Love the channel and everything you do. You really need to stay on the gun and follow through!

Thanks much. I’m still learning how to shoot flintlocks so this is something I am aware that I need to fix

You pull your head off the stock before the gun goes off every time, you will never find out how the rifle is shooting till you cure that flinch.

Interesting! I have used 60 grains of Goex 2f plus a 0.61-cal round ball using tow for wadding, over the powder and over the ball. Using my Pedersoli Trade Gun, I got 3-1/2 inch groups at 50 yards. The tight fit of the ball plus the tow wadding proved to be an excellent combo.
Using a 0.575 patched round ball, 60 grains of Goex 2f, and a 0.020 patch, the groups were much larger. The ball and patch combo were not tight, which resulted in poor groups. I could have used a larger ball, but I did not have any 0.595s or 0.600s, nor did I have any thicker patching. I suppose I could have used double-patching but have not tried it.
I also like tow because it swabs the barrel when loading, so I don’t have to clean between shots...an extra benefit. The only problem with tow is that it can set the woods on fire in dry weather!

I think he's a caplock shooter. He's running from that flash.

Good video. You'll find that a barrel rest will help when working up loads. Also, I never had much luck with bare ball loads. In my .62 cal. flintlock, I use an .018 patch, .600 round ball and 100gr. of 2f. At 25 yds. off of a rest it's about as accurate as a rifle

I was trying them out just to see how well they work. I will most likely try again. I ended up lucking into a.595 mold the other day and I am going to work on developing a load for that size ball. I shot a few shots with those balls at my last woods walk.

your head is coming off the cheek weld immediately you pull the trigger, follow through in same position. try the biggest ball that fits after 3 shots of fouling. reduce charge to between 50 and 80 grains somewheres. get a much larger cardboard put up before any shots. things are bound to get better. a bit of tow under the ball can't but help as well.

Put a dime on the muzzle of your gun by your front sight Bryce the gun off prime the pan and only flash it until the dime does not come off the muzzle the flinches will be gone

you have a flinch, also learn to follow through

It is almost painful to see you whip your head to the left just an instant before the lock ignites. You really need to get comfortable with a flintlock and learn how to follow through

P.S. ...forgot to mention using a simple, notched rear sight which I had installed, plus shooting off the bench

Brother I think your shooting technique is more to blame for your bad targeting😢

You are flinching badly. I see the gun drop down when you pull the trigger.

Yup, you REALLY need to work on follow through.

I hope that you've taken to heart all of the comments about how you jerk your head to the left every time you pull the trigger. Watch the video of yourself. It looks like you're trying to see where the ball is going to hit.

You might want to try working up your load at 25 yds if it is accurate at 25 yds. then is should good at 50 as well

  • @duaneharshaw2080
    @duaneharshaw2080 ปีที่แล้ว

you might want to go down to about 80 gr.110 gr. seems a little too much for a smooth bore to me...

I modeled this after duelist1954’s loads he used in is fusil. Maybe you are right though, it’s worth trying out next time I get out

If I’m shooting a patch round I find a lower charge works better, for bare I find hotter charges work well
