not even close. The fact that they would release this ready to run turd the way that it is. Well in my opinion proves Yokomo is trying to survive off of their name. There is no way I would recommend this pile of shit for anybody starting off drifting. if it said MST instead of Yokomo I guarantee you would be saying the same thing. Just because it says Yokomo don’t make it good
