I sadly have to agree. With the Tesla you just go to a Supercharger, and it works. With another car... i often get Issues.. or i take a Ionity charger... (Company that provides chargers in Europe. They are owned/operated by BMW, mercedes, VAG, Hyundai, and Ford is hanging in there as well. Which also means, that you get a pretty much 50% discount for two years on charging if you buy a specific EV model of them) which charge more then double from everyone else. And not even those work all the time.

In France we ve got many small EVs and future productions :
Renault Zoé is mostly driven by administration and local compagnies for 5 years now.
We could also buy the sweet Peugeot e-208/Opel e-Corsa and the new Citroën C4 (136hp). The future e308 (golf segment) is also coming.
Renault is doing things on Nissan electric base and a future sporty Alpine E SUV is coming next 2023.

Many manufacturers offer Tesla charging adapters. You can use Teslas network with one on a non Tesla vehicle.
Kia is a subsidiary of the Hyundai motor group. Their 3rd brand, Genesis, will offer the GV60 electric SUV. HMG has 10 planned electric vehicles in the near future.

I must say Kia EV6 GT is my favorite, fast charing, V2L (Vehicle to Load) meaning using your car as battery for other eletronics can power average house for 24hrs with A/C and TV on, pretty impressive, multi charging adapter so you dont need multiple charging adapters to carry, LG Chem built / SK Chem built batteries, very spacious, long wheel base, to name few. it will just be the matter of having charging network for all these new vehicles. always appreciate your great contents, congrats on 100K

No current rebates for Tesla, the federal grants are all used up and the Massachusetts rebate is ONLY for cars under $50,000.

When you consider the initial buying cost it makes sense. How ever you don't realise that you are loosing $5000 a year for petrol, spare parts and service by owning one of these ICE vehicles. On the other hand if you own a Tesla, the savings you make each year will pay for the vehicle by itself and when you sell, the depreciation is very little. Technically you dont loose any money.

    • @HeWhoIsWhoHeIs

@@henrythe8912 I doubt that Ruby's 2005 Corolla would still be losing $500, year on year out.
The thing is, Ruby's happy with the 2005 Corolla & would know that trading it in, whether today or 5 years away it's not going to make much difference.
Meanwhile, the 2005 Corolla's getting the job done & petrol's cheap.
Also, don't assume that everyone can afford a new Tesla.

Never been a Hyundai or KIA fan but they're designs are spot on - the IONIQ is one of the best looking EV in the video and with 800V charging capacity and quick performance makes it very compelling. It feels like the car market is being turned upside down and we can expect some bumps along the way. Let's hope it makes a real difference for the better in air quality and in the way we consume energy. I am skeptical of the Rivian's plans to build out their own charging network and it feels like we have been hearing about them for so long with no actual product that I wonder if they'll ever get anything off the ground. I really like the Rivian R1S SUV. I am not a fan of giving Silicon Valley any more power or influence than they already have and I feel like EV's will be a step in the wrong direction in that regard. The BMW is by far the ugliest EV in the video and it really wouldn't hurt my feelings if they just went away altogether. Mazda is 7 years behind. Cadillac is going back to its roots and taking huge risks that will likely pay off with unmatched bling. I seriously can't believe Subaru is so far behind as their customer base seems like the perfect market for EV's. The Hummer is just nuts and very expensive, it's like the off road version of the Escalade in an EV. In this video's broader context, the Cybertruck just looks crazy to me and as good as it will likely be it makes such a strong statement it will only be for those willing to draw that line in the proverbial social and cultural sand. Like a ski resort that doesn't allow snowboarding to appeal to the old school crowd, Dodge may be holding out to be the petrol-head groupie brand with a focus on massive power from gas powered Detroit-style behemoths. The EV Ford F150 will be a huge seller if they can get the range and towing power right and I imagine it will offer a million options.

I have an pre-order for cyber truck as well but think the rivian is very compelling. But after I thought about it it became clear that for the value of ehat the cyber truck offered it was the clear leader. It seems that rivian is doing many of the things tesla has put in place. But any time you go with a new company you will likely invariably get pinched by growing pai s such as available parts, repaire and support issues. For those and range/price cyber truck got my order.

My favorite would have to be the Rivian R1S because it meets what kind of car we would get next. I have always been a Tesla fan so I could see a Y in my future but never an X due to their efficiency and design.
Context: I’ve owned a Nissan Leaf and I now own a Chevy Bolt 2017

The VW ID.4 is similar to Tesla MY in size. CUV class.
The ID.3 is more like TM3 type of car, but smaller (golf size) & with a hatchback trunk.

Thanks Ryan, as for my favorites, I'm looking for a Tesla Model Y in the next year if they incorporate a better suspension system than current. The other maker I look forward to in 3 to 5 years is Subaru because they know how to make cars suited to winter and back road driving with a higher ground clearance than the Model Y. Subaru may find itself well suited to filling the gap in Tesla's lineup with a less city oriented approach. However the future offerings 3 to 5 years out may include a Tesla to fill that gap on their own. To do that Tesla will need higher ground clearance, better suspension, better tires and reduced 0 to 60 performance in favor of higher range as much as 500+ miles. We'll see. Cheers, Sideman

Hands down my favorite is the hummer. Large battery, 20 minute charging, spacious and powerful, endless utility, fast acceleration, decent brand and looks amazing. My only real gripe is the price point. I mean, i get it. Alot of perks and good bang for your buck. But what is the point of establishing product dominance if only a hanful of people can even obtain it. I hope to see more reasonably priced options like this in the future

Thanks Ryan for a great run-down of EVs. My choice is still the Tesla line, preferably the Model 3 for it's range. I live on a well-maintained packed gravel and dirt road system of 6 miles. In this environment, I hope to see some real-world videos. It's not an off-road development but it is also not a chip-sealed system. The Model Y has a little more ground clearance than the Model 3 but is pricier and has less range. If a higher ground clearance can be achieved on a Model 3, that would be my clear choice. That all adds up to my being in a wait-and-see mode although I will be trying a test drive in the M3 sometime soon on roads like my home system.

AC makes close to no difference in range. As a general rule, range gets bigger the hotter it gets. It's really wet roads, cool temperatures, and the heater which consume range.

The TSLA competition tag line has been used since the 2012.
That tag line is like whipping on a dead horse.
The blue cruise option is a $600 OTA option for the Mach E and the f150 gas truck.
The MBUSA EQS will be a 2.5 hrs to be disassemble and then 2.5 hrs to reassemble and not including the bench time for the repairs.
Gotta keep the money scheme flowing.
The compute jargon of EQS is essentially trying to compete against the plaid S on the compute power.
You can’t just throw compute power @ the problem without the software.

My next vehicle will be an ev. The Tesla supercharger network is a point in their favor. I live in the south, so one of the last areas that will probably get massive electric charging investments. There is some, so not like completely void, but it is sparse in areas. Still might end up renting a gas vehicle for some trips based on charger locations if I went non Tesla. We shall see.

    Biggest problems with most competitors:
    1. No easy and vast charching network such as Tesla (at least in Europe where I live)
    2. Still most other car manufactures have not yet mastered the software part - Over the air updates, battery management, infotainment system, reliable navigation to available charging points.
    3. Performance wise almost no other EV offers the speed, acceleration and/or efficiency for the same price
    4. Equipment, most traditional auto makers confuse with packages and extras not included in the base model or even higher settings. Take for example the VW ID3 it looks a lot cheaper than the Model 3, well it is not, in order to just get close to the M3 specs in range, acceleration and other features you have to get a much higher line, the heat pump cost extra etc. after adding all that it’s far more expensive.
I do think though that others have started to make some very interesting cars which are great within small distances, but except some more expensive cars such as the Audi e-tron or the Porsche Tycan most of those cars are not for long range due to the above mentioned lack of charging infrastructure or at least it’s inconvenience. How are you going to convince a ICE car driver that EV’s are a good thing if he has to have a bunch of plastic cards for several different charging providers in his wallet and/or he has to download an app and then it doesn’t work and and and. It has to be convinient. Plug in and go.

Less than 300mile is hard to be very popular, when you factor in cold weather reduce battery life, 300 mile in winter maybe only 250mile in full charge

Having owned a 2018 Nissan Leaf SL for going on 4 years, my wife & I are most interested in the Nissan Ariya for a follow-on vehicle. The Chevrolet was an interesting alternative but is no longer in production. The Bolt variations really don't impress us, so at this point the Ariya is top on our list followed be Tesla Model 3 or maybe Model Y. That said, we expect to keep our current Leaf for a few more years so the playing field may be vastly different when it's time to purchase again. p.s. I liked this vid!

Very comprehensive review. One point (which is not your fault) is that you are directly relating the info from the EV automakers, and unfortunately they have gotten into the bad habit of listing the lowest model's price together with the top model's acceleration and extended range. This is a bait and switch technique where uneducated buyers think that the entry level EV also is capable of fast acceleration and long driving range. Which is a lie. When they are showing the longer range capability, they need to show the matching higher price, and the same goes for any performance/dual-motor models, which cost more. Mazda's MX-30 is supposed to get a small rotary gas generator PHEV model, but the shipping timeframe and capabilities are not yet known. I missed seeing mention of Lucid Motors and Aptera, which are also due later this year. Dodge/Chrysler will probably get an EV infusion from parent company Stellantis' European EV products, but not for another year or two. I think that Tesla's competition will heat up in Europe with the German-built Model Y production starting (hopefully) July-August, and those new models will be getting Tesla's own 4680 batteries, and their cast front and real subframes. The question is whether or not those revised , 4680 battery powered Model Ys will be built and sold in the U.S. later this year, produced in Giga Texas!

I'm sorta in the market for an EV and really looking at getting into one this year or next year. I have a 2013 Kia Optima and not impressed with their current EV's but their EV6 does look impressive to me. It's sister company Hyundai with the Ionic 5 is also on my list. The ID4 is on that list as an option. The one I really want to see up close is the Nissan Ariya. Other than the ID4 it's one of the few out there that look like the everyday car without looking too futuristic or oddly shaped.
You know...0 to 60 is important but not a selling point for me. All of the other things like fit and finish, options, reliability, warranty are a few of the main things that interest me. The biggest items are cost and range. Even though the average person drives less than 40 miles a day it's still nice to have the ability to get into and EV and not have to worry about stopping too many times. Even though that in of itself isn't a deal breaker. The last on though is "price". The question then will the price be enough to lure me in. Each one of the vehicles on my list are coming in $40k to 50K. Then the question at that point is do I go with one of the mainstream companies for that price or invest in a Tesla. Ultimately over the next year I'm going to be weighing that out.
I will say that this is a great time to be looking at these vehicles even if you're still unsure if you want to get one. You're starting to see increased competition and see companies produce better and better vehicles. Holding off may be a good idea for some as you could get a old of a good EV giving you 300+ mile range and not breaking the wallet at the same time.
