I think it’s important for folks to realize there are a great many people all over the world that are world class musicians. They just don’t feel compelled to do it for a living...this reminds me of some of those folk. The music is pure, free from artificial ingredients.
Boy that's a national, archive right there. A southern treasure. To be sure,, I grew up singing and playing old gospel tunes. And admiring doc's. Way of playing. The guitar ,,
I miss my daddy, he was the talented one in our extended family. I regret I took his gift for granted. Now he has left this earth, I realize what a blessing he was. Many an evening he filled our home with music very similar to this here.
Seems to me these are probably some of the most down to earth people you would ever meet....the salt of the earth variety...miss you doc and your musical legacy.
What a treat this is❤ Thank you for posting I am grateful to have seen Doc play at a community college up here in the Catskills of NY Must of been 15 years ago I’ve always loved his spirit his voice and his pickin I knew it was something super natural that I was watching.
This is from a documentary my dad, Joe Murphy, and his business partner Kevin Balling, shot. It's called Doc & Merle. You can hear my dad's voice in the background.Merle died in the final months of filming.
Yes, Melanie -- this is undated (and mostly unused) raw footage from your Dad's documentary which he made available through Appalachian State University. Thanks!
thanks for posting, I have a cd of Doc and family with Rosa Lee and Doc singing some songs together on it. I really appreciate seeing them intros video.
@Glencoe, with Doc being blind most his life, it is a beautiful thought that the first thing he saw after death was his LORD Jesus Christ, what a glorious thing for ol Doc! Looking forward to hearing Doc leading worship in the great by and by!
Thankfully, I'm not seeing a lot of heat here about the ages of the two when they got "interested". I understand that statutory stuff can get ugly, but if two people have good intentions, and the families approve, I don't believe anyone, including government, has the right to get in the way of a good thing.

Doc made it very wealthy of his music. So did his song Merle
Reminds me of my childhood growing up a tobacco farm.
Every weekend there was always music in the barn.
I miss those days.
