typical american documentary...the story is about a Pole but there must be an american accent such as american flag...how embarrassing...and the story isnt wonderful...this is the story about pain, humiliation, tears and death...theres nothing romantic about it. Why do americans always want to show us the facts in a different way. For us its a part of our national identity not some story

She says dad was in the 'resistance'. This implies some sort of insurgent guerilla activity. But in his photo he's clearly wearing British uniform.
Regular Polish Army would not have 'Poland' on their uniform. The British forces 1939-40 composed British plus Imperial units identified with the name of their country - Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Rhodesia, South Africa. And also exiled Poles, Czechs, French, Belgians, Dutch etc. But all wearing essentially the same uniform. Hence the name of their country on the shoulder.
So he must have been in a Polish unit composed of exiles operating with the British until captured. ie a formal military operation. Not 'resistance' except in a general sense. After all, he was sent to a regular PoW camp, not treated as an insurgent.
(100s of thousands of these Poles plus their families settled in Britain after the war)

He was in Resistance as a member of Home Army. When Warsaw Uprising capitulated in October 44 he was taken POW in German Stalag. As story goes on he run away with other Poles just before American came. Most POW joined in to Polish forces in the West. There were two possibilities: Anders Army in Italy or Maczek Brigade in Germany, which ended war in Wilhelmhaven and served as part of occupation British forces. This picture is probably from that times. Some Poles had a little hope [which vanished quickly] that the Polish Army will be part of liberating forces for Free Poland in conflict between Soviet Union and Western Allies. You should remember that The Cold War started and USA showed that had capability with atomic bomb after Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Polish Army in the West not only collected Polish POW who were in thousands but also Polish conscripted to German Army like Silesians, Pomeranians
