  • Scott made a promise to his father to restore and protect his property in the heart of Minnesota's farming country, southwest Minnesota. An avid hunter and passionate conservationist, Scott has permanently protected his property through a conservation easement. He continues to hunt on his land and even invites others onto his property to enjoy the beautiful restored prairie.
The permanent conservation easement that Scott chose ensures that no matter who owns the land in the future, it will persist as a natural habitat, supporting clean water and air, a home for wildlife, and a beautiful place for people to enjoy.
Is there a place in Minnesota you'd like to see protected forever? The Minnesota Land Trust may be able to help. Find us online at mnland.org/, email mnland@mnland.org, or call 651-647-9590.

The Minnesota Land Trust, based in St. Paul, Minnesota, has been in operation for over 30 years. As one of over 460 accredited land trusts in the United States and Minnesota's largest dedicated land trust, our mission is to protect and restore Minnesota’s most vital natural lands to provide wildlife habitat, clean air and water, outdoor experiences, and scenic beauty for generations to come.
    * More healthy, intact landscapes benefit all Minnesotans. But over 70% of Minnesota lands are privately held and at a higher risk for parcelization, development, and degradation. The Minnesota Land Trust works primarily with private landowners via conservation easements to protect private lands.
    * Over the last 150 years, Minnesota has lost 50% of our wetlands, 40% of our forests, and more than 98% of our prairies due to agriculture and development (Minnesota DNR), leaving fewer natural spaces to sequester and store carbon, filter groundwater, and help maintain clean air and species biodiversity.
    * According to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, 56% of Minnesota's lakes, rivers, and streams do not meet water quality standards. Besides reducing surface pollutants, wetlands, and natural shorelines are critical for filtering water before it enters our waterways.
