I carry the Fenix LD12 and use Amazon basics rechargeable AA batteries. Only 120 lumens on highest setting but last forever on the 27 lumen setting. This has been more than adequate for night hiking.

I like the Warrior pro from O'light and O'light sell a large selection of other tactical lights.

I've been carrying an "Olight' for nearly ten years and I can say enough about it.

Right on! Thanks for sharing that, and looking at Eric's comment of using one for 10 years, that's quite the statement!

Nice overview. I carry the Emisar D4V2 with SST20 LEDs in 5000 kelvin color which has a better visibility in fog I find. You can buy them with either a normal or raised switch ring which makes the power button easy to find with gloves on which I find amazing. It's also running the Andruil firmware which has become really popular since its so customizable. I like an old school simple 3 mode that is not blinding bright and has excellent battery life in high mode. With Andruil you can set the light to stepped modes, the number of modes (up to 7) and then set the lumen output for low and high mode. So for me I set it to 3 mode plus turbo and set the lumens to approx 5 lumen low, 40 medium, 200 high. When I'm camping or backpacking it will run 6 hours on 200 lumen without steping down and so really great for full weekends of use on 1 battery charge. You can't change turbo so it's a whopping 4200 lumens which is quite the jump but good if really needed for a short burst of light. I also carry a Lumintop Tool 2.0AA as a backup. Sofirn has a few Andruil flashights but the new SC31 Pro looks like a winner for something small and pocketable that I can set with the same outputs I like. www.amazon.com/SC31Pro-Rechargeable-Flashlight-Powerful-Included/dp/B08FR9QJP4

I should mention that you need 4 times the lumens to see twice as bright. So anything above 500 lumens you really loose a lot of battery capacity to heat and resistance for a minimal gain. 2000 lumens is twice as bright as 500 lumens but for only minutes of runtime and extreme heat which is bad for the longevitry of the electronics!

Well, here you go Stokerman, you started it, not me ..lol
The only thing those lights have going for them is "Lumins and removable battery", outside of that, like you said charging port and on/off button being on the barrel below the head, a big negative in my book,( tail cap switch is best) A good thing is you can remove the lithium ion batteries to put on a secondary charger, I wouldn't trust the onboard charging circuit to last as long as the physical light itself so having a battery charging station at home with a spare would be smart thinking.
My go to everyday is an Olight', it's on my nightstand, and it goes to work with me. Iam a Railroader Conductor/ Engineer by profession, my Olight' has taken some serious abuse on the Mainline and trust it 💯% over the past decade, if it were to get crunched by a Locomotive no tears will be she'd for the light costs less than a 100 bucks.
    Great video Stokerman
    Thanks for reading!

As always a lot of great stuff right there Eric! I don’t like over complicated gear - because if it can fail, it will fail.
      Stay Stoked!

I have 2 Mag Light XL 50 LED lights . The XL 50 has 3 light settings . high, low and strobe. I use 3 AAA rechargeable batteries and carry 3 more rechargeable If I go through all 6 batteries in one night I can scrounge around for Alkaline AAA batteries. I am a Security Guard and work in Nights and in Shadow areas where I use my light a lot and never gone through all 6 batteries in one shift. In fact I can go more then 2 shifts on one set. I automatically recharge them every 3 days or more depending on number of night shifts I pull in a week. The Lumens might not be that high but it gets the Job done. I have had Brighter more expensive lights but I have had more problems out of them. The more features the more can go wrong . For everyday carry Items of any kind I like the KISS approach. Simple and durable are the first 2 qualities I look for in EDC gear

Thanks for the video. A tactical flashlight and EDC flashlight aren't always the same thing. I learned that a few years ago when I bought a tactical light which didn't work well as an EDC light. It's features were fine tuned for use in combat and law enforcement applications, but it was difficult to carry and had a beam which was too narrow for general use. Stay healthy.

I carry the J5 Tactical V1 Pro every night for work. Great little light , doesnt weigh much , at 500 lumens a wish it were a more . Just bought a few Wowtac BSS V4 that I am gonna start carrying , at 1700 lumens it should be more than enough.

As usual, great video! Good looking lights. I myself have the ATACTICAL1 and the WOWTACA1S flashlights. Both are very similar in construction and power and they were about $29 each. I've tried them both out camping and both are great. BTW I've been meaning to ask you, I'm a watch fanatic and was wondering what type watch it is that you have? Looks pretty cool. Again thanks for the great videos!

My watch is a Garmin Fenix 3. Wife picked it up for me, I still don’t know how to use it right. Lol.

The magnetic charging port doesn’t pull out to reveal a micro usb charging port like on some of their other flashlights?
