he’s literally an alcoholic but he beat tiger woods tf type of contradiction is that 😂 dudes a legend and definitely what the golf scene needed and still needs golf needs some type of damn excitement man not everyone is tiger
Over the years I've probably followed JD around 4-5 rounds at various tournaments and by far he is the most entertaining golfer you can watch. Don't blink, he doesn't think much over the ball!
@David Mc Ask any golfer out on the course today Who's the first golfer that comes to mind when they hear PGA and dominance. 9 out of 10. Tiger Woods. Jack was surely a sensational player, but you can't deny Tiger the #1 spot. Tiger dominated in a time where the skillgap werent that big. In Jacks generation you had the greats and the peasents. Not surprising he won so many major when there honestly only were 3-4 rivals.
David Mc Actually. Why don’t you try to Google Top 10 Greatest Golfers of all time. Here you’ll actually realize that Tiger is topping every single list.
His talent is so underrated. Dude barely trains/conditions and goes on to win majors while definitely drinking during those days. He's the real everyday guy too. Also, he's allowed to be himself. The top 10 golfers today wouldn't have the guts to say anything John gets away with. haha
I’m so happy to run into this! Just yesterday I was thinking about John Daly and wondering what happened to him....he’s still amazing and highly entertaining !
John Daly was a real pleasure to watch; very smooth, coordinated and confident. It is interesting because I never look at sports super stars in the light of personal lives and failures. I only perceive the sport at top level; a beautiful thing.
I could listen to JD All day long!!!...... I actually saw him at the Buick Challenge at Callaway Gardens back in 1997........ Man he could smash a golf ball!!!
Went to Phoenix Open 2002.....not a rabid golf fan. John Daly was followed around like the Beatles-Elvis wrapped into one. 'Grip it and rip it' to be sure. The sound when he hits a drive was just different than other players. Crowd roared and hooted every drive he hit. Didn't matter if it was good or bad. They were loving him.
Being from Memphis I've run into JD a few times. Big Jekill and Hyde. My wife and I rode an elevator at one of the Tunica casinos once with him and his entourage and you'd never met a bigger, foul mouthed prick. A month later he was doing something for St. Jude and taking pictures and signing autographs for hours, a complete joy around everyone. Prayers and best wishes with his new struggles with cancer. Truly one of a kind.
Honestly though, do you blame him? He has supported many charities but a night out in a casino nobody expects someone to talk and act as if they are in a church?
@@littlebucks912 I was taught to give some respect to strangers. Call me old fashioned but he could have waited 30 seconds to release that foul mouthed tirade after we got out of the elevator.
I like JD...he’s probably the real, most interesting guy in golf. And I appreciate his genuineness and his just be who you are kind of attitude. But it’s still obvious he doesn’t completely have his life under control, and unfortunately everything could suddenly go south on him in a heartbeat. He’s too old to still be living on the edge. Sad.
JD was in Australia one year and we were playing the National Golf course near Melbourne not with him i think he was there for a casual round with friends , he took out his putter on the 10th tee i think it was as that tee as it was a long time ago and hit the ball over 200mt down the fairway and i have always been a fan of his ever since and wish you the best of luck Big John . Aussie Dave
I've said it once and I'll say it again I had the pleasure of watching John Daly play, and his swing was one of the greatest I've ever seen. If he had the mental toughness like tiger and Jack he would have, in my opinion, would have won 40 to 50 tournaments and 6 + majors.
I was living in Munich and went to the BMW (European) tour event one day, where Daly always seemed to be entered. Stood near the fairway bunker on the par 5 18th hole for a while; it was about 290 to carry so everyone (in the four or five groups I watched) either laid up with thier tee shot, or hit to the narrow opening on the right to take a few clubs off their next shot. I saw from my program that Daly was coming up in a few holes, so I moved to the par 3 17th green and waited for his group to come thorough. I was to the left of the green and the pin was just a few paces on, on the left also. Daly hits his tee shot just barely too far left, and the ball ends up pin high in a hollow about six feet off the fringe, leaving an impossible chip. However, he had terrific hands and deftly hits it barely on the green, but it rolls four feet past and he misses the putt for par. I follow his group to the next hole (par 5 18th) and hits his drive over the bunker. He then hits a two-iron to three feet and holes the putt for eagle. It starts raining and I go home, happy, because I've seen 80% of what Daly has to offer in two holes.
@@bbwsmashchamp235 Those were the days, my dad who is a pro of 40 years says how Callaway desimated the second hand clubs industry and golf sales for club pros. Disgusting the profit they make on clubs, only to release new and different versions all the time which undermined the original sale by the pro. Bring back the old days of golf

Apart from TW and Bubba (Who gave his Sunday round visor to my son at The Canadian Open), John Daly is my fav....and he would be a great guy to get drunk with...all the stories, my lord !!!
Probably the first really long hitter in the sport. I can remember his drives generating more press than other golfer's overall game. Sad that he just never took his career or himself that serious because with his natural ability, I have no doubt he would have won many more tournaments and majors.
wonderful to hear the story from JD and he stil remember when TW beet him when tiger whas 13 years old ,But JD have stil fun and take the life day to day.i lovet
There are three people that I can think of off the top of my head that are absolutely Legends and the stories about them would make you think that they are superheroes. One of them is Bo Jackson, the other one is Larry Allen and then finally John Daly LOL
No, Fuzzy Zoeller was the Dean Martin of golf and hung with Daly early in his career. I believe JD, FZ, Couples and DL3 played the greatest 18 holes of golf. JD and FZ were always drinking and enjoying life.
I started playing around 1994, almost forget how good Nick Price was. Don’t know what happened after 1996 or so, but he fell off the map quick. But that run he went on was amazing
If he prioritized golf above everything.. He had the potential and skill to be one of the greatest golfers of all time! But dude loved life and loved partying. And who can fault him for having fun. You only live once as the cliche goes.. what a living example of that.. I’m sure he has no regrets!
JD is a great guy. Watched make a kids dream come true by letting him walk the 2nd hole at The RBC Heritage. Kids mom was crying because the kids was such a huge fan of JD.
JD is so cool, and most important, NOT FAKE!!! I would love to play 19 holes with him, don't know if the first 18 or the 19'th would be the most fun. I would have to play from the ladies' tees to make the drives even, lol...
