Dehydration can be a cause of prodromal labor. Make sure to stay very hydrated especially at the end of pregnancy.

Omg, this has been happening to me for a full week now. Contractions start, then abruptly stop. I feel like I will never have this baby. I went to the hospital after losing my mucus plug last week and having contractions and it was false and now it has been a week of this. Mentally, it is making me anxious, depressed, and frustrated.

Currently about 37weeks pregnant with my 3rd baby and I’m loving your content! I had about 4 days of prodromal labor with my 2nd and I swear last night as I was laying down for bed I started to have the start of super early labor. I am on day 6 of prodromal....38 weeks. It is getting more painful and intense each day. The worst part is the dismissal from medical professionals. They act like I'm not in pain and say I will have a lot of trouble with the pain of "real" labor. Probably the worst thing you could say to a woman experiencing hours of non stop contractions daily and nightly. I never get a break in between contractions. It's like one long four hour contraction.

I had my baby on Saturday night and, while I had some relief from prodromal labor for about a week before labor, my labor went very fast! I got an epidural at 8 cm and it slowed it down to a reasonable pace. I dilated from 5 to 8 cm in an hour... it was moving fast (this is my first labor). He was born after only 10 pushes. I do think the pre-labor contractions made 'real labor' faster. My recommendation is to trust your body. If it feels different, get ready! Could go really fast.

I had this with my first baby and I had never heard of the term in all the videos I watched to prepare for labor. I had diarrhea and cramps then real contractions that lasted 1 min and came every 5 min and I let that go like 2 hours and went to the hospital at about 2 1/2 cm dilated (I was already at that dilation at my last doc visit). I knew for sure I would progress but nothing changed after hours so they said it was probably best to labor more at home so I could at least rest and eat. This happened over and over, I could sleep a little but then contractions would pick back up. I went to the hospital twice and got sent home twice in 3 days. My doula then had me doing all kinds of walking down the street and up and down stairs and squats to progress. It was so tiring! The last day I finally went to the hospital because I thought it was time and they did an ultrasound because they observed that my fluid might be leaking. They said the baby had to be delivered for the safety of the baby so they let me stay, still at like 2 1/2 cm. I refused pitocin because I was trying to labor unmedicated. I agreed to get my water broken and that quickly picked up the contractions and I progressed to 4 cm shortly after. Then labor picked up overnight and I finally delivered in the morning. Total of 3 1/2 days in labor!

I’ve been going through this for 5 weeks now. Started after my baby dropped which was around 32 weeks. I’m 36 weeks now and it’s gotten so much worse. Doctor has me on heavy bedrest. I stay extremely hydrated and that really doesn’t do much to help. My contractions go from 3 min apart to 10 minutes apart lasting hours sometimes all day and then just stop out of no where. Sometimes they increase in pain sometimes stay consistent in pain. Plus I’m always crampy. Like non stop period cramps in my back and lower abdomen. Tried taking a bath yesterday to sooth them and it actually made it worse. Plus I’m chasing my toddler around. It’s so discouraging and I’m physically and mentally exhausted.

I most definitely experienced prodromal labor a few nights ago (37 weeks tomorrow). Is it normal to feel nauseated, feel gassy, have back pain, have heartburn, have the chills, and/or have an increase in bowel movements during prodromal labor? It all probably lasted me about 4 hrs. Squatting in the shower, focusing on my breath, and making deep sounds helped me relax some. I'm just curious if I should expect that again or if perhaps I just ate something funny at the same time I had prodromal labor.

33 weeks rn my contractions seem to be super long and not much time in between. They’re really painful but they just stop after an hour or 2. 4th pregnancy so I’m familiar with the pain of labor and natural child birth and let me tell you, this hurts. I’ve almost went to the hospital over this but of course during COVID I don’t really want to make an unnecessary visit to the ER. Last night was my second night of experiencing this but I had 4 days between the first experience that lasted 2 hours and the second time which lasted about and hour and a half. The second time was much more painful than the first. I’m just worried that because of this I might not know when I really need to go to the hospital. My last pregnancy was preterm at 36 weeks but after gaining knowledge of prodromal labor I’m think maybe I had that with my last pregnancy but they ended up inducing my labor.

With the last cervix strip I was already almost 4cm dialated and 39 weeks, lost my muccus plug twice after each strip also. Got mild contractions in the evening at home. Pretty close together. Id fall asleep and theyd be gone. Same the night after XD eventually still had to be induced at 40+1 cause baby was measuring smaller and dropping on the curve.

Yes, Rae Anna. This is such a difficult situation. I am so sorry that you are going through this. Have you seen any luck with epsom salt baths? Hydrating with baths could help. It is so exhausting and it would be great to find something to ease the activity.

@@birthtoolbox I have been doing epsom salt baths, magnesium sprays, a glass of Pedialyte a day, as well as my 8 glasses of water a day. Some nights they end after a few hours other nights they are just stubborn and I am up most of the night. It's so sporadic.
I really just want to make it to term with this one but at this point I don't know how I will have the energy left to actually labor and push 😔

@@raeanna451 WOW, it sounds like you are doing all the right things. I hope that you will have a slow down to the contractions soon! Sending you a hug.

@@birthtoolbox thanks, I am just hoping this means maybe I will have a shorter active labor, but I know that not a guarantee
